What a treasure the stories and pictures are (even if embellished or un-pc 😂.) I would’ve been crying right along with you. We have loving raised chickens to eat but it takes less than 9 weeks and we name them things like, “Nugget”, “ka-Bob”, “ala-King”. I can’t imagine trying to eat something that had become a pet but I guess Old Joe made the sacrifice to feed you. ❤

I LOVE the story of old Joe. I would love to hear more. I forget sometimes how the simplest of stories are some of the greatest. I remember laughing so hard as a kid as everyone would sit around around and tell stories just like this. Oh what wonderful days. Oh how I look back and realize how lucky I was to have such an amazing childhood. Looking back we didn't have much at all, but I never knew it. I was the happiest kid ever growing up in the 80's. Thanks for sharing Patty. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Always leave your channel with a smile on my face and my heart!

I like the idea of creating illustrated children's books using personal experience (names, events, all that). I will try to do that for my grandchildren -- for Christmas or their BDs. But yours is wonderful and I am sure such a book would be home not only in a family bookshelf but also as a reproduction in a real public library.

I liked the story until "old Joe" got eaten, but that reminded me of the cow that I felt was my pet. Then we were eating dinner and grandma said we were eating my cow!!! I said why and grandma said, I told you not to get attached to her!!! I cried a lot. This was down at my grandma's farm, forgot to tell you! So maybe we all have stories kind of like that!
