Sis, I don't believe they're missing anything, and this is coming from someone who grew up in a big compound. We all talk about how nice it is to have a community, but no one talks about the ills that come out of this same place, and you don't even want to get me started on the evil that happens. But then again, some good also comes out of it. For someone who lived in Lagos, when I started my own family, we did not relate with our neighbors or play in the compound 😅. As parents, we owe it to our kids to train them in the best way, with the infusion of our culture in all we do. If you are looking for association, go to church and let them go to children's church. On the other hand, daycare would also help because parents are not there to supervise. Once they start school, I feel they will build their community, and that solves it.

The church part is one of the reasons I made it priority to start going to church. They enjoy children church a lot now and we all look forward to church every Sunday. I believe everything will work itself out eventually.

My dear, by the time they grow up, the choice is theirs as a mum of teenagers. I am the one reminding them about home. Trust me, you're doing a great job, the language and culture jisike

To be honest, sis, it all depends on where you live and the types of neighbours that you have . My neighbour son normally comes to our house to play with my boys 👦 they played ball in my compound, but I don't allow my kids to go to their. Kids are lonely, too, that while I check with my kids, I give them time to play games online with their school mates. Once your kids grow up, they will blend in. About the language, I'm really trying with my boys, and I think they are progressing .

I believe they will blend in well too. Good job teaching your kids Yoruba 💪🏾❤️

Truly they get to miss out on playtime with kids their age asides from being in school. Unlike while we were growing up as kids in the 1990s you get to mix up with kids and have a feel of what playtime is with different kids. But I mean that’s the life and how it is here in the diaspora. Hopefully they can find what they like as they grow up

It's really hard adjusting to the culture but kids learn really fast! Thanks for talking about this💙

I have missed coming here. Osi k'ebe o bu akpam aga?😂 I feel you on the identity crisis with our kids and the anxiety of thinking they will be deprived. It is thought provoking. You are indeed doing a great job with your girls.

when kids mix up with each other, it make them become bold, that is why most people can take their kids to Africa to spend some time their and let them know, this is where you belong my child, culture is very important, keep doing your best.

Thank you dear. I don’t think i have the heart to leave my kids in Africa. I will have to follow them 😂

I would advise you to not feel bad about your kids not playing in the neighbourhood or people’s houses. You need to be very careful with kids. Even in Africa you have to supervise your kids. A lot of predators are becoming very bold these days so please whether in Africa or abroad do not be so free with your kids. A child here in South Africa Cape Town was murdered while having a sleepover at his friend’s relative’s place. Growing up here in Africa my parents refused for me to do any sleep overs and at the time I felt it was unfair but now as a grown up with my own kids I am extremely cautious when it comes to my kids. You are raising girls so please be extremely careful. I am not trying to fear monger you but unless you know someone well to leave your kids with, please be very mindful. Other kids have been killed while playing at a park and the killer would be diagnosed with mental disorder to get a lesser sentence. This actually happened to a little girl in the UK. Your kids will be fine.
