Dean Blunt is a living legend.

Dean Blunt is possibly one of my favorite musicians ever. Few artists manage to be as enigmatic and esoteric whilst also creating such rewarding music.

I quit smoking weed for the last two months but ended up breaking my streak with a few friends yesterday. When I woke up still stoned today I put this on while my mates were asleep and that is in my opinion the perfect context for this album. Dean is one of the best to do it.

This snapshot approach has been a constant in Blunt's work. It's like he gives you just enough to get the idea and moves on, very conceptual in that sense, like "music as object". I remember all the youtube visual snippets from out of nowhere that he would upload since the days of Hype Williams.

I really didn’t like this album when I first heard it, but yesterday I ended up coming back to it for some reason and it’s really grown on me. It’s not the songwriting or the instrumentation, but just... the vibe? Now it might be a contender for my favorite of the year. What made me like it is kind of indescribable but I keep wanting to get lost in it for some reason. Maybe it was because I listened to it in my car the first time and my second listen was on decent headphones, which seems to be more of the situation it’s made for.

Dear Anthony Fantano, For many years I have been shrouded in my own internal conflict. 2010 marked the beginning of this fiasco. On one sunny afternoon I happened to come across a fresh artist known as Marina and The Diamonds who had just released her new LP "The Family Jewels". I was intrigued by her unique operatic vocals that flourished within a slew of gleaming pop beats. It instantly became one of my favourite albums. However, this unfortunate act of forming my own opinion was a result of your absence. You already disappointed me with your repulsive score for MBDTF and you had the audacity not to review this masterpiece. "Well", I thought to myself after waiting countless months for a review. "Next time there's most likely a chance". But it was to my own dismay that when Marina's sophmore album "Electra Heart" rolled in I had to once again go through the arduous task of forming my own opinion on the album. Despite the slightly outdated production, the vocals were still at top form and there had been a massive improvement in lyricism and themes considering the the LP's conceptual nature which takes a satirical dip into the patriarchy. I was astounded by this album once again but I kept thinking to myself: "what if Fantano dislikes this album, I can't give it a 9". Alas, my anxious thoughts did not entirely consume me as the next album rolled out soon after. 2015 was the year where Marina's 3rd project "Froot" came around and I knew that this time I could finally save myself the trouble of using a single brain cell to process any thoughts around the album as Anthony would surely drop a review the third time around. Electra Heart was a massive hit after all which drove Marina into the mainstream, he couldn't ignore her now. Indeed I was almost correct. Anthony, you were able to condense your thoughts into a 1 minute clip during a YUNO review of Froot. You claimed that the album was too grand for its nature and finally I was able to say "Yes I agree with that rather ridiculous opinion of yours". But this was when the beginning of my midlife crisis occured "WHAT SCORE SHOULD I GIVE IT???" Fantano's absence of a score drove me mad. It seemed like he shed a generally positive light on the album but is that a 6, 7 or maybe an 8???? I don't know and I never will. For days and sleepless nights I worked on developing a complex algorithm that would help me determine what score to give Froot on RYM. After numerous calculations I decided a 7 would fit. To this day I am happy with that score but I would have prefered to save the trouble of concocting such a complex algorithm. Hopefully on the fourth run, Fantano would finally come to his senses and give Marina the proper review she finally deserved. It was at that time the fourth album rolled along "Love + Fear" it was called, though I myself would just "Fear" as these were the only emotions I could possibly feel while listening to this immense downfall of a once great artist. At least I think she was great and I think this was a downfall. I don't know what you thought of her past projects so maybe she was terrible. But anyway, though I myself already decided I hated this new LP, I was only 5% certain that I hated it because once again, I needed your opinion for validation. Unfortunately, days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months and there was never a review. After so many years I thought your neglect for Marina would finally come to an end, but I was wrong. As a result I had to use what little brain cells I had left to form my own opinion on this album. After the last few drops I had in me were sucked dry, I was left with nothing. However, I can not blame you for avoiding her album this time around, I wish I could have avoided this abomination myself, at least you did yourself a favour. It is now 2021, two years after the evisceration of my brain cells and Marina has released her new album "Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land". But what do I think of this album? Nothing, I don't know, I have no more thoughts left in me. And after seeing you review three albums since Marina's new release, I am crying in agony, fearing that you may never review this album. I am out of fuel Anthony, and you are the only one who can refill me. If that sounds sexual I apologize, that was not my intent. I plead you Fantano, please review Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land by Marina, my favourite artist. If this is not done I can only fear the worst will come. I may suffer an end worse than death. If you do review this album I may regain my brain cells again and will finally know whether I can still like Marina. Please Anthony, heal my soul from eternal pain. I beg thee.
