Their gasmasks hide how young they actually are because most Kriegsmen of the Death Korps are teenagers practically kids. So if you thought they look sinister with their masks on, imagine looking at a face so young but emotionless with cold dead eyes and willing to throw his life away for the God Emperor.
I just Realized that this may even be more German than before before when always thought WW1 And while the asthetics are WW1 and the tactics too The Young being ruthless does sound like the Hitler Youth, And the Volkssturm They have the same die For Cause attitude
@@nilsingvar7319 Soldiers in the Death Korps are not recruited. They're specifically bred for the Death Korps. They begin their military life right after birth, and deploy to combat around the age of 15.
@@praisethesun.praisedeussol6051 in WW1 pretty much every nation that took part had teenagers that would try (mostly successful) and get around the recruiters. In England it was known as "doing your bit".
"Brother Dodge!" *Boom* "Brother are you alright?!" "I have a f***ing hole in my chest. Why didn't you shoot the AT guy?!" "I thought you had him." "No!"
Lion El Jonson is the primarch of the Dark Angels and the first son. Azrael is the chapter master. They were the first legion and have been around since the unification of terra. When they were a legion they specialized in everything because they had to do everything. They’re pretty good and one of the most elite chapter, and do sort of function as a legion with their successor chapters.
@@kermitthefrog2578 he is, but i was mainly referring to 30k dark angels. 40k dark angels are still cool as hell, they do what they have to do, but dont glorify themselves, they fight for loyalty and loyalty is its own reward.
@@kermitthefrog2578 He is in a coma down in the catacombs of his chapter's HQ. Considering that his brother Primarch Gulliman recently woke up, after his 10,000 year coma, it's very possible that he will do it also. GW is progressing the main storyline a lot, in the last years.
(FYI, Primarch =/= chapter master. Only 20 primarchs have ever existed. New primarchs don't happen. Dante, azrael aren't primarchs. Just some lore clarification. Welcome btw to warhammer 40k!)
@@ZiGGi03 The zeroth primarch was The Angel, you can find it on the lexicanum. Though, to be fair, its more a kind of...proto-primarch and was about as unstable as end-stage Thunder Warriors were.
I absolutely love how SODAZ portrays Imperial Guard in general, they look and operate like an actual military squadron. People get so caught up in the memes of guardsmen constantly charging that they often forget that most guardsmen are fairly well trained soldier that if they were put on our world they would be considered the greatest fighting force in history. The problem is that everything else is so overpowered most of that coordination can be for nothing, the guardsmen are essentially a bunch of brown belts fight 4th degree blackbelts.
Person 1: Are the Death Korps of Krieg like an elite force? Person 2: No! Not in the slightest! Person 1: Then why are they so popular and always to be badasses? Person 2: Suicidal devotion?
They are a renewed regiment so i would call them elite honestly. Every person from their planet is indoctrinated. Everyone server the emperor no questions asked to pay back for their past. I dare say, they are pretty cool my dude.
@@nurgleschosen8145 They are very cool, but they don't defeat their enemies because they are more skilled or capable than other regiments (granted they are in their specialties of trench and siege warfare, but every regiment has their specialty). They defeat their enemies because more than any other regiment they are singlemindedly obsessed with the redemption of their planet with a debt that can only be paid in their own lives. The win by drowning their foes in bodies, then ordering a bombardment ontop of their own heads for good measure. They don't even bother giving their men names until they've survived long enough to rack up some battle honours.
Their casualties are atrocious, but I wouldn't say they arent Elite. Every soldier of the death korps is trained from as soon as they can hold a gun, they have as much training as any cadian, and arguably part of the reason why their casualties are so atrocious beyond their Suicidal Tendencies is that they specifically request the worst and most brutal Battlegrounds available. Dead Man Walking is an excellent book that shows how they're still Elite even despite their casualties
One of my favorite quotes about Kriegsman: "I was bred to fight and to die for Him. I shall face the Emperor’s enemies, therefore, without fear or doubt. I shall exchange this life He has granted me for the greatest possible advantage to Him. If I can only advance His cause in the slightest, then I shall consider my brief existence worthwhile. I shall do my duty - for what else is there, after all?’"
To learn about Krieg I recommend you either react or listen to Baldermort’s League of Lore video where he covers them, it breaks down the story of how Krieg came to be Another small note: Krieg was not a “Paradise” world (Good for them to as Paradise worlds are anything but for the common civilians living on it) it was a really economically powerful, and resource rich planet on the interior of the Imperium and by all accounts was a actually really good place to live by Warhammer standards, I will say no more but I wholeheartedly recommend you either read or listen to the story of Krieg
I've been catching up on baldermort lately and he had an intro to a vid I can't recall which, but it's stuck with me. Was a legion coming to a human world that has regressed to basically the era of the American Civil war. The astardis are about to launch a campaign to bring the world into toe, when a young marine steps forward and requests that he be given a picture box and take it to them. The way boldermort wrote and performed the scene gave me for lack of words the fuzzies.
@@LilNewo yo u remember that one but i find the Thunder Warrior's intro the best directly followed by Necrons vs Tyranids and the Necron Exterminators (i think) pretty good
"You have tanks, we have horses..." *almost... smug... Gasmask noises. ALMOST.* "...let's see who makes it out of this alive." *confused Gasmask noises*
Fun fact, the Kriegsmen are experts in trench and attrition warfare. Their home planet of Krieg is riddled by continent-spanning trench mazes, relics from the 500 year war after Jurten nuked the planet, and also where all the Kriegers live. In the Siege of Derondii, the DKoK were deployed on the towering mountain-range outside the city and started shelling it with Basilisk artillery, as well as surrounding the city with line after line of trooper-filled trenches to shoot down anyone trying to flee. After five years of bombing, the city offered their unconditional surrender to the Imperium. Three more years of bombing, and all signs of life within the city ceased. Two more years of bombing, and nothing was left but crumbled debris, ash and dust. And only then did the artillery stop firing. They also have a tendency to affix bayonets and charge enemy lines before the need to do so arises, so great is their need to die for the Emperor. That, and they also tend to continue shelling enemy positions with artillery fire EVEN WHEN THEY'RE ACTIVELY ADVANCING ON SAID POSITIONS. Friendly fire is an unknown concept to them.
Newcomer to the channel here. Spent all of the past two days binge-watching your 40k content. The enthusiasm with which you learn about this universe that is so dear to me is captivating. Can't wait to see more!
Trivia fact: Those are bomb lances, directional explosives with a compression detonation device (the lance head) to set it off. Effectively 6 hand grenades of force going off in a single frontal cone direction. Very funny stuff
@@dunmermage yeah i also liked the small decisions you can make in the game. It was very well done. I think the same developer who made the blackwell games also did Primordia although I'm not sure. I'm going to check.
Krieg was a nearly paradise world, an agricultural center if I remember correctly. And then the ruling class tried to split from the Imperium... Long story short, one thermonuclear war and 500 years of constant underground and overground warfare later, Krieg rejoined the Imperium. Now a death world, Krieg doesn't raise regiments. Krieg raises ARMIES! (Credits to He Who Must Not Be Named in the WH40k community).
'The Devastation of Baal' is one of my favourite Warhammer novels! I'd recommend reading Guy Haley's previous book 'Dante' first, if you haven't already.
The reason why the horses look weird is because they took a horse and said how can we make this thing into basically a bear. In the old lore they use to have Claws not hooves.
You only really need to worry about the Krieg'ers when they start asking "Are you my mummy?" >.> And that final chaos marine was a Khorne Beserker, they're no nonsense close combat focused murderhobo's. :D
Those are not normal horses, they can stand some bolt rounds and go on before collapsing, also kriegsmen just have a different mentality and disposition for self sacrifice and duty in the name of Mankind's future, they are not emotionless automatons but their history and present have shaped them into the most diligent and effective of guardmen. Krieg raises Armies not regiments. And they get shite done. Thanks for the Vid m8
I mean, there's a reason why Krieg is the most expensive army in 40k to collect considering all their units are Forgeworld 😂👍 Side note: Maybe if those Dark Angels advanced up the battle line once they saw those Black Legion traitors they wouldnt have been needed to be saved by guardsmen. Simply put, they have no Wulfs 🐺👍
well don't think those horses are normal they have near no reaction to anything are perfectly evolved for the task for example like clawed hoofs and like 2 layers of skin if I remember plus the mask is nearly a part of them
for a really good background lore video's you shoud look at the death corps of Krieg video by Arch. he does some amazing lore video's when it comes to 40K
Korps is the German version of corps, which is different from corpse. C/Korps is pronounced like CORE, not like a word to refer to a dead body. To use unitedstatesian terminology, it is pronounced "Army CORE of Engineers", not "Army CORPSE of engineers" when it is spelled "Army Corps of Engineers" I have strong feelings about this because of an intense stupid argument of definitions I had with my best friend when we were kids and Blast Corps was released for the n64. YOU ARE NOT BLOWING UP DEAD BODIES WTFSTFU!
Just two small points, 3:38 The Brother in Astartes dodged the missle, admittedly probably the only time any marines dodged in all of 40k lore, but it's been done once. Quick Kreig summary, Kreig was a nice well fortified planet far from the front whose rulers decided they didn't want to pay their tithes anymore and rebelled against the Imperium, when it became clear the cavalry wasn't coming the local Imperial Guard commander Colonel Jurten decided the best course of action was full nuclear bombardment, this led to 500 years of full atomic and trench war, when Kreig rejoined the Imperium it's collective sense of guilt over failing Big E has led their Guard regiments to be driven to near suicidal (or genocidal) extremes to gain atonement. To give you an idea Commissars in most regiments are their to instil bravery and disapline, among the Kreig they are their to instil common sense and provide a liaison with other guard forces who are a little off put by the intense gas mask wearing weirdos who smell faintly of cordite (Batman Bane Comaprrison was a good one here, excellent impression btw) If you fancy some edge content Majorkill has a video on them too.
4:27 Note that Krieg horses are massively genetically modified to the point that they can take bolter shots and keep going for hundreds of meters. Also, Death Riders wear carapace armour which provides better protection than standard flak armour. Not to mention a cavalry charge is still pretty terrifying
The Krieg are one of the few Guardsmen regiments crazy (and suicidal) enough to charge into their own artillery fire and also charge a Khornate Berserker.
Regarding 3D Warhammer 40k, ZoranTheBear of the WarHams team (spinoff series of If The Emperor Had A Text To Speech Device) often mentions that he's looking to commission 3D artists. Might be worth a look. If you reach out to him, tell him Nascent sent you!
assigned to any planet with kreig instantly lowers morale for other guard units since they all know the kreig volunteer for the most suicidal of campaigns
Azrael is the Chapter master. not the Primarch just a small correction there. the Primarch are the gene fathers. Chapter masters are not them :D like Salamanders ALL of them including the Chapter masters of the same gene seed are the sons of Vulkan the Primarch. for the Dark Angels its Lion El'Jonson etc.
Horses...yes. Horses so genetically modified that they're more like mother grizzly bears on steroids who's young currently have some dumbass gushing over how cute they are. There's a reason Death Riders are a straight up assault regiment instead of just a skirmish unit like the Attilans.
Also note that krieg isn't a paradise world. Its a paradise world to 40k fans, those are called war worlds. Kreig is the leading example of good war worlds, entirely dedicated to creating arms, soldiers and war machines. And in huge quantities
