Aren't people more mad about the new append skills this anniversary and how greedy Aniplex/Lasengle has become more lazy and greedy over the years? I think you need to double-check your research, bro.
It's not just character "and whatever": they implemented new mechanic that allows you to strengthen your characters even further... by rolling additional 3-4 copies. And it requires same resource as was in the game for a long time but has no other uses, so people spent it on pretty useless stuff. One SSR character drops from gacha on average for 300 quartz (pity is 900), pack of 167 quartz costs 80$. That's just one copy, you can do the math. Those strengthens are pretty serious and changes whole gameplay of many characters, but the only way to get them is to spent tons of money. That's why people mad.
