@@RowanWiccae basically the whole tree thing is a major theme throughout the whole plot. "When you're falling in a forest and there's nobody around, do you ever really crash or even make a sound" is hitting deep because what was made fun of and taken lightly at the beginning of the play (him breaking his arm because he fell out of a tree) becomes more serious when we learn that Evan didnt fall, he let go and tried to ki** himself. (Side note: which is why for forever is even more beautiful, because he makes up this whole story about connor and heals through that because in this song connor is there when he fell and picks him back up instead of how it really happened which is that evan laid on the floor for a solid 10 minutes waiting for someone to show up but no one came)
@IlAxonymlI brilliance would mean variety. If those "ticks" are the only way you act, that's just you being the only character you know how to play......with that specific mannerism.
I believe he has tourettes but, I could be mistaken. I have read he has severe anxiety and has been on meds(who hasn't or at least who doesn't have anxiety). He's amazing though and I love his voice.
While he was amazing I feel sorry he was sick. I can imagine doing such a performance is a peak wish for most and he didn’t get a chance to fully enjoy.
The thing about this that some people don’t know about is that Ben was REALLY sick when he did this performance, like I’m pretty sure *pneumonia* kind of sick, which makes this 1000% more impressive
No matter the artist, no matter the occasion, if someone is singing in a televised recording there is always someone in the comments telling me that they were “sick” 😂
@@SteAndKel and they often are... i mean he's performing at the TONY AWARDS. A lot of stress can make a person sick and with this much on the line i def think this was one of the factors
Ben Platt was very sick for this performance and he did what a true actor would do. Put 110% into your performance and NOT let the audience know ANY signs you are sick! Great Job Ben, Proud of You!
This is relatable having these intense feelings expressed in song in an environment where nobody notices and just goes about their business, no fancy broadway number just the internal experience of what its like to feel invisible.
After watching the show in Detroit I can say Ben Platt is Evan Hansen! His voice is just perfect! I’m happy he was Evan in the movie so I can watch it over and over again! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I watched this several years ago, and then I forgot the title of the song. Four years later, I finally found the video that I have always been looking for, it is making me emotional ahhh
What a beautiful song. An anxiety anthem. Never saw the play but this song brought me here . Felt like this so many times. What a masterful performance of the song. Platt's an incredible talent.
@@hannahkate18 compared to the Broadway, the movie drops a lot of the aspects, it's more serious. But the overall story is more or less the same, though a noticeable difference is that Evan suffers much harder with anxiety and depression in the movie.
i genuinely don't think that DEH should have won best musical that year, i don't think i ever will, but i will say that Ben in this performance - and in this show in general - was absolutely astounding. i tip my hat to him and everyone involved in this show
It’s a wonderful show. I really loved it but have to say it was the most emotional theater experience I ever had. I sobbed through much of it, for real.
people somehow dont like the movie, idk if its because its too different from the musical or because ben platt was too old but they just dont seem to like it. I dont get it
Because it can’t compare to the live show, truly worth seeing on Broadway! And I know.. “movies are different” but In The Heights did it right or they could have done it like Hamilton. Honestly would have been a thousand times better imo
@@djmotise It is not so much, obviously it does not compare to the musical, but in the end, it shows well what anxiety is, we have to stop being so negative and simply enjoy the movie
But he's sadly worse in the movie. In the musical, he does perfectly at Evan, but for the musical, they got rid of a lot of the small details in his character. In my opinion, they should've done a recast for the film. And changed a lot of other things about the film. Colton Ryan was great though.
I think every time. How can he have such a loud voice without a microphone? It is not something anyone can do and he has a great voice. I am so impressed when I hear his voice.
I hope this was the version of Ben Platt that was in the movie, i love him and his character but the styling just really made him look unnecessarily old
His tone feels a bit breathy. Like the backing music is more potent than his voice. His voice is perfect for acoustic guitar stuff though. And during the bridge he sounded hella Irish ☘️
Good performance but it honestly feels like he's doing way to much with his mannerism I know alot of people on here say that makes the performance but it just was off putting and kinda try hard for me
I find him to be nearly unwatchable and embarrassing. A lot of that is dampened in the movie-but not enough. It does not help that the music and lyrics are so mediocre.
I am very much in love with the raw imperfection with which he sings this song. They showed this clip in a video my daughter was watching about stage managing and I had to come here to find it. I was like "I have no desire to hear someone come and belt this song out perfectly. I need the one where he sounds mediocre! No beautiful singing for me! Just beautiful passion, awkwardness and rawness!"
Isn't this Cultural Appropriation? He is mocking ticks and seizures that neurodivergent people do. They should have hired an actual autistic actor to play the role😢
As someone with autism and tourettes, I really don’t care who performs it. There’s more important things in life than who portrays something in a musical
