I was at this concert. It was indeed intense, dark, brooding. It felt unpredictable. The audience waited an hour in the roomy, well-lit upstairs gallery expecting that the concert would be held there, only to be marshalled down to this dingy, spare basement at the last minute. The bit where the bass was raised to eardrum rattling levels felt genuinely menacing. But I'd say Dean delivered, leaving newcomers like me with more questions than answers.
Same! I remember his abrupt exit off the stage to be almost as confusing as the sudden ushering into the basement-what a bizarre and amazing show. His having a bodyguard behind him added such an unexpectedly insulating element too lol
