I’m an ex paramedic, I worked for WMAS, and YAS for 20 years, I used to love my job, I would absolutely hate to be doing it now. Consecutive governments have weaponised the NHS over the years and have used it as a tool to goad the opposition, it’s a bloody disgrace.3 years ago people were clapping and banging pots and pans for these people, now they are abusing them, it’s bloody shameful.
Nice to see someone that knows the truth. A lot of Labour supporters will say "last ten years" differing Blair sold off the largest chunk of the NHS into privatisation in history. Left them reeling from £55 annually. Then Tories did little for ten years. Both a bit useless and I'm voting for neither next time. Going to try the Reform Party. Anyhow thanks for your service you provided.
This is why I'm scared now. I know that if something happens to a family member, it's better to go to the hospital ourselves but as to whether or not you will be seen, that is another question.
Yeah they keep cutting funding so they can privatize it. I have a private healthcare plan in the US and I have to wait a month minimum to see any kind of doctor. The disgusting level of greed is nauseating to me
@@paulinecabbed1271 I am using the numbers from the kingsfund site Home>Projects>The NHS in a nutshell second chart down NHS spending 115 to 158 billion
It’s got nothing to do with the ambulances it’s the fact there isn’t enough nhs staff to cope with the emergency’s. This government as hundreds of thousands of deaths on there heads and there still doing nothing and getting away with murder. If someone kills someone they go to prison the PM down should all stand trial for the people they have kills.
I witnessed someone in A&E collapsing on the floor and never made iAt that time. I’ve already been waiting eight hours. The staff were seriously overworked unfortunately for me I had to go back twice. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
As a medical student, I can say this isn’t uncommon. Waiting times exceed 17 hours for critical cases like heart attacks and the oncoming winter is terrifying staff.
They want us paying taxes like Norway, 40% off every penny we make after 45k and scraping our pockets to pay for US model medical insurance. Mugs we are, mugs.
Alton Nielo, good for you, trouble is not everyone can afford it. Healthcare is the biggest reason why ppl get bankrupt in the USA. US Healthcare is the worst, when it's comes to GDP to Healthcare outcomes, you get the worst of both worlds. Be very careful what you wish for.
@Roger Mellie no it isnt. If he had of suvivied he would have had serious brain damage with not breathing for 24mins. Its not good enough and comments like your suggest otherwise.
Lack of ambulance, lack of EMT crew, lack of hospitals, doctors, nurses, staffs.. This is going on for how many years? decades? Politics? Admin? Funding? 😒
The government has been warned for YEARS that the NHS was struggling to get staff and keep staff. Hospitals and ambulance stations, as well as police stations, have been shuttered. The government refuses to do anything because it’s not happening in London. It’s like being told “you’re going to crash”, but doing absolutely nothing about it. My heart breaks for this family and many other families going through this. The blame is squarely on the government for continuing to cut staff, cut hours and cut facilities to adequately treat the people who pay for this service from our taxes.
Junior doctor in ED here....people with UTI ,simple cuts, high blood sugar, cogh and cold. .....come to ED . ED is just a dumping site. These cases should not reach emergency ...system lacks mechanism to filter these out.
Maybe if nephrology & endocrinology appointments weren’t every 8 months. They wouldn’t be in the ED. I think you know very well how dangerous lactic acidosis is lad.
Untreated UTI's can be serious especially if you can't get a GP appointment to test your urine and prescribe antibiotics. Maybe there are some hypochondriacs out there but most people are genuine. You are Junior, and have a lot more to learn before being so dismissive of people. A while back I suffered a serious fall badly injuring my head, face & eye and the junior doctor dismissed me telling me 'you can't break your nose and if you become unconscious phone us up and let us know' You couldn't make it up!
@@noramartin96 i am not saying they should not be looked for....there must be quick opd service to be looked quickly and effectively....... emergency department should be for emergency situations
We already have ambulance delays. Before strikes. The previous Labour government had an impeccable record of ambulances arrival times and availability.
Things werent perfect , but they were much better and I cant help but thinking of this had happened under a Labour Gvt the press would have been shouting much louder before now !
Ambulance took 4 hours to get to mum then the paramedics went to get a stretcher and went off to another emergency! We then waited for a replacement ambulance to come from another county which took another 5 hours, then upon arriving at the hospital she had to wait another 2 hours in the parking area outside before they took her into the hospital. Luckily once in she was looked after but seriously, this could have gone the other way!
We had to wait over 3 hours with the ambulance eventually turning up at 3am. Once they did arrive they were very good but it was a very difficult stressful time. We were asked if we could get him to hospital ourselves but there was no way we could have moved him that far. If he had been able to walk I would have done but sadly at the time he was not
@Scooby1 I heard something even worse today a female in Wales was told no ambulances were available at all so she attached her grandfathers to a plank and into the back of a van and got him to hospital herself with the help of family.
Welcome to Tory Britain everybody!! There is only one group of people this problem lies with and that is the government. Each year cutting number of hospital beds for the sake of “efficiency” Not adequately funding social care with the result being bed blockers. People who are clinically fit enough to leave hospital but they cannot as social care is not adequate. Brexit - whatever your opinion this has reduced the number of medical staff in hospitals. An ageing population - admittedly not fault of government. All these things mean that hospitals have fewer beds. This means people cannot be discharged from A&E into wards. A&E is full meaning cannot accept patients from ambulances. Ambulances then have to wait outside hospitals and cannot be attending calls. Ambulance wait times go up. People die!!
I am shocked and disgusted. How can this country be in such a shite state? The whole Government is broken. I am 52, worked since the age if 16 never been unemployed paid taxes all my life. Where has all the money gone?
I appreciate them. They tried to save my mum's life when we lost her April 15th 2022 this year age 62 after a sudden cardiac arrest at home. They so brave and caring.
Such countries should be considered second-class, first World countries. Coz Norway and Switzerland don't have such poor systems and this should be globally recognised and known.
I didn’t call 999. I called the NHS phone line, the lady asked me about symptoms etc then told me which hospital to go, she told me to take a taxi. It was midnight, not that many people there and I managed to skip the queue. P.s I didn’t call 999 cause I thought I was fine but the NHS lady said I’m not, I had to go to A&E.
Yes the armaments kings are making zillions. Nothing has changed. We live in a sick world where building death machines is more profitable than peoples health.
so what is the answer to fixing the nhs? we have lost billions as a country... all on things that our country hasn't really gain apoon.... we just seem to be going on a downward spiral... if this is away of pushing more private health care on people... it's a pretty sick way of doing it...
forgive my ignorance concerning NHS but can't one just drive the patient in their car straight to hospital, or use a taxi, rather than wait 5 hours for an ambulance?
Problems is not understaffing, its too many protocols and staff have to follow them, and by doing that a 5 minute task takes 1 hour. Time has arrived that NHS and people have to understand that there need to be some flexibility in protocols to deliver timely health care rather than maintaining high standards without delivering any output.
Number of Cat 1 ambulance call-outs November 2020 (pre jab) …. 54,961 Number of Cat 1 ambulance call-outs November 2022 (post jab) … 81,655 … Since the roll-out tens of thousands more are being sick and dying than should be. The NHS is overwhelmed because of extraordinary, never-seen-before demand. Staff shortages and bed-blocking are perennial and being used as a smoke screen.
Several reasons . Inappropriate calls either by regular callers , people calling for problems when they could have made their own way to hospital or even received advice from a pharmacist , people calling because they cannot get help from the places they should be getting help from , overwhelmed GP services with not enough GPs limited appointments , overwhelmed Mental Health and Crisis Teams who have to cover themselves by asking an ambulance to check the patient out , an overwhelmed 111 system that plays safe by sending ambulances to check people over ( even if they dont want one or need to go to hospital - it covers the 111 system and passes the back to the ambulance service ) , more ambulance callouts for all of the above reasons and many of the callouts not being straight forward which involves ambulance staff having to make countless phone calls to sort the problem out either by trying to admit the patient to more appropriate units or contacting the service that should have dealt with the patient initially . If a patient doesnt want or need to go to hospital they still need checking out and documentation completing just in case things subsequently go wrong and the ambulance staff have to justify themselves in Coroner's Court ( despite not having the benefit of hindsight ) . This takes more time and increases what is known as the job cycle time . Increased sickness due to stress and things like Long Covid . Job vacancies that cant be filled , more people leaving to work more regular hours or going part time . Ambulance staff used to work on the front line on ambulances for 20 , 30 or even 40 years when there used to be some respite from calls in the early hours of the morning . Now it is rare for ambulances to be sat in stations or on standby waiting for calls as there are always jobs waiting so the work is more relentless and therefore people now and in the future will move onto other areas of work after a few years ( perhaps even as few as 2 years ) . There are more job opportunities , especially for Paramedics in other areas of work with more regular hours such as working in GP Surgeries doing the jobs that GPs used to do when we had enough GPs and carrying out home visits . Ambulances waiting longer at hospitals to hand over their patients because A and E departments are full because there are not enough hospital beds , because there are too many people who dont need to be inpatients but cannot be safely discharged because Social Care is on the verge of collapse caused by too few care staff in the Community and too few Care Homes . Social Care being mostly provided by the private sector which struggles to make the necessary profit to stay in business so therefore cannot or in some cases will not pay the staff enough to keep them despite them being Key Workers so there is a high turnover of staff . Of course people living longer and surviving illnesses that 20 years ago would have killed them so there are more elderly people who live with long term conditions and are susceptible to falls .( It is great that people are living longer ) . More people in the country but on balance immigrants work in alot of jobs in health and social care so are a net benefit to the system .Lastly of course there are people who dont try and keep themselves healthy and abuse their bodies or people who arent careful and have accidents who put pressure on the system .I could go on but I am sure you get the picture .
Wait a min!! Didn’t we vote leave EU for better NHS services? Haven’t they said they will invest thousand billions for the NHS to get more available resources? Brexit done years ago. So where all that money gone? Why shortage of staffs and resources now?
I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE AN AMBULANCE ON 3 OCCASIONS WITHIN 3 MINUTES, THANKFULLY I LIVE 5 & 10 MINUTES AWAY FROM BOTH MAJOR HOSPITALS. ON THE 1ST OCCASION IT WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF THE HEATWAVE & AFTER STABILISING MY BREATHING, I WAS PLACED BED TO BED ON A LONG CORRIDOR & WORST OF ALL THERE WASN'T A FAN OR AC IN SIGHT, NOR WERE WE OFFERED ANY WATER, FOR 13 HRS! HAD I NOT HAD 2 HANDHELD FANS IT WOULD'VE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY, THERE WEREN'T AT ANY POINT STAFF COMING TO CHECK ON US EITHER. BY THE TIME I WAS RE-ADMITTED FOR THE 2ND TIME IR WAS AT THE SECOND HOSPITAL & THE CARE & ATTENTION WAS SECONDARY TO NONE, FOR THE WHOLE 5 DAYS I COULDN'T HAVE RECEIVED BETTER TREATMENT THAN I DID THEN. My child has a febrile seizure within the last year and when we called and the ambulance team attended within 20 mins. Fortunately my boy had come around at that point but the whole service was incredible in what was the worst moment of my life. It’s sad this isn’t the case for everyone 😢
My 2 year old had a big febrile seizure and was completely grey. This was at 10pm at nite. Ambulance told me they cudnt get to us until 8am next morning and for me to drive her to the hospital myself.
@@KeepingTheFaith123 I’m really sorry to hear that. I hope your little one is well now. We live in a small town of around 50k so it might have helped with response times. It was also at about 11pm.
@@glenntaylor9144 it really scared me that if you or your children get ill then theres nobody there for you. It was so scary watching it coz she had never had a seizure before, I didnt know it was a febrile seizure. She fell to the ground and all her limbs were contracting and her temperature was 40 degrees, she was boiling to touch. Wen I told the doctor at the hospital that the ambulance wudnt come out she said, no, the ambulances are stretched to the limit and are not going to go out to somebody having a seizure wen theres people having heart attacks etc..she said for febrile seizures, just drive to the hospital theres no need to ring an ambulance. I was in shock. I cudnt believe it. That's wen I knew the NHS is really finished
As bad as this seems, you still have a have a much, much better health care system than we do in the U.S. At least everyone is covered and no one goes bankrupt trying to pay for medical care. Count your blessings.
No one gave us the NHS it was the first Labour government elected after WW11 that made it the national institution which for decades has kept our population fit. We all paid our National Insurance Contributions via our pay packets along with our taxes. The NHS was the envy of the World but through decades of Tory lies and corruption we see it all falling apart. BUT have no fear the unions and the public will fight to keep it alive .
If Karen was dying of cancer then she should be looked after at home, our mum died at home peacefully. Hospital is no place for a person dying of Cancer.
unfortunately it is not a simple as that. you can have an incurable cancer, but still be treated for many things in hospital - i.e. neutropenic sepsis following palliative chemotherapy. Recognition of being in the last hours or days of life is very different from having a prognosis of 6 months to live with an incurable illness, yet in both cases it could be considered dying.
@@thesaltbaron3029 Extend the person’s potential time on earth and improve their quality of life by reducing problems the cancer is causing. Just because a cancer isn’t curable doesn’t mean the person will die immediately, they may have many years to live with potentially a descent quality of life if they receive treatments. Cancer growth can cause severe pain, blocked bowels or other problems so treatments can shrink tumours pressing against organs, nerves etc thus reducing pain, improving breathing etc.
@@2wheelsforever174 yeah but what quality of life can you get spending 50% of your time in hospital being stabbed with needles & vomiting from chemo drugs
They're stuck in queues at the hospital - you couldn't make it up - we are the laughing stock of the world - going backwards - I cannot see a future anymore - as if things were not bad enough
not to be horrible or anything but this world is effed anyway sometimes i think people who died are lucky and it is tragic because of the stupid strike etc and taking 45 min for an ambulance to arrive absolutely disgraceful
With respect, this happens every day because of the number of ambulances called to spice users keeled over on the high street who reanimate within 20 minutes of crew arrival
They dont want to strike , but have reached a last resort . It isnt just about pay , it is about highlighting these problems . The Gvt and their allies in the press will be more than happy to demonise staff that have had enough and are at the end of their tether .Please dont come up with the usual answer of ' if they dont like it they can change jobs ' . That is what is happening putting even more strain on the system .
I waited two hours lying on the street, then the police came and threw me in the back of their van and took me to the bottom of my street and I had to walk home… I threw up in the back turns out I’m severely anaemic, I literally could barely walk.
