Wanna know how influential Akira Toriyama was? I’m currently watching Bleach and just a few days ago. I discovered that the creator. Tite Kubo was given a letter from Toriyama himself, and encouraged him to try again after he was rejected from Shonen Jump before. The fact that Bleach went on to become one of the all-time anime goats is a testament to how influential ToriYama is and it is disgusting that a piece of garbage like that Kindred wants to spit on his grave while we are all grieving.

Toriyama-Sensei was a legend and the reason i became an artist. Dragon Ball's impact on my life and how it shaped me as a person was all due to him. I will always remember and respect him, for he is the Godfather Shounen and an insanely great inspiration. So I grew up in a small town, and I did have three black friends. But we all knew each other since we were in preschool. When it came to breaking the ice with people from other cultures, I was really awkward about it. And I stayed that way until college. One year I had a humanities class And we had to do a presentation on hobbies. I chose Dragon Ball Z and it’s cultural impact. After class I had literally five black dudes. Who wanted to talk to me about Dragon Ball Z. Toriyama’s work broke cultural barriers. As a Black man, I can say, many of us knew Mr. Popo wasnt Black, we have seen the Black characters Toriyama created, and they were always just that, Black. He did over exaggerate their features, notably their lips, but we looked past it and forgave it for the most part. Black anime characters in general are usually mostly drawn with overly exaggerated features; Usopp from One Piece, Chocolove McDonnel from Shaman King, Simon from Durarara, even a character or two from One Punch Man. Toriyama-san's influence on anime and manga as we know it today is nothing short of highly influential. It still does not stop the fact that those same other creators were inspired to make changes to Black characters however; Tosen Kaname and Yoruichi from Bleach, the ENTIRE village Hidden in the Clouds in Naruto, hell, on the revamped Shaman King, they changed Chocolove's look. But one thing we will NOT do nor allow, is for anyone to trash that man's name, period. My buddy was talking to me about it and he always thought that I said DragonBall wasnt the best anime ever when that wasnt the case in any sense. He just misunderstood it when I said Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite anime of all time, however, that doesnt take away the fact that DragonBall is THE anime. It popularized the entire genre and made it marketable not only in the US, but the entire globe. The entire anime and manga industry was catapulted in popularity thanks in most part to DragonBall,. Credits goto Sailor Moon and Yu Yu Hakusho as well, but the king was and is DragonBall. The sheer amount of creators that copied his work is basically endless and look at all the great creations we got because of ONE show... Naruto, Bleach, One Piece , hell I remember watching an episode of Dr. Stone and guess who made the most random appearance despite it making no sense to show him... Goku. Goku popped up in a show about science of ALL things, goes to show that even NON action oriented anime are still somehow influenced by just DragonBall. Akira Toriyama-san's name will remain protected. Hell, the man was basically the Japanese Stan Lee of anime. In the way that people typically think of Stan The Man Lee when it comes to comics, people think of Akira Toriyama when it comes to anime. That simply won't happen, you can't force people to change what they desire to consume. So, is not that people surrender to consume what is standard, but the standard is a reflection of what people desire to consume. In the market, what people don't want to consume will eventually always disappear. So, the only bad news, is that it seems they really will only stop after they bankrupt the companies they work with, which means a lot of companies will stop existing before this is solved.
