I'm surprised there are no comments here. You two seem great together and I love that the purpose is to reach out to people you care about and open the discussion of the "language barrier". As a Deaf person and a teacher, I am learning barriers only stay barriers when we don't do anything to educate people on how to break them down or get rid of them altogether.

I just found your channel. My fiancé and majority of his family are deaf. Myself and my entire family are all hearing. I really worry about the language barrier but my man always tells me it’s fine and don’t worry. He’s used to interacting with hearing people so he’s not concerned at all lol. I’ve always been drawn to ASL. Such a beautiful language. I’m in school to be an interpreter.

That’s an awesome story! It’ll be so fun brining both the hear culture and Deaf culture together in your family! Best of luck with interpreting!

Hi. I'm hearing and I sign. I memorized finger spelling in ASL when I found a post card with the alphabet on it when I was 5 years old. Fast forward to when I was 20 years old. My job transferred me to a new store that had one deaf employee. We quickly became friends and I took ASL 1 AND 2. I'm now 60 years old and still sign. I want to get my Interpreting certification for when I'm closer to retirement.

Well in my neighborhood there is a deaf man, he is like 20 years older than me but he is very friendly, at first I just looked for an eye contact and smile haha but with that I felt like saying hi, then I learned basic signs of my country LESSA (btw I'm from El Salvador) and I started to have little conversations with him, now I know his name, Jorge and it's so great to communicate with him in his language, I continue learning but I think is worth it :) hope u understand my english is not so good

Hi! I’m Hard of Hearing and I’m learning Sign Language. I have a question, let’s say I’m learning SEE (Signed Exact English) and I meet a Deaf person someday. Would they be able to understand me? Or should I just stick to learning ASL?

Hey! That's a really good question. Thank you for coming to us for an answer! We actually think that's a wonderful subject and we'll answer that question more in-depth in an upcoming video. For the short answer, we would recommend you learn ASL because that would allow you to learn a beautiful language and be a part of a great community built around it.

@@asltogether631 I understand what you’re saying, I really do. But at the end of the day isn’t it all about what that person feels more comfortable with? I mean yes the person may be learning SEE or PSE. But others shouldn’t judge that persons signing just because it is not PURE ASL. That’s not right. No one should judge anyone. :) I believe all Sign languages are BEAUTIFUL. :) No matter if it’s ASL, SEE, or PSE. ☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️🤟🤟🤟
