My issue with META-HUMOR is that it assumes the audience is in on all the industry news or behind the scenes gossip. It’s a movie for the HERE & NOW, but I’m curious how well it will hold up in 5-10 years. Where movies like The Goonies, ET, TERMINATOR, AIENS have a timeless quality to them, I’m wondering how DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE will play in 10 Years without a friend or relative pausing the movie ever 2minutes to explain the jokes or Easter eggs.
Agreed. I think D&W is a good movie, but it caters too much to the most current state of affairs. It works wonders if you are seeing the movie in 2024 but not so much in 2035.. I'm afraid the humor by then will be stale and not land anymore to new viewers. Thanks god for Reynolds and even more so - Jackman- for carrying this movie as the plot was very weak.
Audience score in any platform is a JOKE literally every show released recently got review bombed bc it didnt fit their *agenda* At least critics are honest and sets expectations
And 81% is a pretty good score too. The previous Deadpool movies scored 85% and 84% respectively so it's somehow still at par with regards to "Deadpool standards."
I put more stock in the opinions of people who watch and study films for a living than casuals, even if I don't always agree with them. All the audience score tells you is whether or not a film is entertaining, says next to nothing about its artistic merit and deeper quality, so many bad films have great audience scores, not to mention all the review bombing that goes on now.
I was a huge fan of the original Twister 1996. I grew up watching it with my family, which I can’t say with everything else. I have a vivid family memory of that movie, so that’s why my whole family went to go see Twisters together. Powell, Edgar Jones, and Ramos were a plus-huge fan of all of them.
Glen powell didn't leak it! Saw it months back on tiktok not by one but many passengers who were literally passing by the blocked shoot location at the airport & recording it! Enjoyed Twisters regardless! Daisy is one of the few smart new actresses. Hope she gets good projects! Saw her first with Sebastian Stan in Fresh & became a fan
Seems like the problem is that Marvel keeps repeating the same movie with the same plot. Maybe the first time you get a 99%, but by the 7th repackage of the same plot people get bored.
@@NebulasLife I wasn't referencing Deadpool 3, haven't seen that either. Was referencing Grace going over the list of RT scores for MCU. Shulda put a timestamp
They all play out the same starts with hero being cheesy cheesy hero meets bad guy loses then hero gets a motivational speech from said person who is close to them gets a power up then fights villian again and then wins its how all the movies play out
This is the problem for every franchise; the audience expects more of the same, so you can't deviate too much, and you need to keep developing what already is, while introducing fresh ideas so it doesn't feel stale. Same thing happens with tv shows that run for years. They mostly stagnate and the core audience is generally OK with that for a while. I'm not advocating for boring movies - I'd rather see more unique stories. When it comes to comic books, they do tend have a lot of interconnected material to explore at least, unlike say, the Terminator franchise or Ghostbusters.
I kinda like that there wasn’t a kiss, why does there need to be a kiss? She just met that dude, why is she kissing him? They had a shared experience, and she asked him to chase her and follow her, doesn’t mean that she needs to be easy. And I’m also glad that men don’t need to be shirtless. I enjoyed the wet shirt but we don’t need to subject actors to dumb gimmicks. The story can stand on itself. Love Jeff and laugh every time he comes on with his open shirt in Jurassic park.
I'd also like to add that Glen Powell got famous mostly from Anyone But You which is a romcom and Daisy Edgar Jones got famous from Normal People which was a romance drama so their audience primarily consists of those fans, not blockbuster or tornado fans so I think casting them together might've given people the wrong idea as well.
Thank you for sharing that memory of being in class and sharing your opinion which led to an open debate. I have a very similar experience. I've always been earnest and confident in sharing my opinions. I wish more people were open and used to sharing their thoughts without getting so emotional. It definitely makes me appreciate your hot takes even thought I might not always agree. Love youGrace!
Grace, I'm surprised studios don't upload entire movie as private video on RU-vid and then do copyright strikes that way. Seems efficient to do my idea. 👍
I think the movie lacks almost everything that was great about the first movie. Sure... the movie is rich with 4 wall breaks, inside jokes, lots of references, and cameos are funny and very deadpool accurate. But it's poor when it comes to a meaningful arc and a story with real stakes... Also, most of the characters make choices that makes no sense at all... :/ The movie can be very enjoyable, but it's also very forgettable and I see a lot of excitement but from very few people, how anyone can compare this experience to Endgame, or even nowhere homes is beyond me... those movies had the feels for real. And I'm saying that as someone who's been very excited for this movie and saw it on day one
I did notice ONE hint in your Deadpool & Wolverine review. That cover of a certain Wolverine comic you put up had his other costume. But I'm sure not many noticed. 😉
Deadpool 3 is the best Deadpool movie, but i still think No Way Home tops it. However, i think the issue will be is that not everyone has seen Loki and will be clueless as to what was happening in the screen.
For me the biggest issue was that I'M TIRED OF SUPERHERO MOVIE PLOTLINES. They've just been beat to death. D&W was aiiiight, but alot of jokes missed and I'm not sure their focus on cameos from the FoxVerse was wise.
"it doesn't have animators working on it" I don't know if that was a spur of the moment comment. I don't want to think you're that ignorant but it is disrespectful to all the animators who worked on The Lion King
To say that no animators worked on The Lion King is ridiculous. Obviously animators worked on it. It’s contestable, but Lion King being #1 animated is a valid argument from fans.
Great colors today, Grace. Fun tip, if you set your watch history to off on RU-vid, the front page is blank and you won’t see random vids. It’s nice. Really looking forward to Movie Math this weekend.
Oh that’s so nice to safeguard from Deadpool spoilers! The algorithm wants me to see them and it sucks😂 But I also can’t get mad because it’s just doing its job
Just came home from seeing it with my adult daughter and while I didn’t get all the comic book references, I’m a fan of the other 2 Deadpool films and some of the films, especially Logan. Also, as a fan of Loki, I enjoyed the TVA references. My daughter enjoys the X-Men films but didn’t watch Loki. We both loved DvW and had a great time watching it and sharing the references over lunch. We also really enjoyed the industry inside jokes. Still, I wont go to see it a second time with my husband because he wont get more than the Loki/TVA stuff and would be confused. In the past I have been in the habit of going and seeing blockbuster films first day of release (to avoid spoilers) and if I think hubby would enjoy it, go again with him on the weekend. Recent examples are both the Dunes and Furiosa, as well as, further back, all the SW sequels. So while I enjoyed DvW I’m not rushing back to see it in the cinema. Instead, I will probably wait until it is in Disney+ then do a binge watch of some of the films and TV series it references.
Got my tickets! Can’t wait. Gonna limit my RU-vid and news to just what I get in notifications until Saturday is done. I have my audiobooks to hold me over.
Also, in the past critics gave Disney WAY too high scores - bc of their media access and bc Disney was the big winner company, so everybody wanted to side with the winner IMO. So unfortunately the comparison with those scores from that era is more muddled
I think the shift to 'global box office' is related to release date. In the 90s there was often a delay between US and rest of the world release. I guess with piracy and the internet it became an incentive for studios to get a simultaneous release.
I think I learned not to trust early social media reactions after BvS. Early reactions were largely very positive, certainly nowhere near a negative level that would've made me think it would have the RT score it ended up with. After that, I noticed that the early reactions lean positive for most movies so I stopped paying attention to them cause they seem to have little bearing on where the RT score will land.
With all due respect the only thing im emotionally invested in is the Olympics. Im watching documentaries on the athletes journey to the Olympics. i've be watching exhibition matches in preparation for the games. in my opinion its going to be a low financial year for blockbusters. I think the reason you might be having so many last ticket sales & a low box-office profits for Deadpool is because of this major global event.
Can't see movie until Sunday matinee. I'm hoping but doubting the surprises won't be spoiled by people's thumbnails in their videos. And some people post clips with the spoiler right in the title. 😢
The Marvels is a nothing of a movie, I can’t say it’s super bad or good either. I honestly felt nothing and it was the first time for me that a Marvel movie felt like a product rather than a movie.
I've just got back from watching Deadpool and Wolverine and it is a really fun and bloody film 😃😃😃Hugh Jackman really made the film for me. The cameos were the right ones and one was super surprising 🤯🤯 The stuff showing over the end credits was like a love letter to Fox ❤❤❤ I'm so glad I avoid 90% of all online chatter about it. I think I only saw the teaser, the first trailer and Graces trailer breakdown.....and I think I enjoyed the film more because of it. 4 screens doing the midnight showing and all were over half full. I think the opening weekend is going to be good. The drop off 2nd week.....too unsure to guess probably around 50%
Critics just want the downfall of comic book movies fr, absolute haters who are jealous that other films are failing in the theaters. You can tell just from how they write their reviews, they have disdain for the comic book genre. Eternals didn't deserve a rotten tomato. :c
Then how do you explain the Mario movie critics ratings last year? Incidentally, that movie also followed the same pattern of scoring by critics and audiences (panned by critics, rated highly by audiences).
I'm pretty sure she meant she understands why the commenter isn't very happy with Shawn Levy. She literally even said, "Is he aggressively supportive? 😬"
Can you do a 10 to 12 minute video of you when you see a movie. Like how you prepare and final thoughs before you go into the screening then a shot back to when you come out saying you were surprised or anything you were feeling then saying watch my spoilers video coming soon.
Just wanted to comment here about the m&ms + popcorn debate… just be aware… you’re looking at 1000+ calories of highly processed fats and sugars from just a moderate serving of that. I recently learned that the amc large gourmet popcorns have between 2000-3000 calories and people eat that in one sitting with a soda and candy and then get dinner after… almost a 6,000 calorie event… just know you’re looking at putting on 1-2 lbs of pure fat on your body after a trip to movie concessions. This was part of the reason I became obese and after years of hard work have finally gotten back in the healthy range. I take dried apples now to snack on. Movie concessions are worse for you than McDonald’s. They literally are poison for your body and kill people with cancer and heart disease. It’s criminal that we allow it, especially for children. That’s not hyperbole or exaggeration. It’s criminal.
Does the general audience even care about the Rotten Tomatoes score? I think I'm a big movie fan but I never cared for it. I even use letterboxd and I don't care about the score there 😅 Maybe Deadpool & Wolverine will get more mix reactions than expected but it's in line with the previous Deadpool movie so I think at least it will do in line with those movies. But I'm pretty sure it will do even slighlty more because of Hugh Jackman. I skipped Deadpool 2 but this third movie got me back because of Hugh. The only thing is that people might have over hyped the cameos. It's not going to be Multiverse Of Madness level of disappointing but close.
Damn it, i took off the live chat to not get spoiled for deadpool and bam a clip of a cameo, i said ah man but i smiled and said that character looks so cool and accurate so im not that mad, but no more internet for me 😅
Speaking about the global box office, Inside Out 2’s second largest market after the US is actually Mexico adding up close to $100 M to its box office.
The RT scores really concerned me , it was actually in the low 70s yesterday and I was really worried , it hit certified fresh really quick then there was like this mass amount of bad reviews came pouring in and really botched the score , but then it shot back up 11% into the 80s I hope it stays above the 80s.
From what I read between the lines at Deadpool Kevin feige accepted Deadpool 3 only with hugh jacksmans Wolverine and so he was forced to come back to help his friend. That hopefully doesn’t mean an 10 movie contract until he is 90 but will see.
It doesn’t have anything to do with school, but major. A b might be bad for a soft major like basket weaving, but a b in differential equations or physical chemistry is good
If this Twisters kiss scene really causes a problem I hope Hollywood learns from it Wish tanked last year and the only people who really care about the film are the ones mourning the original love story that Asha was going to have with star, and we haven't had a Disney romance be the focus of a film since Tangled so that could've made the film huge and Twisters could've been another Titanic if the romance was more of a focal point too My understanding is that TV has given so many great couples to people and they continue to do so that people crave them even more now and Hollywood should cater to that Edit: The whole reason Elemental was able to rise like it did was also due to the romance so there's clearly an audience for it that's hungry and cinema isn't giving them what they want
Was anyone expecting a thougjt provoking, thinkpiece from a DEADPOOL movie?? I think as long as the audience scores are good and the Box Office numbers are good then it'll all be ok P.s. Grace you should try Reese's Pieces and Popcorn!! The percect amount of Sweet and Savory! You wont go back!!
I have decided to see Twisters in the theater after all the good word of mouth I have heard! Really looking forward to seeing Deadpool & Wolverine, but I have to wait until the 31st to see it.
Who cares about those critics, we had an amazing time watching the movie yesterday and peope were clapping at the end of it, I bet that those are the same critics who thought that the Last Jedi was a masterpiece lol
I think a social media media „review“ can’t be very nuanced in the first place, can’t it? Also I think it’s totally fine that critic reviews aren’t comic book fan reviews - that’s what the audience reviews are for IMO. With critics I like a more distanced view, personally
Media coverage surrounding Marvel and critics response to recent comic book projects angers me. They’re so quick to deface comic book movies as if the that genre in film hasn’t been carrying movie theatre’s for years now. This is not to say that they can’t judge a bad project but they’re so quick to slander these projects or movies. An example being that variety magazine that came out recently about marvel. And I know it’s journalism but it’s just sad.
Negative reviews and headlines might hurt Deadpool and Wolverine at the box office. People are already tired of the MCU formula and bad word of mouth spreads like fire.
i've watched some of the YT reviewers who are less enthusiastic about the movie... and i gotta say, I think they kinda expect stuff that's NOT in the movie and miss the point to this movie.
ZOOTOPIA 2 100% Had the best story/script of all modern Disney films. And AVATAR (2009) copied a lot that came before it...but it was still an incredible film.
Deadpool humor is not for everyone. I do not like Deadpool and his style of humor. I'm only watching the movie tomorrow evening because of Wolverine and the numerous cameos in it. The critics did not like Joker because its was so bleak and cynical.
I don’t think GP should be being talked about like he’s only there to be ogled at. And saying it’s his own fault that people apparently only see him this way is sickening dialogue
I enjoyed it but found the plot a little convoluted. I think it would do so much better if it were more accessible to general audiences by not relying too heavily on references and having a more streamlined story
