Nora is a beautiful name! I personally love the names Ophelia (I don't expect you to consider that because the fs pattern is a NIGHTMARE), Dawn, Thea, and Alina. The last three all coincidentally mean "light" or "first appearance of light"!

My daughter's middle name is Grace and I love it so much that I often call her that. (We wanted our kids to have biblical middle names) Her first name was a compromise, and now it just fits her perfectly. Whatever you pick, you'll grow to love.

This was the exact issue my hubby and I had we had our boy name set and then we liked alot of girl names but never felt one name was IT. In the end we decided the day after she was born right before we went home lol I caved to my husbands fave! I never really got that feeling that any name was IT and now her name has just grown with her! I love short names like the ones on your list! I love the name Nora, you could also spell it Norah to be different than your cousin. Or Leah, which is similar? Another name similar to that, is Nova?? My name is Tori, so I'm partial to it, but it might fit well? Also Alice, which is similar to Aly (and Aly could be a nickname for), or Elle/Ella/Emma which are also similar. Eve/Eva/Eden are really unique and bite size names with sweet meanings. I'm sure whatever name you choose will suit your sweet girl perfectly! 😊

1st - Bailey has become a much more accepted girls name, and 2nd - Haven (Olde English for a place of safety.) As a 1st grade teacher I see a lot of the names you mentioned in school. I have a student named Nora in my class this year. I also named my 26 year old daughter Madison long before it became so popular. So many of the old Victorian names are coming back in fashion. Try digging into your ancestry a little more to see what matches with your last name or connects to a well-loved relative! The best stories are about how you were named.

Kayleigh is a hit song by Marillion, one of my favorite bands. As a result of making a lot of friends of other Marillion fans, I now know 6 Kayleighs, the oldest is 29, the youngest is 11 - so not too common. My sister in law was Jane (she passed away 9 years ago), and my mother in law called her Janie, not Jane. There's another IE for Zach to get annoyed at people fingerspelling a Y instead of an I (which I totally understand!!). When my children were born, they called her AJ, short for Aunt Jane. You'll probably hear a lot of other people tell you they struggled with a name. For my oldest, my husband said 'if it's a boy, THIS is his name. There was no entertaining other names, he was adamant about the name (which I wasn't thrilled with), but his name does fit. I picked his middle name, which is my husband's first name. (we didn't find out gender either time) My younger son, we both agreed we wanted an Irish name , so I bought Irish baby name books and had a caveat that the name couldn't be in the top 100 names the Social Security Administration published for the previous year. He was 5 hours old before my husband said 'he looks like a X Y" and I agreed. Silly me, that was name number 33 the year before, and my older son had FIVE boys with that same name in Kindergarten!!" He only had one classmate all through school with the same name. I really like Mackenzie.

First want to say ily, You guys are so sweet!!! I had the same problem when naming my daughter. Only you guys will know the right name for her, but what helped us is using it a few time for a few days and using it in conversation, like Zach is doing with Madison, that helped to know if 1. We would like it and 2. If it felt right for our daughter too. Using it while she's still with you Courtney, in utero, you feel her every movement and have a good sense of her... try a name out and you'll figure out quick what works and what doesn't. Sending prayers you find a name that works best for your family. 🤟🏻🙏🏻

My husband and I are expecting our second this summer, and I gotta tell ya, I kinda LOVE the fact that y’all have to consider finger spelling as an aspect to naming your daughter. Omg I love that name sign for Nora 😍😍😍😍😍😍 My husband and I want to adopt a deaf baby in the future. All my other children have Spanish names because they’re Mexican but for a deaf baby who might be another ethnicity I’m more about picking a name that we just enjoy and has a nice meaning. I’ve always been partial to Rowan in particular, and Coraline, spelled Korraline, and Korra as a nickname (the last air bender lol).

Some great girl names with meaning! Clara -bright, Ada -noble and sweet, Elora -light, Nola -fair shoulder, Zula -brilliant (all easy sign names that go great with Jane as a middle name)

So funny about the -ie names!! My name is Kellie spelled with an -ie and always loved jt and felt like it made me more unique to have an -ie instead of -y. My mom also has an -ie name so we get to share that which I love! I wanted the name Maisie for my daughter too! My husband said it sounded like a horse name. We named her Molly. Also she’s your baby and you can pick how you spell nicknames. I had a boy name picked out from the beginning, and then we had two girls. I agree -- there are so many cute choices. Our first is Adeline (Addie -- sorry, Zach), and people mispronounce it ALL the time. Adalyn(n) has become much more popular in the last few years, and people say her name with the short /i/ instead of the long. With our long last name, we went simple with our second: Kate (Katie 😂)

A note about Nora... the name Nur also means light, from the same root. And it a bit more different.

I have a Callie but we didn't like the ie or i or ee or y endings so we spelled her name Calleigh. Her full name is Calleigh Ramona. I also have a Cassidy Annette, and Aariawna Josephine. I love the name Madison. As soon as your husband signed that name, I felt I could picture your little girl.

To piggyback off of Nora, a couple of friends of mine named their first daughter Alina, which means “bright, beautiful”. That’s an alternative with no “ie” at the end, and it’s a pretty name.

My son is deaf and the sound of the name was important when him and his wife was choosing name. They name one of thier girls Evelyn and the other Ariella. Oh and his wife is hearing. We call Ariella Ella for short and Evelyn Evie for short. They also have two boys Koen and Isaac.

One name that I really love is the name Abigail. In Hebrew it means joy of the father.

I'm trying to come up with names without an ie or y lol: Grace Cora/Korra Elisabeth/Elizabeth (you could use Eliza/Elisa or Beth as a nickname) Eliza (I know it has an i but I thought that people might not confuse it for a y in a name like Eliza) Everlee/Everleigh/Everly Joy Bree (or Brie, but that has ie) Ava Josie (I know it has an ie, but you could use Jo as a nickname to make it easier to sign) Elle/Ele (pronounced Ellie but doesn't have an ie)

What about including the first letter of your first name (Zachary and Courtney), make a name that contains C and Z. It’s a suggestion 😅 I know a couple who struggled with picking a name for their first child (like you guys, haha) and they decided to use the last letter of their last name (Hernandez), so their child’s name started with Z!

I like the name Mia! It's super sweet & it's easy to finger spell. My sister's name was Mia, so I think it's pretty special :) Mia also means "wished-for child" if you didn't know. I have a few suggestions. I went with a biblical theme :) 1) Adele (means "kind, noble, tender") If you really like the name "Jane" as a middle name, you could do AJ. 2) Eden (means "delight") For short, you could do "Edie" but I know Zach doesn't like the "i's" lol XD 3) Ada (means "noble") Again, you could do AJ if "Jane" is her middle name, but I think the name Ada Jane is really beautiful. you can name your daughter Farisa or Starla. I did name those to my two amazing daughters. Right now they are in their teenagers! Nora Jane is a good fitting for your baby. Maddie is a good nickname for Madison but he doesn't like -ie. Since you don't want "plain Jane", you may want to add a little bit to that name like Janelle or Janey.

I know a little girl named Margaret Jane & they call her Mazy .... just had to share & I went to school with a Mary Jane & we all called her MJ. But I will tell you this..... I thought I knew all the way up to about a week before my son was born & I changed it. 😊

My husband and I are naming our daughter Emma June. Emma would be easy to sign, looks pretty in writing, and I love how soft it sounds 😍 the middle name June was what we picked first. Nur (also spelled Noor, Nor, or Nour is a common Arabic unisex name meaning light ,The Divine Light. An-Nur, meaning "the light"

Ive been thinking that i want to name my future kids something like this. Girls: Allondra may Ellery jane Boys: Alexsandr Henry And idk another boys name. The first middlename is very common in my mums side and the last two are common in my dad's.
