Dear ROBLOX Developers: STOP MAKING LORE DOCUMENTS!

environmental storytelling and stuff is much more effective and actually allows players to fill in the gaps with their headcanons

Lore documents should only be private information for developers to reference from, never revealing anything to the public.

Dunno how prevalent it is in Roblox these days but I think the worst mistake is when parts of the lore are inaccessible in the game and are only available in some random discord server or on a wiki. Tower Galactica was sort of guilty of this as well as we answered a lot of questions in the server which gave away a lot of information. If you're a developer, make sure all of the story is conveyed through character dialogue, cutscenes, designs etc. and don't respond to questions from people that would reveal the lore. Let people speculate.

the reason most of us, if not all of us love lores in games is that we like taking the gameplay elements, easter eggs, envoirmental hints and all the text we could scavenge and build our own theory around it, also finding pieces of lore in the actual game encourages longer playtime.

dude i’ve been saying a similar thing recently because i’ve noticed a big problem games that dont need need lore but add it anyway are so annoying and unnecessary i think you just need to add mediocre lore to your game to appeal to children now

The line “show not tell” fits very well here. Developers need to put the lore into the actual games and showing it off instead of just yapping

Maybe make a video on roblox games that do lore well, it could be a good example for roblox developers.

I notice you show the AO lore doc in the video, and I don't know much about the other games you mentioned, but it doesn't feel like the same thing as what you talked about in the video. I agree that for a standalone game, that lore should be revealed naturally in said game. But AO is a SEQUEL game. By the time you start learning about the lore of AO, you're expected to have already played, watched, or read AA. Very little of the info in the lore doc is actually unique to it, and most of it was revealed the *right* way in AA. To start AA, you hear vaguely about some scary evil wizard, but not much beyond that. As you go throughout the game, you see the effects of this villain: fighting zombie enemies, hearing NPCs talk about "wow, I heard some crazy wizard almost destroyed the whole world once, wonder if that's true," and learning bits and pieces from people who have memories from that long ago. You don't get a full breakdown until what was meant to be almost halfway through the game (before it broke, making it functionally the END of the game), and even that's pretty incomplete, only offering what would realistically be known. The rest of what's in the doc was already well on the way to being revealed ingame when AA broke, and only after that did the community learn the full story. The doc says practically nothing outside of this except for a few details that are mostly unnecessary or later additions. It says NOTHING about AO yet, and probably won't for a long time. The lore of AO, the new stuff that wasn't in the original game, is being told through 2 riddles, some NPC dialogue, a few visual choices, and occasionally ingame item descriptions. That's basically the exact thing you wanted, besides Elius' long explanation of Sea Curses, which even the dev agrees was a mistake.

Phightings lore currently is mostly all on the wiki, but the game is in alpha and a story mode is planned

I think the BEST thing about lore hunting is figuring out, I love looking learning the lore of the game *if* it's actually fun to find

Phighting has so many issues that arent the game and the games amazing, the community, the lore, various strange figures, and the lack of updates ect are very troublesome for me and many others.

On this note, it's also obviously fine to omit information in the story from the player, but for the love of god if the base game can't explain the setting of all things, there needs to be a restructure of how the lore is told.

Lore documents are quite bad, id rather make a full on in game book about it in universe perspective other than an authors perspective

Now, look. This might be random but honestly because of what you mentioned about the document thing. I don't know why but I personally feel that because of the secret bunker area in the classic, it would be cool or at least a wood of if there were white, hidden documents or something just some research files or something where it's like connecting details of the bunker and it's kind of left. A little open-ended yet. Text upon you know and it's about one x anded origins and the secrets of the facility

I liked this video a lot but I must say that, Probably Hellmet uses that way of lore because sensei was highly pressed into already make it playable and he made it stable enough and already released the game, they're updating it and maybe the lore won't be on doccument or more codes maybe on future updates and future missions.

another problem with these lore documents is that a lot of them are just confusing to read. i was trying to get into decaying winter and understand its story but it was so confusing and convoluted had just no idea what was going on. Also "Show, Don't Tell" developers!!!!!!

Environmental storytelling is like what fnaf does pretty much, and everyone absolutely loves fnaf lore, so these games need to keep up with that

half of the fun with games having lore is peicing it together in the first place. its why fnaf still exists. having a 400+ word lore doc where the large majority of the lore is instead of the game is just the same as reading a mascot horror game book but worse. and sometimes the lore just contradicts the game itself. like why is slingshot part of theifs den? every other character part of theifs den all have the same design details except sling. it would make more sense if sling was part of playground. why is sling in theifs den? then again i dont play sling so i probably missed a bunch of dialog explaining this but still.

I’m making a TD game and most of the lore is in the game I make lore documents for Secret Towers with Caesar Ciphers and Origins of the enemies. But this video was just yapping in my opinion about Lore Documents, Helmet is pretty boring tho with the lore.
