My dad worked at Epcot and my parents lived within walking distance of what is now Disney Springs, when it first opened I was there, and my mom’s favorite ride in the parks was Its a Small World. I can remember when Checkers opened at Old Town and how excited my mom was because she loved their fries 🍟. So to all the Disney hater’s who diminish these documents for history, to me these are priceless and thanks to Adam for keeping the memories alive!!
I think Disney needs to build a museum So we can all learn the history of all these Disney legends. They can build it not in the parks but maybe in Disney Springs
There is actually a Disney Museum in the Presidio of San Francisco- Adam did a video there. But it would be awesome if the WDW Resort property in FL could have one too!!
Richard M Sherman we miss you and Thank You for ALL the songwriting you and you brother Robert B Sherman did, So MANY great Disney songs including my favorite Disney animation movie The Jungle Book. Thank you Adam for doing this video and showing the much deserved respect Richard M Sherman is due.
Absolutely love the original attractions of Carousel of Progress, Small World, People Mover & Tiki Room. Never tire of them & hope they’re never dumb enough to ever get rid of them. They are Disney Treasures! Love your video content especially lately. Keep it up! Love your mom visits too.
They should put statues of the Sherman Brothers at a piano in both the Fla and the Ca parks. Their songs helped to immortalize the Disney brand just as much as the movies did. Thanks for commemorating the last Sherman brother. This was a very interesting video.
My father was one of the Ironworkers who helped build the UNISPHERE at the Worlds Fair,,,,,We were all excited when finished and that they never tore it down, 🙏🏽❤️
I remember having a little record player and having all the Disney music on yellow vinyl records....sang and danced for hours to the Sherman Brothers music. When ever I hear their music today, I'm transported to my preteens! Thank you for this tribute!
Really lovely to respect the amazing contribution the Sherman Brothers made to Disney films. What a legacy, to leave behind such an impressive catalog of wonderful songs ❤
Happy that you got to meet Lily from You Tube (Lily’s life)! You brought even more history to us today with information about things we most of us never knew.
Thank you Adam for bringing back a precious memory. i just turned 59 and your coverage on that song brought back memories of my daddy bouncing me on his knees when I was a little girl and singing with me, It;s a small World, I grew up with all the cartoon classics, and the other classics, like Herbie the Luv Bug. Yet, never once been to Disney World, LOL! We have lots here to be thankful for in beautiful North Carolina mountains!🥰
I can't properly express how much the Sherman Brothers music means to me, from my fondest childhood memories and throughout my entire life. I'm glad ATW gets it. Thank you Adam. I truly believe Dick and Bob Sherman are back up in heaven today, singing songs for the angels, and Walt.
Great video Adam. So much history I learned just watching. Very informing. Mary Poppins is one of my favorites as well as Carousel of Progress. Thanks for the history lesson
Great video Adam! I can tell you put a lot of your heart into this one. Rest in Peace Sherman Brothers and Walt and Roy. You all created the soundtrack and the color and magic of our childhood and it still goes on today and for all time.
Thanks for sharing that trip with us. It's great seeing Disney World again. I really need to get back. And RIP to the great Richard Sherman. His memory will endure in the timeless songs he created.
I didn't even know Richard Sherman passed away yesterday. Thank you, Adam Woo for doing this video. Tomorrowland has one or two of their songs in it. ❤
Im a long-time DVC owner and Disney lover and appreciate your Disney knowledge and love hearing it. The Sherman Brother’s passing is definitely an era gone now. The Carousel of Progress is a must do every time we go. My middle daughter and I will go when the others go on some other rides. It’s not a Disney vacation without The Carousel of Progress!!!
I, too, attended the New York World's Fair and experienced It's a Small World, Carousel of Progress and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Great childhood memories. We moved to California right after that, and those amazing Disney attractions followed us.
I was at Disneyland on Saturday. I didn't realize that he'd passed away.I saw the Pearly Band in front of the Castle, and I realized something seemed..off. They were more subdued than usual. I always stop when I see them, mostly because I was a brass musician and I love brass bands. Anyway, right in the Supercali... right at the part where they say, "You know you can say it backwards," and they rest of the band turns around? Cute gag every time. After they turned around, even Mary Poppins, they all took a knee, dipped their heads momentarily, then popped right back up and continued on. I'd never seen that before, and they didn't explain. I only knew something was off because I've seen this performance many times. Then, ended the set with "Let's go Fly a Kit, and at the beginning, they broke character and said, "This is for Mr. Sherman..." Then something I've NEVER seen? As they were leaving, Mary starting singing Feed the Birds... and that's when it hit me. I don't think most people watching it realized what happened. IT was really beautiful, actually. I wished I'd recorded it. I definitely paid attention to the music around me more that day. And when I watched Fantasmic later that night, it definitely hit differently. I loved that a lot of people turned their phone torches during the performance, too.
I watched “Saving Mr. Banks” again yesterday in honor of the Sherman brothers ❤ Freaking great film. I’ve never watched “Mary Poppins,” but I’m gonna do it today. God bless, Sherman bros - thanks for the happiness!
Sacrificed so their republic can be destroyed warp-speed, turned into a third-world shithole. Save your generic rhetoric, we get enough of that bullshit from the politicians and corporations
Great video Adam. It’s amazing how many songs the Sherman Brothers wrote. Got to meet Richard Sherman a few times at the Old Disneyanna conventions. My husband and I were stuck on small world ride for over 10 minutes. I couldn’t get that song out of my mind for days😉
Hi Adam, you can add me to the list of enjoying the 1964-65 Worlds Fair with my family. I was 10 years old at the time and remember riding the Small World ride and the Carousel Of Progress. I also remember the flags being at half mast for the passing of Adlai Stevenson governor of Illinois. The date was July 14, 1965. I also loved the Sherman Brothers and the documentary “The Boys”. The movie “Saving Mr.Banks” portrayed them very well too. 😊
Their music is so joyous and happy!!! Mary Poppins is such a magical movie. It's a small world and great big beautiful tomorrow is forever in my childhood memories.
Thank you for the video. I love the Sherman Brothers music. I was so proud of myself when I learned to play "One Little Spark" by ear. My mom often told me about the great experience she had with Carousel of Progress and It's A Small World at the 1964 World's Fair. It's A Small World was her favorite attraction. My mom passed away in 2006. To honor her we ride It's A Small World every time we visit the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland.
I know all the songs from Mary Poppins. Thanks for listening to the man who went to the 1964 World's Fair. Our elders have a lot of interesting stories to tell.
The Sherman Brothers brought so much joy to me is a small child. They also wrote the music for the 2nd Peanuts movie "Snoopy Come Home". Although it is heralded as the most depressing cartoon I enjoyed it.
I bought the CD of the Jungle Book soundtrack many years ago and it included an interview with the Sherman brothers talking about the process of creating those songs and they shared some really interesting stories. I've listened to it a number of times since then and it's always very enjoyable. Sorry to hear that they've both passed on now, they were true legends who helped make Disney what it was.
Thank you for Sharing Adam. They wrote some of the most incredible soundtracks to my childhood.. So many movies. So many songs. The one big hit that they didn't do was "the bare necessities" which was written by Terry Gilkyson. One of my very soundtracks that they did was also from one of my favorite movies ever and it wasn't a Disney production, it was the soundtrack from Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang! Great and memorable songs! 😊
Adam - I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The Carousel of Progress which was the GE Pavillion was my favorite and still is. I remember It's A Small World as it was the Pepsi Cola pavilion and Ford's Magic Skyway pavilion. Ford Motor Co provided convertible cars for you to ride through time beginning with the period of Dinosaurs. I believe that is the only attraction that wasn't made apart in any of the Disney Parks however a ride similar was in Epcot for a period. I don't remember the Abraham Lincoln animatronic however I know it was part of the Fair. My Dad made many sacrifices to take me even working multiple jobs, I will never forget the experience.
A long long time ago in a world that still exists, I went to our high school grad night party at Disneyland. It was memorable. Unfortunately, the most memorable thing about is was when we were on the Small World Ride and it broke down. We sat and listened to "It's a Small World Afterall..." for well over an hour. I still get an earbug with that song even now!
Thank you for talking about him. I got to see their office door in the Disney Studios and it was as neat as going into Walt's office. May he rest in peace. Robert was one of the soldiers who liberated one of the concentration camps. The Small World song is deeper than some realize.
I rode it over and over on the 1964 World’s Fair. The original ride is in California, when they were opening it Walt brought in children from all the nations. They brought water from each nation and added to the rides water to signify them coming together. It was created for UNICEF.
I also saw it’s a small world and the carousel of progress at the Worlds Fair in New York then saw them when we went on our honeymoon in California in 67
I attended the NY World’s Fair as part of my high school senior trip. We flew to NY from Detroit, Michigan. I rode It’s a Small World and the Carousel of Progress. I remember a similar display to the Carousel of Progress at The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, Michigan from before the fair in New York.
Thank you for this tribute to Disney history Sherman brothers had such great talent. I’m going to be looking 👀 up them and Walt sing Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow around the piano
Love this homage to the Sherman brothers! I had the Mary Poppins LP soundtrack when I was a kid and played it all the time. My husband John and I also were at the NY Worlds Fair. We lived in Newark, NJ so it was an easy day trip to NYC. I was 11 and he was 13 but we hadn't met yet. I remember It's a Small World very clearly, also Carousel of Progress and Mr. Lincoln. On our first trip to Disneyworld as newlyweds in 1974, we were so amazed to see the attractions that brought back great childhood memories! That first trip was magical and we have been back many times with our kids and grandkids.
Rest in peace Richard Sherman. The brothers were the very reason some of Disney's films became longlasting hits. Menken was the Renaissance's hit creator but everything before that was basically done by the brothers.
Thanks for paying tribute to the Sherman Bros - such legends! Glad he got to live a long life (well, both of them!) and left such an impressionable legacy that prob has touched most everyone in some way! I love all the music from Mary Poppins, and walking into Magic Kingdom while, “Let’s go fly the kite” playing is one of my most favorite memories after I moved here 🪁☂️🐧👜👏❤️ Jungle Book played a big part in my childhood too - I had the decorated record, I think I gave it stashed away!
My husband also went to the NY State Fair in 64 with his Boy Scout troupe ❤ Each time we go to Magic Kingdom and we must visit carousel of progress! My favorite too 🥰
Lovely memorial vlog. I saw Carousel of Progress in DL every year from 1969 to 1973, and though I was only ages 6 to 10, I am certain I saw it every year because it was by far my grandma’s favorite attraction, and we always went once a year, just the two of us. I never saw it again until it turned up on RU-vid. (Wow the nostalgia!) Still haven’t been to WDW, but tbh that attraction (though I know it’s been updated) is one of my main goals for a visit. Apparently it was actually moved back across the country & opened with some changes in WDW in 1975. There were never two of them. I’m sure it’ll disappear eventually, but I’m glad it’s hanging in there for now. Love your story of the guy who went to the 1964 World’s Fair, he must’ve been so blown away as a kid!
Adam, thank you for the information. Disney history that is fun and interesting is the absolute best. You did a great job in this video. Keep them coming!!!!
Truly appreciated your heartfelt intro in the beginning to honor the Sherman Brothers. I knew they were an integral piece of Disney as a whole, but I learned much more about them through this video ... what a very sincere tribute to them, Adam. btw, that flash during The Tiki Room, couldnʻt tell if that was you taking a still, or if it was part of the lightning in the showʻs background, lol.
Last month we celebrated the 60th anniversary of The 1964 New York Worlds Fair. He lived to see his work turn 60 years old. What an accomplishment that will live on for decades to come!
I was just at the walt disney studios for a tour and saw the legends plaque of the sherman brothers and the piano they played for walt the day before richard passed.
“It's a world of laughter A world of tears It's a world of hopes And a world of fears There's so much that we share That it's time we're aware It's a small world after all” 😊❤😊
I rode GE’s Progressland, aka, Carousel of Progress at the 1964-65 NY World’s Fair on June 1, 1964, I was 7-1/2. Rode 0:00 Small World and Magic Skyway on subsequent visits. The Carousel of Progress in WDW is actually the original attraction, minus GE’s additional exhibits. It was sent to DLR after the Fair closed and then to WDW around 1975.
Speaking of Disney music.. Came across a vinyl record of Peter Cotton Tail from ‘71 Disney label @ my Aunt & Uncles estate sale.. He had collected a lot of records throughout his lifetime! 🙏
I grew up going to DL since the 70s and was able to enjoy some of the greats that are no longer there. So when I made my first trip to WDW in April the top 3 rides i just had to go on were, the People Mover, Carousel of Progress and It's a Small World! Yes DL still has it's Small World ride, but it's so different from WDW's I just had to experience it too. Disney movies and attractions just wouldn't be the same without the talents of the Sherman Brothers!
