He's likely not _blaming_ the carriers, but what he is saying is so much of what goes into call Quality is entirely out of the hands of your device designer, or your device in general - in other words, no matter how good Samsung or Apple or anyone else makes their phone come at the end of the day the carrier network has to be up to the task or it's still going to sound just as bad as it does now.

I noticed a few months ago it depends on the signal processing in the phone. Me and my wife have the same tariff on EE in the UK, her phone is an iPhone SE and I have a Mate 20 Pro (I also have an iPhone SE but on Three as a work phone). In the same network signal as registered on our phones and same atmospheric conditions in the bedroom and around the house (and considering the house is full of concrete and steel bar walls, almost like a pseudo Faraday cage), my Mate 20 Pro connects and flies through RU-vid videos, Now TV live sports and streaming, websites and with excellent call quality whilst my wife’s SE is stuck buffering on everything and with call quality dropping off. I have no need for the 100Mbps Wi-Fi on my phone whilst my wife is wholly dependent on it even for Wi-Fi Calling. Huawei are renowned for having some of the best phone network and Wi-Fi signal processing in the world, they have built and are building network infrastructure for many countries, more recently even the 5G infrastructure in the UK (controversially). It does somewhat depend on the type of phone but with smartphones improving to cope with the ever improving speeds in 5G, it’s going to improve overall and fast.

Darth Raider you’re comparing a 4 year old phone to a 4 month old phone. Of course the call quality is going to be better on the mate 20 pro. I’d like to see you do the same quality test with the newer iPhone 11 and see if you notice a big difference then.

Voice quality and call performance overall are completely different things, codecs such as EVS which most new phones support, have ability to adapt to the RF conditions and can do a good job even in poor RF. VoLTE is a dedicated service with QoS guarantee that allows reliable voice calls when the device is able to connect to the IMS core. The call performances which is essentially how often the call connects or drops is depends on the network and phone's hardware and software. I think as a general rule for the future everyone must use VoWifi indoors because due to the complexity of the current carrier infrastructure everyone's network problems will never be solved.

The problem is with the network equipment not a phone issue🙄

My Lumia 730 has excellent call quality, I could hear the other person fine even if im in the middle of a noisy carnival. Sadly highend phones nowadays lack sound output from the earpiece for calls

Absolute agree. I don't want to be able to zoom in on random shit that's super far away (and even then, most of that stuff ends up as a blurry mess, nothing like as advertised), what I want out of my camera is to be able to take pictures at the aquarium without all the pictures turning out like blurry messes because the cameras can't handle a fish or seagrass moving slightly or full of glare because any light that doesn't perfectly recreate daylight is going to mess with the cameras' focus. I swear, the pictures I took with my Samsung Note 5 and Note 8 were better than what I've taken with my Note 10, even though the people at the phone store STRESSED how good the cameras and the software surrounding photos in the Note 10 were. I also hate how poor the mic quality is on phones too. Because of the cadence, tone, and pitch of my voice, things are never picked up correctly and I sound muffled even if other people sound okay. I've tried to record audio of my alto sax and it sounds TERRIBLE. Speakers in phones are only getting better and better, but mics and actual camera features that people want are getting left in the dust.

I never feel the difference. My phone doesn't have headphone jack so I keep usb c to 3.5mm plugged onto my headphone always. Since it also comes with fast changing, I never charge and use headphones. I don't even need to use my phone while it charges, as by the time I'm done eating, it's done. 😂

This is called planned obselemce and they are paying fines from judges for it. Making your phone work worse so you'll go buy another one is a terrible business practice and shady. They are finding other creative ways to do this now. You should entice consumers to buy new products by the features you have. Not making their phone not work after a time.
