Besides Brad Dourif playing Chucky. This is his second best villain in his career. Dude didn't get the respect he should have in Hollywood. Played a great psychopath no matter what he played in.

I had the pleasure of visiting the set at Pinewood and interview the creature fx guys. Years later I became friends with the amazing Bill Hootkins through my radio work...so sad he passed away far too soon. This was a great movie, and the creature fx guys later went on to lead the work on Farscape and many other great sci-fi to shows and movies.

Interesting to see Richard Brake here. He's probably more familiar today as Joe Chill from Batman Begins, the murderer of the Waynes. He's also the Night's King in Game of Thrones. That scene of him and Brad Dourif spitting was hilarious.

It does make you wonder what TF goes threw the minds of studio execs sometimes. Like I keep wondering who was the coked out asshole that thought adding that horrible POS CG scene of the monster at the end of The Thing (2011) was a great idea when it had all the potential to measure up to The Thing (1982). Like I would truly love to know who okayed those decisions so I could keep an eye out for them so I could kick them in the nuts if I ever came across them. Oh yeah, and to ask him what drugs he was on at the time to ruin what could have been an amazing movie. And then I'd kick him in the balls one more time, so hard I'd break my leg (it'd absolutely be worth it).
@VerdeMorte
@VerdeMorte 3 года назад
@@dsandoval9396 That entire movie's practical effects scenes were literally thrown out after spending millions on them, not just a single scene, but ALL OF THEM. Not sure who was acting Exec at the time, but pretty sure he faced some kind of jail sentence for destroying the footage against director's wishes before the movie was altered & bombed.

THIS is the most 90's movie ever made. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the scope, the script, the depth of some of the main characters and how well realized this nightmare corporate tech company building was. Of course it could've definitely benefited from some cuts and a bigger budget. Their were some sequences that were very well done with the animatronics, and whatever puppet they used was always done well within the scale of the other actors on-set. The lighting was well done and it explored some concepts I've never really seen done. It was however, a shameless "borrower" of many cliches, but it did have at least one pretty compelling villain orchestrating the whole thing. It was nice to see some acting chops on "most" of the main characters, though the ending is a bit anti-climactic. Its also two hours long and somehow doesn't feel like its two hours long *edit* I didn't realize I was clearly watching the directors cut and it is the version I would recommend watching.

Honestly this movie is awesome. All actors are good, effects still hold up, some cheesy sound effects here and there but I believe that was intentional, just like the callbacks to other movies like Terminator, Aliens, etc. And of course, Brad Dourif is the cherry on top.

Very good review! This movie looks awesome and very funny! I have to watch it! I'm from Germany, and this is one of the rare cases, that a violent movie was in my country released uncut, but not in the U.S. Mostly it is the other way around. Many violent action- and horror-movies are only released cut in Germany, because the uncut versions were indexed or even seized. Our authorities are not really tolerant to movies. :( But thank God for the internet! :D And for Austria, our also german-speaking neighbour country, which doesn't have that problem! We import the most uncut DVDs from there. PS: Sorry for my bad English. I'm still learning.

Quick fun facts: David S. Goyer and Stephen Norrington worked togther on Blade. They apparently didn't like each other or rather Norrington always put Goyer down. Wonder how true that is since Brad Dourif's "Agent of Chaos" monologue is strikingly similar to Heath Ledger's Joker in "The Dark Knight", which was written by Goyer. Also, Brad Dourif was supposedly Tim Burton's first choice to play the Joker in 1989 Batman.

Great review! This is one of my favorite films, it's always nice to hear people talk about it. Fun fact: you think the US dvd release is bad? A French dub was released on VHS in Canada, and it somehow managed to be ten times as worse. I bought a copy of it for fun a few years ago, and pretty much every scene that isn't an action scene is missing! Dante doesn't even get an introduction with Cale; he just randomly shows up and kills Ridley. It's the weirdest thing. Read that Hardware was one of your personal faves, i hope to see you talk about it soon! I first heard about it because Death Machine kept getting compared to it, and laughed a lot when i recognized Hootkins as the gross neighboor, haha.

@@GoodBadFlicks she is for sure. I kinda wish there were a streaming service for all of these movies with that particular...."charm" that you highlight well. Im finding some of it really inconvenient to see.
