It’s the type of mourning that really strange because even if we did not know the man and never met him physically, he change the lives of many directly through his work or indirectly by inspiring the work of others. The world lost a really amazing artists, one that comes once in a generation… may Toriyama-Sensei rest in peace knowing he change a lot of live and inspired a lot of kid that grew up with his characters and learned from the about topic like: courage to stand up for what is right, to stand up against bullies and big odds, to show kindness to your friends but also to your enemies, friendship, hard work, strength of character. There are a ton of lessons to be learned from dragon ball even in his simplicity. It’s a sad because his passing is like missing a piece of my childhood and the end of the life of a legend. But his work will carry out his legend for future generations. RIP Akira Toriyama-Sensei😭

I just want to share a personal story about the most impactful memory that Akira Toriyama allowed me to have. In 2014, I was trying to open an anime shop, and my planned grand opening happened to coincide with the release of Dragon Ball Z Battle of the Gods. I was at the movie theater on the release day passing out flyers to everyone who loved Dragon Ball just as much as I did, and because of the love that everyone shares for Dragon Ball, that grand opening ended up being a success. That was the greatest day of my life, and without this great man and his great works, that would have never been possible. Thank you Toriyama Sensei, for giving the world such a gift in influencing so much of all of our lives! RIP to one of the greatest creative minds to have ever lived.

I've loved Dragonball since just before kindergarten in 1999. Im gonna be 31 soon and Dragonball was a big part of my life then, even more so now. It fell out of favor in my teens, but I rediscovered my love for it after high school. I was well overweight and watching them all strive for greatness turned things around. I hit the weights, dropped 70 lbs, developed confidence, starting meeting friends and girls, now I'm married with a wife who grew up with Dragonball as we show it to our kids. Our son sleeps with the TV on and from birth it was Dragonball, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Yu-Gi-Oh on rotation at night. We'll be starting Dragonball over from the beginning tonight in his honor. Thank you Akira, from another silly white kid from the states you never expected to make an impact on

Rest in peace to THE greatest to ever do it. Akira Toriyama inspired *everyone*. DBZ singlehandedly got me into anime. Chrono Trigger got me into RPGs and game design. This man basically crafted my entire childhood, and remains the gold standard even now. What a profound loss.

Chrono Trigger was my first RPG, but sadly I didn't end up enjoying many other JRPGs (except Chrono Cross and Pokemon) because they just didn't measure up, and felt like they were lacking something. And I really do think part of that was Toriyama's designs and the charm they had.

I normally don't care too much about a celebrity death. But Toriyama's passing hit me. I actually shed tears for him. His work was such a huge influence on my life. It's hard to believe he's really gone.

I’m dealing with his death by getting a job, making a blueprint for my greenhouse, and signing up for a master gardening class. I can’t believe he passed at 68. What’s crazy is that Dragon Ball episode 68 was the latest episode I was on when I found out.

I was surprised it hit me so hard too. I mean, I like Dragon Ball, but it's nowhere near my favorite anime and I was way more a fan of his work on Chrono Trigger. And yet, last night I just broke down while watching the animated cutscenes and just felt gutted.

@@rev.ryan206 his work probably inspired other work you love. Toriyama’s works are cited as inspiration for many mangaka. In more ways that one Akira Toriyama is for some the father of anime, because they started with Dragon ball or one of his other work, or in some cases was the Godfather of anime because he inspired other mangaka to create show that we love. This man’s legacy is amazing and will live on for many, many generations to come!!! Rest in peace, Mr. Akira Toriyama Sensei!

In the early 2000's I volunteered at the Boys and Girls club in Anchorage Alaska. Cartoon Network at the time was airing DBZ and we would have all the kids gather in one of the rec rooms to watch. I remember how happy I was to get to introduce them to Toriyama's masterpiece. I also remember when we finally got to the Frieza saga and Goku goes Super Saiyan, those kids completely lost it! I'll always have those memories with me until the day I die. I have so much to be thankful for to him for what he gave to all of us. Even now in my 40's I still get goosebumps when I go to the theater and enjoy his movie releases. He will definitely be missed.

Even Twitter is wholesome today, with millions posting their tributes and stories of how he inspired so many. I follow many amazing artists in all genre's on there and it's incredible how many of them started out just drawing DBZ characters in their school books. 😢 RIP to a true legend.

One of my 4th grade students this morning was thinking about writing his opinion essay about why Dragon Bail Super is better than Dragon Ball Z. I asked him, had he heard about Toriyama, and he just said, "Yeah." This isn't an outwardly emotional kid and he was visibly processing. This shit is generational I've never been the biggest DBZ fan, but I'd be a liar if I said the Cell Saga didn't make a lasting impression on me at a formative age. I was thirteen, we'd just moved to a new house, and i picked the color for my room based off Trunks' hair. You can see Dragon Ball's DNA everywhere in anime, and beyond. We lost a legend.

I preferred earlier Dragonball over DBZ. It was Akira Toriyama at his most creative and whimisical. You could tell as the series went on, Toriyama was getting burned out from Dragonball.

No single individual has influenced my interest in anime and manga more than Akira Toriyama. While I've grown to love many series more than Dragonball, it was the first anime I watched where I knew it was something I had never seen before. It opened me up to a whole new world of storytelling. This loss is immense. Rest in peace, Akira Toriyama

If you ever get the chance to read the Manga Theatre collection of a bunch of his one shots I really recommend them. I binged them at work and you can not only see a lot of what would become Dragon Ball in the writing and characters, but you get to see his versatility and more of his personal interests. I really love Cashman and wish he could have made a whole series on him.

Move Well. Learn Well. Sleep Well. Rest Well. To be honest I'm still having trouble trying to process all this but I will say, Toriyama's work, passion, and overall existence has left such an impression on me and this rest of the world that I truly believe he has made his mark permanently in Human History. I don't pray much, but if there's one thing I will hope to God is true, it's that the afterlife is indeed the grand, joyous world he envisioned in his work. I'll like to think he's up there with King Kai smiling down upon all of us, thank you for Toriyama, for everything.

Akira Toriyama literally changed Shonen battle manga (FOREVER) After Dragon Ball. It’s insane that the shonen battle series today were inspired by the early 2000s manga/anime BECAUSE DB existed first. The cycle goes deep. 😭💙🖤💙

I watched Dragonball when it was in syndication, long before it made waves on Toonami. The DB film, Curse Of The Blood Rubies, was one of the first things that got me into anime as a six/seven year old along with Ronin Warriors, My Neighbor Totoro, Samurai Pizza Cats, and Sailor Moon. Something that I've always taken away from Pre-Z Dragonball is how precious innocence is in the face impossible odds and it's something that clung to in my own personal battles with mental health

The impact he had was insane. Db and dbz came into my life around the time i was a teen in a rough life. It pushed me further into martial arts and helped me to fight thru the bs i had to deal with. I would not have the moral compass or be the person i am today without him. Rest in peace. He was the Master Roshi for so many of us.... with less misogyny.

Dragon Ball Z, Outlaw Star, and Toonami were one of the reasons I kept it together in life as an adolescent. Traveling on the road and being home schooled didn't allow me to have friends. But DBZ was my best friend. R.I.P Toriyama

He really is a big reason im so big into anime and was even abig reason i love jrpg video games. I found out last night while i was trying to go bed and actually got tears. What a legend. He truly did leave an impact on the entire world. His style was so unique. With his manga he was a master of not only machines but in movement. The movement of characters actions in dragonball is incredible

I hate that I’m at the age where my heroes and those who inspire me are dying; I’m 43, born in 1980. Jees. I’m still not over Kevin Conroy’s death. Dragon Ball Z is one of the three anime that made me an anime and manga fan; Sailor Moon and Ronin Warriors being the other two in the Summer of 1995. I’m an artist myself and I am so happy when other artists and/or storytellers invite me into their worlds. I’m still a huge Piccolo fan and have a collection of his figs, statues, and so on. I love the characters Toriyama created and it was a privilege to watch them grow and evolve. His art style was his alone and is still wonderful to see and study. He is dearly missed. Rest in peace, Sir. Thank you so much for your stories.

My son was hospitalized in psychiatric care this December. He was not allowed anything in his room other than books. I was allowed to stay in his room during his stay. I brought both box sets of Dragonball and dbz. We jammed the whole series for his whole stay. Just like his art for me through a tough childhood, a world to get lost into, he gave that to my boy when he was at a low point. Cannot express how grateful I am for this man and the worlds he took us to. Thank you Akira Toriyama. Hopefully you’re on snake way right about now.

Is crazy to think how Toriyama was simultaneously establishing and deconstructing the foundations of shonen manga. And he was doing that in the 80s and 90s, before the idea of deconstructing the genre was even a thing. He was a genius and he was definitely way ahead of his time. Rest in peace.

There really are few people who can be considered truly legendary. He inspired the entire world through anime, manga and videogames, it should never be understated that Dragonball burst anime into the mainstream unlike anything, and set the industry standard for manga

So many of my deepest and most fulfilling relationships were created because of Akira Toriyama's work. His art was the ultimate ice breaker for me as an awkward kid with social anxieties and insecurities about my ability to hold conversations with strangers. He had away of uniting all kinds of people with his genius and I'm eternally grateful to him as a creative and an inspiration. I only wish I could have thanked him personally in some way.

Mine was a fox subsidiary with sailor moon followed by the original USA dub of the original Dragonball, it was at like 6 am though, so I never managed to see it again, but it stuck with me till I got cartoon network and learned what it was. That's when I remembered that I had seen it before

I'm not here to make a sob story for me. So many of us have our own experience with his work. My story, is how my best friend and I became so, through Dragon Ball. It was that through line thread that connected us, blossoming into an incredible friendship for over 30 years. My friend passed not long ago, and that was crushing. When I heard Toriyama had passed, it brought so much hurt back, but also gratitude. His influence and art sparked a friendship I can't replace, and a love for a medium I would not have without him. RIP Toriyama, thank you for so much you gave me personally, and all of us collectively.

There are words I cannot describe after the shocking news last night. The inner child me cries with the passing of Akira Toriyama who died at acute subdural hematoma. He is one of the most influence creators we have in our time, and he's inspired other manga creators to create their own Shonen franchises like Naruto and One Piece. I would have never gotten into Toonmai at a young age if not for Dragon Ball Z. Let alone other medias like movies and video games. RIP Akira Toriyama. We will forever miss you and thank you for everything!

Leiji Matsumoto is another of those rarefied manga artists with a unique, distinct, one-of-a-kind art style. He passed away in February 2023.

I still remember my first experience with DragonBall Z, tuned in flipping channels and Goku beat the snot out of the Recoome, followed by Jeice and Burter. Then Vegeta finishing them both off. My anime gateways would always be Street Fighter 2V and Yu Yu Hakusho, but the DragonBall series as a whole transformed and motivated the world as a whole, just like it did with it's own characters. For now, another great gets to rest, and legends continue on.

DB and DBZ helped me out of the first real depression that I ever experienced in my then young life. It's an entirely captivating journey filled with various characters and an enthralling world of pure adventure. These creations got me into the medium of anime/manga in which I'm still enjoying till this day. Forever grateful for this mans genius. Akira you deserve a beautiful afterlife.

It's crazy to think how far his influence reached. Because he did inspire artists, gamers, writers, designers, and even athletes. So many body builders and gym goes got their motivation from wanted to be as strong as Toriyama's characters

I am a ballerina and when my teeacher ignored me bc I wasnt "thin enough" I developed a way to train inspired by Goku's. I am still using it

As soon as I heard he died I instantly broke out my chalk and drew Arale (the main character from his first anime, Dr. Slump.) this was the hardest I have been hit by a celebrity death since Norm McDonald.

Well spoken. Tore me up at work when I saw. Finally home and able to process a bit. Crazy to think one guy had that much influence on so many people around the world in a positive way. He is and will be missed but I am extremely thankful for the art and the legacy he left when he was here.

Toriyama is the reason I'm into anime. My first memory of anime is of me walking in to the kitchen at like 4am to find my dad eating breakfast, lacing up his boots, and getting ready to go to work with DragonBallZ on this tiny little 8-12" tv we had there for some reason. On the saiyan arc where Goku fought Vegeta for the first time, I was captivated by it instantly

I became a Dragon Ball fan thanks to my sister. I used to watch the anime with her when I was a kid, and became so enamored I collected the entire manga early on. Many, many years later, I gave that same collection to my nephews, my buddies, and they love it as well. The great moments we've shared thanks to that show (pretending we were doing Kamehamehas with the waves at the beach, watching the Super movies together at the cinema...) are too numerous to count, and I couldn't thank you more for that, Akira-san. Thank you so, so much.

You nailed it. Toriyama inspired countless people. Most of whom he never met. And I'm sure he was as happy to have us as his admirers as much as we admired his work. He moved the world in a way that very few people can seldom accomplish. May he rest in peace.

Rest easy. His epic helped me find the strength to train martial arts.. His inspiration to people's personal life through his art is invaluable. The world lost one of its greatest heroes.

It’s been extremely difficult for me. It’s lonely too because I don’t have many friends to share my grief with. I grew up in Japan and I was exposed to Dragon Ball in 2007 at age 8, then the orange Z box set. I’ve been looking at my figures, my copy of Raging Blast, and just old drawings I made as a kid growing up. It’s so hard dealing with this and ik im not alone here. I’ve never felt this way about a celebrity since Kevin Conroy. Thank you for everything Akira Toriyama. (Not even Naruto or One Piece can hold a candle)..been listing to openings on repeat.

Like many people Dragon Ball was the first anime I ever watched, it's a huge part of my childhood. I've grown not to like myself as I grew older, becoming an older bitter soul by the day. If one thing keeps me grounded and "happy" it's the two hobbies I have in my life, and of them is anime. I don't know if I would've ever gotten into it if it wasn't for Dragon Ball, if it wasn't for Akira. So for the person who introduced me to this wonderful world of animation that I love so much and the reason I can still feel that kid like happiness, I grieve.

Toriyama-san had such a positive impact on my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. Without DragonBall. His death has hit me so hard. Only comfort is knowing how much this genius meant to so many. Toriyama-san. Thank you. I never met you. But you helped raise me into who I am today. I can never repay you. Thank you.

Aside from Gundam, Toriyama-sensei’s approach to rendering mech and machinery is absolutely phenomenal ☝🏽 I used to draw just Dragonball characters non-stop, back in high school Fun times indeed… Thank you, for the memories, Akira-san

Akira Toriyama work 100 percent saved my life. Theirs been times where I lost everything important to me. Dragonball taught me I can ruse up from the darkness, to fight when the light at the end of the tunnel was not insight. Dragonball inspired me to get into martal arts, find some spiritualy threw its influence in Daoism. My to mention how i spiring his art is. Thank you Akira Toriyama. Rest in peace

It was never the most popular series in the US, but I loved Dragon Quest Monsters (Dragon Warrior Monsters) growing up. I loved the monster designs so much and it was always so nice seeing new games still being made with all new Toriyama designs that all felt like they could've been in any game of the series. Knowing I'll never get to see a new Toriyama design ever again is heartbreaking.
