Floor and Marko have done Christmas songs . They did Ave Maria together. Floor did Oh Holy Night, but the title is in Finnish.I guess in Finland they do a metal Christmas Concert. Maybe one of the Finnish fans can help you more. I am glad you both liked this song.......... :-)
Nightwish did a cover of Walking in the Air from The Snowman. "Meadows of Heaven" is also very Christmas-y. Glad you liked this one! I get the feeling you'll like Slaying The Dreamer from the same concert.
I really liked it when the girl said "it's dramatic in a good way" yes Nightwish has much influence of fantasy and stuff. Also, I'm glad that someone who is not familiar with the genre has given an opportunity to listen to this amazing band. Thanks for sharing it!
Another of Tuomas Holopainen (keyboard, composer, and yes composer is the right word as you will see in some other more epic videos) influences is Hans Zimmer which may explain the hero/adventure feel to Nightwish' music. I mentioned it in the last video, but you should check out The Greatest Show on Earth. It's not an experience I can accurately put into words. It doesn't have the thrashy feel that you like from NW but it's more about the performance and the composition as a whole, i feel it will really impress you even if it isn't necessarily the type of metal you like. If you are a lover of science, then the song will absolutely impress you.
I think you would like Weak Fantasy (Tampere). You may also like Ghost River (Wacken). They have a new album coming out spring 2020, and I'm hoping they'll have some heavier stuff on it. Whatever you do, stay away from Ghost Love Score, Elan, Nemo, Ever Dream...too soft for you, I think. Some of the middle of the road heavy I like from them is Storytime (Wacken), 7 Days to the Wolves(Wembley), Last Ride of the Day, Shudder Before the Beautiful (Wembley). I honestly don't know if you'd like those. I love it, they write great music.I quite like the mix of the heavy and melodic. Thanks for reacting!
Nightwish doesn't have a Chistmas Album, but some of them like Marco and Floor are involved in 'Raskasta Joulua' (Heavy Christmas) that has been going on in Finland for 15 years now (15th year celebration concert in a month!!!), but it's at least half in Finnish. They've made like 5 albums with that, numerous metal singers (mainly from Finland) have been involved, but alike e.g. Lee Snyder, Joe Lynn Tyler and Elize Ryd have been there too. Here's Ave Maria by Marco and Floor, not the heaviest one, but beautiful (and Marco singing in Finnish): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cMtKG8hRNL4.html Here's The First Christmas by Marco (recorded version, alike in Finnish): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-50MvvFEUsOc.html Here's O Holy Night by Floor (in Finnish): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ym1Wc5dmUYc.html And one of the most loved Finnish Christmas songs in Finland (in Finnish), by Marco: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7EB-hYPlkjI.html
Tuomas Holopainen the composer and keys player has a whole Christmas kind of album. Its called 'Music inspired by the life and times of Scrooge'. Play that in the shop. Also Nightwish do a great version of the Christmas classic 'Walking in the air' with their first singer Tarja.
No Christmas album, but Toumas's solo album is "Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" and is EXACTLY the album you need for work. It's got sleigh bells on it too.
I think "yours is an empty hope" or "romanticide" wouldve been better for her(i know youve done those already.. but for Alexa) slaying the dreamer(same concert) or weak fantasy(tampere) would also of been better... this track isnt bad though.. i seen so many recommend it to you.. true its on the heavier side for NW.. probably why nice to see neither of you hated it though.. lag is no bother
Damien, is that a fork I see in your beard? This was a very old song from Nightwish. They used to write more in a fantasy mythological style. Also tended to write in faster tempos. Floor and Marco from Nightwish both perform along with a bunch of other musicians in a group referred to as Raskasta Joulua (Finnish for heavy Christmas) where they perform an entire set of metal Christmas songs. It happens every year in Finland and begins in late November through middle of December. It is pretty cool, but don't expect too much aggression in these songs.
Seeing you with Alexa made me think that your TV-campaign for getting into a relationship really paid off, lol. Also, thank you two for doing this. Greetings from Finland. P.S. In the band's official biography Tuomas Holopainen (their main composer/keyboardist) does not mention Metallica having influenced his songwriting/composing. In fact he is mostly influenced by film music & Hans Zimmer is his biggest idol. However, he does mention these bands as having influenced him: "Children of Bodom", "Theatre of Tragedy", "The Gathering", "My Dying Bride", "Tiamat" and "The 3rd and the Mortal".
Nightwish may not have a Christmas album, but Nightwish's original singer, Tarja Turunen has a Christmas album. Check out the album "From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas)" by Tarja.
God, she's beautiful! I mean you both are, but Alexa... phew! Nightwish doesn't have any Christmas songs itself but Marco the bassist and Floor the singer has. Here's is some footage from Heavy Christmas Tour: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cMtKG8hRNL4.html
Also.... "Now I'm NOT ready" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 As far as the MEGADETH comment is concerned, I think the Marco parts in the beginning might reminded her of "Sweating Bullets"
Nightwish has made a cover of song Walking in the Air. Tarja sings here, not Floor Jansen so its filmed before 2005. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9icKP1b44TA.html This is maybe not familiar Christmas Song in US. Wiki says: "Walking in the Air" is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film of Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book The Snowman. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television.[1] The story relates the fleeting adventures of a young boy and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. "Walking in the Air" is the theme for the journey. They attend a party of snowmen, at which the boy seems to be the only human until they meet Father Christmas with his reindeer, and the boy is given a scarf with a snowman pattern. In the film, the song was performed by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty,[2] and reissued in 1985 (on Stiff Records) and 1987.
Nice reaction! On christmas songs/album by Nightwish, there is one classic xmas cover track called "Walking in the Air" from album "Oceanborn" (1998). Here's excellent live version for you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9icKP1b44TA.html On that note, in Finland we have this yearly Xmas tradition concert tour called "Raskasta Joulua" ("Heavy Christmas"), which has numerous leading rock vocalists mainly from Finland gathering and singing christmas songs separately/together. Nightwish's Floor Jansen has participated in "Raskasta Joulua" tour in previous years along with bassist Marco Hietala. This year they will perform once again. Here's two live performances with links from previous "Raskasta Joulua" concerts, including another take on "Walking in the Air" by ex-Nightwish lead vocalist Tarja Turunun: 1) Tarja Turunen - Walking in the Air (Live in Finland 2018): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8ibkn-4Xlhc.html 2) Floor Jansen - Oi Jouluyö ("O' Holy Night", Live in Finland 2017): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ym1Wc5dmUYc.html Merry forthcoming christmas for both of you + greetings from Finland! :)
I haven't listened to this song yet. But for you, I'll watch a reaction to it. haha. Pretty cool, but I concur with Alexa. OMG a Nightwish Christmas album would be epic haha. "I'm dreaming of a white christmaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaa-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!!!!!!!!"
Marco's vocals sound a bit like Megadeth, now that you say it 😮 it's because he was singing with a little to no melody, to match the original version of the song, that had growls. It was done by Tapio Wilska.
Floor sing O holy night in a different language she is pregnant about 6months. The other one is Marco and Floor doing Ava Maria and also Marco and Tarja sing it also. If you like classical Christmas songs you should listen to Tarja's version of both these songs.
They are death metal listeners, they are looking for the driving guitar riffs and double bass pedal work of the drummer. Not whether Floor hit a certain note on that last note or that she has incredible ability to go from chest voice to head voice to growling effortlessly.. I'm sure they appreciate the talent of Marco and Floor bur that won't be what they focus on. Nightwish has a few thrash metal worthy tunes for them.
Great reaction, enjoyed watching it. How about you two check out Slaying The Dreamer from NW, live in Buenos Aires? I love it,can really hear the Metallica vibe there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wA44tjaP5n0.html. PS. Would be cool to see your cat, ask him to drop by again..
here are a few xmass songs with Floor and Marko, not the best ones but just gonna leave em here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pvcjxEE4dqg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tXbdFF-0-9c.html
This was from their power metal era. Metal fans who cant stand power metal probably cant stand Nigjtwish either LoL. I like things from classical to death metal but i cant really get black metal etc. it feels like pure noise musically not much unlike rap. Metal for me was always melodic, Megadeth, priest, testament, maiden etc.
I have 2 song suggestions for you I think you might actually like as far as black metal is concerned... Dissection "Where Dead Angels Lie", and Mirrorthrone "No One By My Side". They are very melodic compositions. Let me know your thoughts on them.
@@TheMoralMisanthrope First one i didn't really like, felt like 30 second bridge in a death metal song that took 5 minutes, second i liked but bit too monotonic for 7 minute song which is expected. Thanks for suggestion, ill try listening more of mirrorthrone.
I tried...I really tried...to get through the whole song without skipping to the pause/reaction sections. Couldn't do it. Objectively speaking, they're an immensely talented band. Subjectively speaking, they sound like a Disney-on-ice opera ensemble that makes me feel as though I'm being stabbed in the ear with a pencil.
I just don't get this whole Nightwish thing. It's like a play about metal. So overproduced and lacking any "soul" (for lack of a better word). Glad it gets eyes on your channel though!
