Bob this is Kurt the drummer from the burg (now in az) I’m trying to get a good band recording out. Of my soundcraft ui 16. Using aux 3&4 output to a zoom recorder, but I can never seem to get it right - something is always screwed up - no bass, or the. Gain is too high, etc. do you have any advice on how we can get this right? Totally ok with using other tools if that’s right.
I'm assuming you have aux 3&4 stereo linked. I'm also assuming you have the gains on each channel of the UI set correctly. Watch the gain on the master for Aux3&4 and be sure it's not peaking. Watch the input gain on your Zoom device to make sure it isn't peaking. If you are missing the bass guitar, be sure the bass guitar is turned up in Aux 3&4. A good idea would be to have someone listening to the headphone out on the Zoom, and do a mix with Aux3&4. It would be almost impossible to be performing and mixing at the same time. Someone with a tablet and access to the Aux3&4 mix page could do this for you, and that should be someone other than the person doing the FOH mix. A FOH mix will never sound correct as a stand-alone recording. For example, the guitar may be turned way down in the FOH mix because the person is using a Marshall stack and filling the room. When you listen to the recording from the FOH, just from the mixer, you will hear very little guitar as very little was needed in the room mix. Hope this helps.
@@suzanneandthecontenders The UI16 will only record the stereo main out. You would need the UI24 to record individual tracks. That is definitely the preferred method, though. You don't necessarily need Pro Tools. Any DAW, like Garage Band, Studio One, etc, will work.
