@@zimmercj the problems I've heard about it come from the fact that they made changes which is the nature of an adaptation to tell a different version of the story if you want the original watch the original or the Japanese movies or hell even this
Sonic Roarin Waters: The problem I personally had with it was that all of the changes were bad. But I’d recommend that you watch it and decide for yourself.
Also I love Misa’s part in this song, like she just goes on this huge speech about how she loves Light and how she wrote a song for him and he completely ignores her because he’s too focused on L and honestly if that doesn’t sum up Death Note I don’t know what will
ʇɹɐǝɥ ɐɹʇɔǝןǝ Not really, she’s actually just blinded by love, but you know what, people don’t even try to analyze her character. So yeah, she’s great, fuck Takada.
Don’t get me wrong, Misa’s an actually very interesting character, but both the musical, anime, and manga did a terrible job of portraying her. She has,,, so much potential,,, to be so very intriguing. Especially once you dig in past her infatuation with Light, or WHY she’s so infatuated with him. But that’s just my opinion
@ThatLilMarshmallow •w• Sounds more like "if we keep it vague enough we don't actually have to give answers and just let the readers interpret into it whatever they want."
L and light are hot in the anime as well. Especially L in my opinion. L is my favorite character. I was DESTROYED when he died. My mom said I cried so bad she thought someone I actually knew died. I do feel like I actually know L though.
It's really interesting that L always gets the higher parts in the duets between L and Kira. It seems to suggest that he has the moral high ground and is the hero, despite being the antagonist.
Nemnyoom well that depends on how you look at it, some people see light as the hero since he is killing bad guys and the show is based on the controversy of whether killing is justified if it is for “the better good” and who gets to decided that. (Tho I personally agree with L)
Someone pitched the idea of L being autistic, I mean, it explains a lot. Maybe he also has savant syndrome? (anyone else watching good doctor or just me - _ -)
@@gigik_ it’s funny their monologues are like light: “he’s dropping hints about himself now! if i ask about him, does it seem as if im kira because im fishing for info?!?? or if i don’t ask then hell think im afraid of seeming suspicious and therefore kira????? how do i lower his suspicion of me” l: “if he asks me if im british he’s 100% kira”
@@IngenuousSoprano Concept album L is the most changed character from the anime. He's still cool and analytical but he's very passionate instead of having his bored attitude
The chase is just so fun and interesting for him and he wants to be right but if he is right it’ll be the end BUT HE WANTS IT TO END cuz lights a criminal but if he catches the criminal-
This is actually not the tennis scene. it's when they meet for the first time at the students ceremony and both sit down after their speeches. They use almost the exact same words in the anime like what's he playing at telling me his name .
Luv2beLuuved I’ve seen part of the play, I know it’s during the tennis scene, but it looks like they mixed some dialogue from another scene and put it during their match.
@@unfortunatetiming4169 I've seen it too. Loved it. Hmm it is possible its been awhile since I last saw it. But I do know these lines echo the anime word for word when they are in the student hall after they do their speeches and sit down next to eachother. They are the Exact Same words in the anime and manga. I do believe the tennis scene is however shortly after that scene after they just meet eachother in person for the first person. Makes me want to rewatch the anime again.
[L] Each time I challenge, he responds He takes the bait as if he's taunting me He waves a hundred magic wands And soon a hundred men just cease to be I haven't figured out just how He doesn't kill them with a knife or gun But if you ask me here and now I'm pretty sure that Kira is your son [Light] I wonder, is this guy for real? I wonder, is he who he claims to be? And if he is, then what's the deal? Why would he make a point of telling me? [L] He doesn't rattle easily He's such a calm and cool collected guy And if he kills while he's with me Like it or not, I am his alibi [L and Light] All or nothing, so let's get to it This time's stalemate, but just you wait Clock is ticking, so let's just do it Let's begin, thick or thin, lose or win This is it [Light] His name is obviously a fake So he inoculates himself from me He's waiting for my first mistake So I'll wait also, but more patiently [L] Just like two actors on a stage Go through the motions that we both rehearsed Our little new atomic age Eyeball to eyeball, we'll see who blinks first [L and Light] All or nothing, so let's get to it This time's stalemate, but just you wait Clock is ticking, so let's just do it No taboos, light the fuse, win or lose This is it [Misa] I know you're gonna love my brand new song It's full of private little hidden clues So we can find each other in a crowd And when we do, you know I'm yours to use I feel like we were born for just one thing I know we're gonna be a perfect fit You'll be my heart and I will be your eyes It's me and you forever This is it [L and Light] All or nothing, so let's get to it This time's stalemate, but just you wait Clock is ticking so let's just do it [L] Let's begin [Light] Light the fuse [L] Go all in [Light] Win or lose [L] Lose or win [L and Light] This is it!
"Just like two actors on a stage" I can't believe L is so determined to break the forth wall... we also had "it's like I'm hitting all my marks, as if I'm acting in a play" in the "the way it ends" one, and I have just discovered this musical, so who knows how many more times he's done it...
Bruh. When I found out Death Note had a musical I literally couldn't stop obsessing, and still can't, but when. I found out Jeremy Jordon was the singer behind Light Yagami I HAD A HEART ATTACK... no pun intended.
my friend showed me where is the justice and i about had a heart attack as well when i found out jeremy jordan was playing an anime character-it’s the reason i watched death note
Me right now like I I already lose my god damn marbles over any musical but when I heard JEREMY JORDAN WAS LIGHT??? I knew I was never gonna find peace
The part where Misa comes in always gives me chills. She's trying so hard to be heard and help the person she loves even if he never showed signs of caring, she is doing everything for him.
I like how the end of the song actually foreshadows the end of the musical. “Win or lose” by Light, “lose or win” by L - Light thought he’d won against L when L dies, but then L ends up winning as Light is revealed and dies as well. Finally the end of the two’s “Stalemate”.
The absolute GENIUS of Frank Wildhorn to put together two vocal powerhouses like Jeremy Jordan and Jarrod Spector in the lead roles. The man is criminally underrated and must be pretty good to work with, considering how many of his collaborators end up coming back for other projects.
For some reason when Light’s singer says, “I wonder is this guy for real’ I just- Something about it is just amazing! It’s not very special at all, but, y’know
Their back and forth is just so entertaining. And Light just completely ignoring Misa simping over him because he's too obsessed with L is just perfect.
My greatest gratitude to Frank Wildhorn's son who has convinced him to do this project because "This will be the coolest thing you (Wildhorn) ever done." He's not wrong
WAIT, FRANK WILDHORN'S DIRECT SON??? GRAHHH, I adore the work Frank Wildhorn himself did for The Scarlet Pimpernel so to know that his son helped with this musical makes me SO happy
yeah im thinking its cause L has the moral high ground (even as the antagonist because hes a hero). light tends to have higher notes until he sings with L, who takes the higher notes
Yeah, but they only harmonize in one line per chorus, instead of the whole thing. Goes to show that even if L's objective is more moral than Light's, they're both the same.
It upsets me greatly that this entire playlist is on spotify but I cannot play any of the songs. I AM BEING DEPRIVED OF ART AND I WONT STAND FOR IT!!!!!!
I know I’m spelling out the obvious here but I LOVE the “atomic age” line, it really hammers home how tense and charged their stalemate is. One wrong move would result in total annihilation so neither of them can afford to mess up or falter, which is a lovely parallel to how precarious the situation was (and still is) with nuclear warfare.
...Varian. Light's voice reminds me so much of Varian, I wonder... *One Google later* OMG it IS Varian! I can't believe it, that's awesome. Love his voice. You go, Jeremy!
"Just like 2 actors on a stage." L still believes he has control of the situation at this point and, to an extent, he does. He knows that he and light are both playing parts to win each other's trust. Then, "It's like I'm hitting all my marks, as if I'm acting in a play, so out of character, yet somehow not a shock." From the very beginning until the bitter end, L has been putting on a front for Light, but when Light finally wins, he realizes he's still not himself, but now he no longer has control of who he is. He's so far removed from who he was in the beginning that everything Light makes him do with the death note is expected and accepted by him. He knows he's not himself anymore. Or none of this means anything to anyone but me, that could also be a possibility.
As someone who can’t piece any of this stuff together to save my own life (I’m lacking in intelligence, what can I say?), this was really interesting to read! It’s so clever, the language that has been worked into the lyrics of these songs and how they connect with each other, and the way you’ve explained everything paints a clear picture of how it all comes together!
yes!!!! this makes SO much sense!!!! being one of the actors means that you are not merely watching the spectacle from the crowd, a passive observer, but that you are participating in it yourself. and L is shown here acknowledging his part as a participant, far from his initial role as the silent force in the darkness analyzing those bits of data. now hes up on the stage with light, and the spotlights are on both of them. unfortunately for him, this is kira’s production he may not be a killer like kira, but he has certainly started to sing a very similar tune hasnt he?
Chlo H. i can’t find it but i remember one of the creators saying on instagram or twitter that they’re planning on bringing it to the west is 2020?? don’t quote me on that tho. also when someone asked if they would bring it to london, ivan menchell said that it was the plan so.... might be happening lol
1. This song is amazing, 2. The singers' voices are phenomenal, and 3. It's so sad when Misa sings, "You'll be my heart, I'll be your eyes," because by then, Light has no heart.
"You'll be my heart and I will be your eyes" It's pretty ironic that this part shows how they are indeed not a perfect fit. Light is heartless when it comes to Misa. So he is a bad heart. And Misa is pretty blind to the fact that kira/Light doesn't care about her at all. So she is bad eyes.
this and playing his game bru, and so many other songs in the musical. but ppl on tiktok piss me off so much because they only know where is the justice and then act like they know every single thing about the musical/death note smh
Oh I have. I've listened to the whole album on repeat. I love "where is the justice" too, but I'm a big fan of L-Light duets. "Secrets and Lies" has probably eclipsed "Stalemate" for me by now.
"he doesn't kill them with a knife or a gun but if you ask me here and now... i'm pretty sure that kira is your SON" he's already going to die, l, you didn't have to kill him like that lmfao
absolutely my favourite song in the soundtrack. I love this entire soundtrack, such a beautiful masterpiece. i need this to become an actual musical. I love it so much.
My sister introduced me to the series and I absolutely loved it. I was mostly interested in it because I learned that it was a musical and that Jeremy Jordan was singing as Light. But I never really truly got the concept of the story until I started watching it. Last night my sister and I started watching the musical and we just absolutely love it so far. My favorite songs are this one, Where Is The Justice, and Hurricane.
I think it is more operating under the assumption that Kira could kill just by thinking it, or something L couldn't see even being with him. So if L can't trap Light and confirm he's Kira, and people continue to die, then L being with him constantly would be an alibi which would seem to clear him.
i love L doing the high harmonies because it feels like it represents his underlying intensity. when kira showed up, suddenly L lived for the challenge. Light sees this as a game in which his victory is sealed, but L knows he has to fight for it and he's excited about it
I knew Light’s voice sounded familiar and once I watched Tangled the series again and looked up the actor, I was squealing! I really love Jeremy Jordan’s voice! And I love how Light and L’s voices are in perfect sinc and it makes their duets soooo amazing!!
*"Clock is ticking so, let's just do it."* That line doesn't sound like it belongs in a battle of wits, it sounds more like two awkward couples on a failing date throwing their hands in the air and saying "screw it! let's just have sex!!!"
At 1:53, I imagine the staging being Light and L raised on two columns in red and blue lighting as a nod to the anime, and Misa appears in the middle bathed in white light to deliver her solo. Anyone else?
It's kind of like that in the musical's stage performance too. Misa is up on a bridge in between Light and L while those two are just singing and weirdly staring at each other lol
I am having the DAMNDEST time getting my brain to separate this from Playing His Game hah I keep wanting to put one song's chorus with the other's verses. Guess I just need to listen to both another hundred times.
I haven’t actually seen death note, but dang this is a banger; if Light wasn’t a seriel killer, I could totally see this being a rivals to lovers story. Edit: Misa honey I think the dude you wrote the song for is gay….and also insane like prolly not the best guy to date
Long story short : Light finds a notebook that he can write someone’s name in it and it will kill them. He kills hundreds of people so a detective named L looks into the case. L knows Light is the killer but he cannot convince the rest of the police group due to not having enough evidence. It’s basically Light trying to figure out L’s real name before L can convict him.
