At 3:30, i would've let Tommy do something tasteful on the toms to switch it up and get a build out of it. Not sure if Joel just wanted him to stick to the original arrangement of the snares as he did, or if he gave him some free reign (which he didn't utilize), but i would trust him to enhance the percussion in a way that fits with the track.
i think the Last thing a deadmau5 show needs is 'live' musicians onstage...dude makes all this music from his computer-- no need to use an Actual drumset (for over 6 minutes of The Same Beat)...no need for the lip-syncing either-- that vocal sample is pre-loaded in his sequencer too...then once you realize how unnecessary the Drums are, it becomes clear how unnecessary the Drummer is...it wouldnt matter if it was Tommy Lee or Lars Ulrich or Neil Peart or Buddy Rich; theyd be 'adding' just as little to the show...
there’s a video of this exact performance from the crowd’s pov, she didn’t lip sync live… someone threw the original audio OVER this performance footage you can also tell the drums from the intro are being looped, and cheesy sounding crashes are added in post guess it makes this more or less just a music video?
