do not leave it by them if you need it by the coop then close them in at night then place them around the outside of the coop then remove in the morning before letting them out! easy peasy
Only a minute in. I've got 2 tomato comments. 1, for your green tomatoes come fall look up David Beards tomato relish, it's awesome good stuff. 2, again the green tomatoes you'll grab before the frost. This often works but not always as its environment dependent. Wrap your green maters in non printed paper. I use feed sacks. Then store in a unheated room that wont freeze. So come fall I'll have a paper 50 lb feed sack in the utility room. We have had Our garden maters last into February. Pull out as needed and counter top time they'll ripen. While they may not be as tasty as the summer ripened they beat store bought big time. If you can find an edible avocado, they store very well submerged in water in the fridge.
A trick I do is put the seeds on a paper towel let it dry and fold up the towel and store for next year. Then just tear a little section with a few seeds on it and plant it paper towel and all. Great results every time.
Thanks for the new recipe! I mix 1 cup of baking soda and a box of Jiffy Mix Cornbread mix. Put it in jar lids and put it where the mice leave their droppings. Works every time!
My dad had a genie when I was a kid and it didn't want to stay with the other animals it hung out with him all day in his workshop and that's where it stayed day and night and if anyone or anything messed around that shop it would raise all kinds of hell, best watchdog we ever had😂 also had a donkey that wasn't afraid of anything. Had some stray dogs that was working as a pack and decided they was going to make a meal out of donkey but donkey stomped 2 of them to death and took a huge chunk out of another one's back before they could get out of the pasture. Donkey was king of the hill.
Thoughs adorable chickens look like they are the happiest animals in the world, wild and free to roam with their friends where ever they want!!! It seems like its too much to ask as humans these days though!!! How I wish I didn't take freedom for granted long ago, when I was young!!!
My trick is conbine equal parts jiffy cornbread mix and baking soda, blend and I pour mixture into an empty avocado half. Learned this from a Utube southern gentleman.
I always save my tomato seeds this way since I watched a video Stacy put out a few years back. My husband didn’t think it would work until I got the pot out the next spring and began to water. He is a believer now! 😂Thank you both so much.
@@jmm5106 I use potting soil in about a medium size pot and I stick it on a shelf in my husband’s shed. There’s no windows so it’s dark in there and cool.
@nancygrogan6082 oh ok, when do you use these tomatoes 🍅 for that process? We just finished up our garden for the year and got all my pressure canning done. I want to use some of my leftover tomatoes for the storing but weather is consistently going to be 90 degrees each day. I have a garage I could use but this process seems to work for the colder weather
It’s so fun to see some farm action! I know you’ve made a lot of informative videos about the actual homesteading things and you want us to watch old videos, but it’s fun to see how things are currently going with your animals and farm! I love to see the birds, they’re always changing.
I have to admit, My wife and I don't have a big place, we wish, but after watching you and your wife, we are convinced that both of you are 100% here on earth for the good of humanity. We want to thank you both for being such caring and loving humans. I will be using these ideas outside, and many more. Thanks to both of you. Ron and Rosie
I always soak my tomato seeds in water and let them ferment so the little bubbles come off, and then I rinsed them, all the viable ones go to the bottom, the ones that float are no good, then I place them on a piece of toilet paper, and I can plan that piece of toilet paper
Lol Doug I feel so much better seeing you talking to chickens. We now have 6 girls and they r family I play country music for them and they follow us like dogs. Love ❤️ it
I've been using this tomato seed starting method for several years and it works better than any other! I have so many little plants in the Spring I have to give them away. Easy as ever!
OMG!!! the most gorgeous looking tomatoes I have seen in my life! Oh my God! You got to see the tomatoes that they sell us in our stores. What a blessing you people to be able to have your own garden!!!! ❤❤❤❤ from Pompano Beach, Florida
So 3 generous tablespoons of cornstarch, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of baking soda and mix it up and have sliced tomatoes that you put a portion on each slice. Place the slices around the barn or anywhere you have pest problems. They are non-toxic so they won't bother anyone. To start tomatoes for the next year put slices on top of a pot of dirt and put them in a cool dark place. Bring them out in the Spring and start watering them and the seeds will grow, Thanks for this video Doug!
Thank you Doug for the easy and safe pest control method. We've been battling palm rats in our hay storage and garage. This method will keep my livestock and dogs safe. Really enjoyed seeing all your ladies coming out to play. 😊 I greet all of our critters by name everyday. I love how they greet me back. ❤
I was told it's the baking soda. It foams up in their gut, rats and mice can't vomit. so they blow up inside and it kills them. Never tried it with tomatoes, gonna do that next . Thanks Dougie.
Not only can they not vomit, they can't burp or fart that gas that expands in their stomach out. They pretty much explode inside. If they eat enough of it they will pop. 😂
@@Sarah-psalm127 it doesn't really matter what you mix it with. It can be as simple as corn meal and baking soda. It just has to be an edible substance of some sort.
I've missed you guys. Bad times. I hope Stacy is well and doing business as usual. Wish i was there. Living in a pop up as a last stop to homelessness. Thanks for all the helpful advice. Its truly appreciated
I do the same, only I use Plaster of Paris and Co-Co powder. No measurements, just use plastic tops from sour cream or coffee. Mix the cocoa powder and plaster and they go away never to return. Sometimes they carry off the top to their nests….we used this in the auto plants to keep the rats and mice down in the yards and offices
Here in Louisiana only Cherry Tomatoes produce through the summer and into late fall so I take cuttings from my main plant and make more. I bring cuttings inside for the winter and barely keep them alive near my indoor hydro greens and put them back out in March.
If they can fart, they can survive. Rats can fart, and very often survive baking soda or dry rice tricks. Mice, however, cannot fart, and are thus much easier to kill
AWE your chickens and rooster and other exotic bird, they made my day, make me happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO START ALL YOUR VIDEOS saying good morning to them, i love it!!!!!!!!!!!
A homestead video, what a nice surprise! ❤ missed the animals and garden videos. The other videos are definitely important but homestead life has my heart. God bless y'all.
Y’all are fantastic with homesteading knowledge. Thanks so much for sharing with us pilgrims. You guys are down to good earth. A sharing hint for everyone. If you have a stocked farm pond and want free fish food is cut a 2 foot circle of floating foam board. Buy 4 solar spotlights aiming 45 degrees downwards to the water, 12-3-6-9 pattern. Anchor with eyebolt in center & desired string depth with weight. They automatically turn on at dusk drawing moths & bugs free food for the fish. Y’all have a great day!
Thank you so much for the recipe to get rid of mice and rats and other bugs.🙂 I live in Massachusetts and we have a big mice and rat problem and I have been placing some store-bought rat poison bricks but it is quite expensive and extremely poisonous to my dogs and other animals since the rats carry the brick all over the yard and my dogs seem to consume anything .🤔🐀 This seems to be a better and safer method will try it out . 🙂 Would like to know once you place the sliced tomato on top of the soil will it get moldy and sprout before the next spring comes . 🤔 Thank you and have a wonderful week . 🙂
You don't need maters just add a little water and flour and make a dough ball. That's all I do and then toss them in the attic and crawl space and few days later it's quiet again.
Thank you so much for the tip on how to get rid of mice it’s going to come in real handy. And also thanks for the tip on the tomatoes. Always enjoy you and Stacy helping us with our gardens. God bless you both.❤️ how was your cabin built coming along?
I need a Doug to build me a chicken coop, put a fence & barn up for goats, pigs & some mini cows. I’ve only got 5 acres but I could handle a couple of mini cows. My husband works 3 jobs. He can fix things but he’s not a builder. I also want a roll up green house. I have lupus. OA, RA, & an epidural lipoma so I need everything built to make it as easy as possible. I love y’all’s videos!
Look into the carnivore diet ;) The illnesses you have didn't exist 150 years ago. I'm not pure carnivore myself, but I definitely notice a major difference in my energy levels and general well-being the day after eating a meat-only meal (I only eat once a day)!
yea but we must keep an eye on it there is a lot going on like the plane crash with the docs on it and the yacht that sunk with the tech dudes ... all the things are connecting and showing the place they want us to go if we do not pay attention now it will be too late when we snap out of it ignorance is NOT BLISS =)
Idk about “excavating,” but they sure are necessary. What good is a homestead or off-grid setup if we allow the government to outlaw them due to our inaction or obliviousness?! Staying informed about current events is crucial to keeping up with the evil that is determined to undermine our Christian principles and foundations. Evil never sleeps and it never stops trying to corrupt, we have to stay vigilant. “The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance, which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime, and the punishment of his guilt.” -John Philpot Curran July 10, 1790
