Robert Bloch is one hell of a writer. his descriptions of the circus were breathtaking - especially the trapeze act. it was more exciting than actually seeing one! and i can just see that elephant gleaming. and you read it all so darn well! you deserve an award ⚜️ thanks much. . . :)
Ooooo! This was a superb story by Bloch. I liked everything about it especially the history of Ganesh. He uses a lot of description to make you see the story. Thanks so much Ian for your work.
I got confused for a minute. 'Wait, Lovecraft describing an Indian/Asian woman as beautiful?' Forgot HorrorBabble does more than Lovecraft. 😁. Leela's wonderful description is a refreshing thing to hear.
What an incredible story! It felt like I was right there observing the whole Circus performance and I feared Leela like no other. Stunning storytelling Ian. I will probably dream about this tonight. Props to Mr. Bloch of course.
@@Anthropomorphic yeah he could have taken any of the goddesses from Tantric Deities, but not Ganesha Lol.. he's shown as the children's best friend in Indian pop culture, well I guess everyone has a dark side lol.
I’d be happy just seeing a white elephant. But I would be thrilled to attend this fine circus. All that talent turned to mush. Liked that one. Besides hyenas, rats, bats, and wolves, we don’t get to many evil animals. Bonus. Few snakes here and there also, I guess. Thank you, as always!
Thinking about this story, it’s interesting to note the influences on the young Bloch; while obviously a horror story, it also strongly shows the tropes of the “Oriental mystery” and “Eastern adventure” fiction of the period, suggesting that he was attempting to branch out while absorbing from pulps such as Spicy Stories, Oriental Stories, Top-Notch, and Thrilling Adventures.
@@MsAbhinaba In terms of YT, you'd have go and root around on a channel like Manfred Arcane or SwolllenGoat's AudioBook Archive, or go look up some of Robert E. Howard's adventure stories.
@@MsAbhinaba In terms of books, you might check out Sax Rohmer of Fu Manchu fame (his story “The Hand of the Mandarin Quong” comes to mind), as well as the anthology The Big Book of Adventure Stories (ed. Otto Penzler) which is filled with great fiction.
Well, it's taken me three days to get through this as I'm going through the 'colonialist Bstd, animal cruelty, disrespect of cultures' etc but it's my choice whether to listen or not. As it is, I have taken that this was written back in the day. I'm still on the side of The Goddess.... 🤔 🤣 Xxx 🙏🏼 ❤️ 🗺️ 🍀 🏴 Thanks for your work Xxx
