Authorities in China are racing to clear up flooded streets and restore power in the aftermath of Typhoon Doksuri. The storm has been blamed for dozens of deaths since making landfall late last month. China has seen record rainfall in recent weeks, which has severely damaged infrastructure.
Extreme weather has also been hitting parts of Europe. At least six people died in the severe storms and flooding that hit Slovenia from Friday. Floodwaters have forced thousands of people to flee their homes. Authorities are putting the material damage at more than 500 million euros.

Speaking from personal experience, when your home and town are overwhelmed by natural disaster, the first instinct is survival. Panic ensues at the same time for most everyone who have no experience or training on how avoid panic, and focus on survival. The real question is, what does it take for people to learn from such disasters, and come together to take real and sensible action to help mitigate, prevent, and/or avoid future disasters?

Yes, this is a staggeringly huge event, way beyond anything in the whole of China's recorded history. Although typhoon Doksuri has now passed, huge areas will remain flooded for a month or more, and there is massive loss of agricultural land and crops - the worst of it sacrificed by the CCP's dam releases in order to reduce flooding in Tier 1 cities (Beijing).

@@spejarn I generally agree that rules and regulations are a good thing. However, it is likely that China does not lack rules. They might lack good rule systems or people to implement the rules. And I don't think rules are necessarily to slow things down. Sometimes people implement rules and protocols to speed things up (people with different interests tend to get into arguments with each other and prevent any action from taking place precisely when there is a lack of clear rules and consensus).

The Bronze Age Collapse, collapse of Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman civilizations, near extinction events, cyclical climate change, man made climate change, Book of Revelation and ancient doomsday genre and so forth might be aggregated as a field of study to make modern systems more robust. The Bronze Age collapse, which occurred around 1200 BCE, was caused by a combination of several factors. While the exact reasons may vary in different regions, some of the major contributing factors include: Invasions and migrations: Various groups, such as the Sea Peoples, invaded and attacked the established civilizations, causing widespread destruction and destabilization. Internal unrest and conflicts: Many civilizations faced internal struggles, including social unrest, economic disparities, and political upheavals, weakening their structures from within. Economic disruptions: The collapse of trade networks and disruptions in resource acquisition led to economic instability, affecting the prosperity of the ancient societies. Climate change and natural disasters: Environmental factors, including droughts, famines, earthquakes, and other natural calamities, played a role in destabilizing societies and making them more vulnerable to external pressures. Collapse of centralized authority: The fall of powerful empires and centralized authorities left regions fragmented and susceptible to external invasions and internal strife. Technological shifts: The advent of iron technology may have provided a competitive advantage to certain groups, leading to the decline of bronze-dependent civilizations. It's important to note that the Bronze Age collapse was not a singular event but rather a complex and interconnected series of events that resulted in the decline and disappearance of several ancient civilizations. The specific combination and significance of these factors varied across different regions, leading to the end of the Bronze Age and shaping the subsequent history of the ancient world. Partly from ChatGPT but maybe PRC China can check 3,000 years of literature to verify or rebut. Again, I'd emailed around April 29, Xi was like Mickey Mouse in Fantasia and if he monkied around with the weather he turned an email into a prophecy...
