I want to apologize about the loudness of the music. I realize it can be quite overwhelming at points due to it's style of cinematic music, and is something we will fix in the future. I really appreciate the kind comments about increase in production and delivery however, thank you for that guys. I have a new mini-series planned as well, that will detail why I don't play certain games and in my usual fashion provide a timeline of events and a litany of reasons outlined including examples. As the channel grows more and more we have 2 major series planned, one will target singleplayer games and the other a hybrid of MMO content and journalism together (live content :) ). Thank you for joining me on my journey, make no mistake...it's a long one and one we will constantly be creating new stuff on. :)
Thank you, I really enjoy your Death of a Game series since a long time. If you'd like to research on further dead MOBAs I suggest you check out Dawngate and Master X Master.
Yeah the audio is a bit scratchy I get bits of static from 2 different computers, speakers and phone. Still keep them coming. There is quite a few games dying out there in both cyberspace and meatspace.
I miss this game.... So much. Its one of the few games i was bad at, yet still came back to every chance i had to try to get better. So long, Paragon. You were too good for this world
@@user-nk6jq3tt2g Nothing will be like our nostalgic memory, which in 6 years has added several gaps of longing to our memories. I suggest testing both games. Paragon the overprime & Predecessor.
paragon had one of THE best graphics, in game actual graphics, in game mechanics, in game music. the fucking bass in their lobby music is so good wtf. they had so much going for them. sigh.
I never cared a lot about graphics but all my normie friends loved it for exactly thats reason, it was so cool to play with them, now I'm the only gamer left here
@@0816M3RC Yea cause it never got a chance. Tencent couldn't allow even a small chance of another game outshining their cash cow so they forced paragon to not be a moba.
As a beta player with the $99 founder package, after spending hundreds of hours into this game and once ranked top 0.02%, I'd like to point out a few of my opinions: The conspiracy of Tencent's involvement seems exaggerated, people are leaving paragon because the game which was once perfect, slowly morphed into a much less interesting game over all. 1. People complained the map being too large and each game takes too long, Epic could've simply shrunk the map while keeping everything the same. Instead, they spend MONTHS to make a new map--Monolith-- which was 100 times inferior to the original map due to path design and unfinished texture. Adding to that is increased movement speed, which makes a once medium-paced game feels like an Overwatch clone. There was once a lot of 1v1 opportunities which forces players to dodge opponents' shots and predict spell cast, after the update, it's 5 man death-ball the whole game. The game loses it's micro potential simply because the number of players scrambling together plus the speed everything moves and dies. Most people I know dropped the game soon after the release of Monolith. 2. The fucking card system is the core of every game. It's a good idea to patch the balance of cards while gradually add new cards. However Epic decide to scrape the whole system a year after beta and build another one from scratch, which i would't say is better or worse than the original but many people who have spent hundreds of hours on the original system doesn't feel like learning a new system all over again. 3. Match making is a nightmare. A lot of people complained the lack of ELO based matchmaking from the beginning, I was okay with it for a while because there were so few players on this game that the default matchmaking sometimes take 20+ minutes, if they start ranking players then sometimes you'll never find a game. But what's worse is the game never separates group players with single players, which every other MOBA game does. What happens in Paragon is single players often team up against 5 player streaks (usually with voice communication or may even be sitting in the same room), in which cases single players will almost always lose in a very painful, pathetic way. the top ELO players are those who always player in 5 player streaks and have a winning rate high than 90%. Individual player can hardly get above 70% because every once a while you meet a 5-streak and lose the game hopefully, no matter how cooperative your teammates are.
card system was just bad system from the beginning they should just added item shop and you go back and buy items, this would made everything balance and not put pay to win aspects, plus progression in moba is just stupid everyone should have access to any items in the game during the match. map shouldn't of been that big to begin with, but reason monolith failed they forgot they added speed boost or made characters faster if this was present before they didn't have to make new map. match making can be effect by number reasons, game might had MMR, maybe enough people even though there were 800k playing system might not able to properly add people together, there's tons of factors
I mean saying that scrapping the card system for something else was terrible because players don't want to learn something new, League of Legends changed it's runes and mastery system what felt like every year until they reached where it's at now, which personally i think it's worse and too over simplified. Changing things isn't bad, and constantly changing things until you arrive at something that works is good, especialy since the game was in beta, that's a beta's job. Though i do agree the changes to the pacing of the games themselves was all terrible.
In my opinion the first card system was good. You had a choice to build a deck with possible sidestep to counter enemy builds. You had the chance to adapt to the enemys playstyle while building your own. Some stats scaled WAY faster than other stats especially on melee heroes and that was the core problem with the card system. A jungler/ganker had too much freedom in the jungle and could allow himself to not return to base until lvl10 to cash in the xp for cards. I had multiple games where I got lvl10 with 8-9 kills and 0 deaths still rocking the base cards while my opponents were already building their decks out.
The new card system they created towards the end i would say was absolutely inferior. I believe if they had built upon/improved the existing card system from the beginning that would have been MUCH better received and better for the health of the game. as for the rest of your points, I agree. In short. Epic spent way too long obsessed with Revamping the game instead of moving forward. Which turned away existing players as well as new players due to the lack of any real explanation alongside actually making the game worse as a whole.
but it wasn't moba even from the start, it was still more 3rd person shooter probably reason why you liked it, no moba has progression system to get items
@@kyotheman69 It has lanes, it has turrets, it has minions, it's a MOBA. MOBAs are probably the most unique genre of videogames there is and you can't really be halfway there. Although it became more and more shooter-y, paragon died still a MOBA.
Hey look I'm quoted in this video, when I had the audacity to post the math behind the fall of paragon count I was mocked by the player base. When we foretold the closing of paragon again we were mocked. The death of paragon hurt more than a game should.
@@Omgits7ito The eyes watered in the last match, when I already knew it would be the last day and the message appeared that the servers were being turned off and that was the last match.
Yeah it feels that the only reason they got bought was to slowly kill Paragon as to prevent a potential rival for LoL. Scummy but not unheared of bussiness practice. Which is kinda sad coz the game was pretty good. The characters were colorfull and diverse. You always had enough choices to pick from. Graphics were nice. Overall a fairly enjoyable game. Its a shame how it ended really.
As someone from the top 1% of players ("Juggernaut575" on "Agora.gg" if interested in proof) I loved the game. But it had SOOO many flaws. And as I commented to Nerd Slayer, there was a LOT of bugs, that for whatever reason he didnt cover, but was a MAJOR pain in the ass for the entire community. For instance, anyone interested, go to "Aylit WTF" here on RU-vid, and there are exactly 100 WTF Paragon videos, full of bugs, outplays, pentakills, etc. The funniest ones are "What Does Rhino Dude Do?", and "What does AT-AT Dude Do??", but they also show EXACTLY what frustrated players; GAME BREAKING BUGS. If anyone from Epic sees this, know I appreciate all the hard work. The game was brilliant. But whoever your superior was that was ignoring the community, especially us competitive players who knew how to play the game RIGHT, they were inept, and needed replaced. I wish Paragon was still here today. It was such an amazing game. I will never be as hooked to another game like I was with Paragon. Ever.
Ugh, just hearing that theme again bums me out, man. Thanks for making this video. None of your content has hit this close to home for me. I played from the invite-only beta on my friend’s computer up until the announcement that the game was to close. I still have a few clips from cool plays up on my channel. It really does seem to be a mix of reasons why the game ultimately failed. Even the speculation about Tencent’s stock acquisition and Steve Superville’s departure have their place at the table here. Those reasons as well as EPIC consistently ignoring the player base on the forums and Fortnite’s unexpected success all led up to the disappointing closure of the game. While I would like to see Visionary Games create the spiritual successor to Paragon I’m worried that they won’t have the capital to create the world in the high fidelity I appreciate from Paragon. There are also other companies trying to do the same as the assets are free to be used. It makes me wonder how it’s all going to work out once these companies try to monetize their products. RIP Paragon.
I seriously applaud you for being the only one to finally fully explain the in-depth death of the such beautiful game Paragon which I fell in and out of love with. I still cannot beleive epic games was so selfish to not listen to their fans they weren’t the ones playing and living the game smh
Don’t ever stop making these. Even if I’ve never even heard/played the games I still find the videos fascinating. Shame about Paragon, I played a bit during beta and thought it’d have a wider appeal than it did especially with how big MOBAs were a few years back.
This is the reason I'll never play fortnite. Just because they got a lucky success they abandoned paragon instead of working on it. I'll never play another game by epic.
Hope you read this my dear paragon-lover friends. Theres a ''Paragon 2'' project going on, and actually they are in open alpha as i type. Look it up it'll be called ''Fault'' . Spread the word. GL
@@pabloc4204 Google can help you find things besides porn. Type ''Fault'' or ''Paragon 2'' in the search bar and im sure the info will be there. Regards
@@JuizP wow, nice joke, what did you think i do to say that the is not a open alpha? in the site they state that an open alpha will happen by the end of the year, and maybe by the start only a paid alpha, rn only testers can play or by being lucky to get a key or something, the objective of my comment was to know where is the open alpha, maybe im just dumb and did not see it.
When i first played paragon i fell in love with a free game which is almost impossible for me... I was like whattt?? This amazing game is free?? Howw... So sad that it's gone.. I would pay to play it again
what this video sum up is a group of developers who have no idea what the fk they were doing. This game start as Moba and end up being Overwatch. And that pay wall, worst criminal
I miss the feeling of loading into a new game in Paragon, picking a character and then picking a deck. I miss the feeling of the first kill. I miss the feeling of destroying a tower. I miss the moment of the final push and an all out war with powerful abilities being blasted by every character. I miss the announcer's voice after the end of a match. But I think I miss most of all is the music. Simply being in the menu going through the different characters and building decks was so exciting when the music started playing and then the kills start coming and the towers start dropping. I miss this game. Paragon deserved better.
Miss that pause in mid when you meet you're nemesis/mate before partying up or go 1 v 5 with a innovative build before anyone else only to misjudge and die to a random jungle mob
old, but kinda every company has parts bought by tencent, ubisoft, blizzard, riot games, ea, activision, you name it, so tencent gets a percent of everything that is made
I remember the first time i played paragon, i was such a shitty noob and was frustrated by how hard it was. But as i played and played i slowly became a huge fan. I seriously played that game over and over, finding new ways to play each hero marking the game give me new reasons to play. As time comes monolith comes around, i as excited but then i realized it was only going to be one map. Even when it went down hill i sticked with it through the end, until they said the game was getting shut down. I loved paragon so much and to see it get shut down when they had fortnite that could of funded the project was a pretty sad moment. I've never thought seeing a game die would be more sad then the death of Lee
Just learned about this game today and I'm sad I never got the chance to play it. From what I've seen, I would gladly choose playing this game over fortnite.
Still not the original game that has been shutdown. So sad they moved to Fortnite after that...only cash grabbing in Battle Royale and still no F2P Save the World....like wt...
15:48 - I see so many of these smooth transitions in your videos, they make me feel all warm and happy inside.
I played legacy and monolith, both were good, I disliked legacy more. It was slow and everyone stacked cards the same way. The game was solid, but compared to fortnite, the resources we're pulled. I hate fortnite for this reason. I hate battle royal games, fuck em. I want paragon back.
Paragon is what happens when you replace a games designer with a mobile games designer and then proceed to change the gameplay only in ways that the playerbase didn't ask for and ignore everything that the playerbase suggests. I'm posting this before watching so lets see how right you get it :D edit: pretty spot on. game alienated it's core playerbase too much with simplifications
3 years later, here we are. Omeda studios have made a lot of progress with "Predecessor" which is a revisited version of Paragon, and, as what we see, with a classic item shop for a MOBA. Dunno how it will go, but as far as I'm concerned, the video we have access to are really promising even tho it's still in closed alpha.
i asked for a "death of a game paragon" 2 months ago and you delivered. What an amazing video you did there my friend. You did capture the full essence of this game , the hidden gem of the moba all ruined by the cockyness and the gluttony of a company who juste dont care about there playerbase. You earn my respect, my sub and my bell baby. I wish to see one day a War z / infestation story death of a game. Your channel is amazing, a hidden gem like paragon ;) keep up the good work !
It's kind of true but it's always about money. Why epic was bought by tencent ? they were sucessful and rich as fuck. Dont they want to keep there ambitions, colors and indentity for themself ? I know it's more complicated than that but it's sad to see all these huge rich ass company forget where they come from. they dont want to innovate anymore. They want less risk and high rewards . Blizzard, Ea, activision, epic, ubisoft. All those studio and publishers could take huge fucking risk. Diablo is the perfect exemple of risk that change the market and created is own type of game. A fuck masterpiece by 30 guys in a basement. Paragon was an amazing calculated risk thrown away by chinese who were afraid to auto cannibilzed there own monopole of the oversatured moba market.
I still miss this game, and I can't find a MOBA to replace it and give me the same satisfaction. Fortnite killed the game but the game would've never gone anywhere with the stubborn devs not listening to the community anyway. It's really sad because the game had so much potential, but they just didn't go anywhere with it. Let's hope the people that are rebuilding the game actually succeed! :)
Paragon just had so many interesting and unique characters. At least in it's early stages, before every new character was just a human. I still miss my Khaimera
Vincent van T smite? It has a similar camera but such a better gameplay. Just the theme might not be something for everyone but i recommend giving it a try after 3000h
I played Smite for so many hours before Paragon. I used to love it but the devs are kinda meh and the game is super stale. I don't really like Hi-Rez as a game company.
"wow what does that rhino go do?" sure was fun during v43 one hit grux. sad it even got released that broken and even sadder is how long it to for them to fix it, when wukong had a bug in his stun he was gone the next day. epic failure
If anyone is wondering what happened to the project phoenix rising. It, unfortunately, died 10 months after the announcement. They stopped the development due to internal conflicts
For thise of you who haven't yet heard, two other companies are creating successors to Paragon: Predecessor and Overprime. Both I believe are still in beta, but look to be releasing soon.
@@Fedordiorsnope I think overprime did, but predecessor is still going and they even ported it over to consoles a few months ago. I’ve been playing it on ps5
I had been playing Paragon since Alpha and was in the top .3% of players... It was a stab to the gut when they changed the map/card system and added loot boxes. I took a 6 month break and came back to New Dawn where it looked like someone had intentionally set about ruining it. I'll miss you Rampage.
We're on the same boat. Had some great pentakills with khaimera during legacy and even a few during monolith. After new dawn I knew epic games was finally done with paragon. It's sad because we were a great community until they destroyed it
Maji777111 they're trying to rebuilt something like it. There is no guarantee they will actually succeed and if they do, that it will have the same feel of Paragon, or even the same crowd, since getting it on PS4 is going to be hard. But fingers crossed, I have nothing to play
Wow! For a game that had, at one point, one million players this video is the first time I've ever seen any in game footage. And I watch a lot of game review/news channels so that's really weird to me. Keep up the great work!
Chances are, Epic took accounts created and translated that into an active playerbase thinking 1 million accounts created means 1 million active players. That or Epic flat out lied. I'm leaning more towards the latter.
Cuz they never advertised the game. they said they won't do it until the game is ready and there is a toutrial system. So in my opinion 1 million player in a game that never got advertised give you an idea on the potential of it, but fuck Epic.
For those who played paragon or wanted to play it, there are several remakes by different companies being made. I'm personally most excited for predecessor, which has Steve superville acting as advisor and felt just like paragon when I played a game in their server stress test weekend. Some negatives are that they have changed out the card system for an item shop and during the stress test weekend, the servers fail because of too many players wanting to play. However, I still think they are worth paying attention to when they release predecessor in future.
I was super excited for pred. Played their first and second testing weekend, then came the changes, and then yes the massive server failures. I was hoping we were getting closer to a playable remake, but it just doesn’t seem like it anymore. They hardly put out updates like they used to. Overprime is my new hope for the paragon remake.
I think the biggest issue was when the monolith update came out and they axed the main map for a smaller, more chaotic map. They should’ve just added monolith as a separate game mode like clash in smite, and continued to fix bugs and match making.
It’s sooo painful that Paragon was closed. I played it basically every weekend and I loved it soo much man 😭. Honestly it seems like the game was sabotaged or steered in a new direction so that it wouldn’t get bigger than league of legends
ArtofDylan Ahh, unfortunately you drank from the well... uh *well* after it was poisoned. You missed out on the Golden Days of Legacy the patch before Monolith was introduced. Funny... Monolith also went through a short lived Golden Age (i believe it was the patch before Zinx release, or maybe it was AFTER her changes, I forget). Then came the Card Overhaul, the poison that soured the well... Which is what you played.
The card system was completely different and in my opinion way way way better in legacy and monolith compared to the shit that was paragon in the months before it shut down.
Tech Stomper you say that, but you got to remember that they did jump on the BR train when fortnite wasn't bringing in as much revenue and was close to dying. Those $20 dollars just for a skin especially a rare don't lie.
Tech Stomper ehh, either way the games was still to close to dying or was going. I mean it's not everyday when you see a company like Epic talk about turning their $60 AAA game that they spent 7 years on into a f2p game and then move almost all their staff and money from their only other game to hop on the hype of another game. Also by that time, almost everybody from both team were working on fortnite.
Tech Stomper dude no matter what happens to a game, the dev's sooner or later have to swallow their for it. If they fucked up the game or if it was shit like GearBox, Hi-rez and EA have done in the past. Or puss/sell out and jump on the hype of a game or train and hope it successed like EA, BossKey, Hi-rez and Epic. Either way I'm not pissed at them for doing that, but pissed at them for shutting down and getting rid off their game, instead of leaving it alive until they had money to fix like other companies do.
Tech Stomper GearBox (Battleborn), Bosskey(LawBreakers), Hi-rez(Tribes), Crytech(Crysis multiplayer for all 3 games), EA&DICE(all of the battlefield games with multiplayer before bf4), a lot of the cod severs for ww1, black ops 1&2, MW3,2 and 1 are still up, but filled with hackers. Arma 3, dayz, tf2, Gmod. Hell half off them still have severs up and running for games that are as old, or even older than tf2, and don't even have microtransactions. Should I say more.
why would battle royale will be the same in a few years?? its just a trendy gamemode. maybe in half a year someone invents a new cool gamemode for another type of game maybe its a new moba concept, i dont know. But what i know is that LeagueOfLegends was there before any battle royale excisted, and still super popular since 10 years. And i think it will stay for at least 10 years more. Counterstrike,Starcraft,LoL. These games are the Fundamentals of E-sports
Battle royale will be dead soon . Market needs a new moba like this . riot games and valve don't have balls to do this . And smite ... oh boy smite is the shittiest game I ever played
Soheil Dehbashi a shit ton of players would disagree with you, smite is the easiest of the moba by my standards, I wouldn’t call Paragon the hardest when it first came out.. but it’s sad what had turned into.
Mobas are still consistently one of the most popular games on twitch... Saying they aren't as popular as they were is just outright wrong It's not my type of game, but any time of day I can open twitch and see League in the top 5
@@pflanzenpython2226 mobas have existed for decades, so have battle royales...sorta (It's basically arena mode but more people) Neither have gone away, but Mobas have definitely seen the end of their heyday. Same as survival/crafting games. Battle Royale games will come and go as well.
I was actually thinking about this game a lil while ago. The game was visually cool and the concept of there being verticality was super cool. I cant tell you how many games I solo won purely from playing Khaimera, getting like 3 kills then taking over the map.... good times.
Kudos, nerdslayer, this is your best video yet ! I really enjoy the higher density of information and opinion and also the increased production values. You got yourself a new subscriber, please keep up the good work !
Great video as always man, well done. Long time player of Paragon here, since early access days and I have to say I still rank it as my fave MOBA ever. The original map design, the awesome character design and the awesome sense of weight the combat had a e just a few highlights. Saying that the issues you raised are spot on as I saw it first hand sadly, used to play everyday when I could but REFUSED to pay for cards and gems, grinded it out and it was as tedious as it sounds. Couple that with the fact that here in Australia on the oceanic servers PvP was virtually non existent outside of organised scrims from within Discord groups etc. Most of my time at the end was spent playing PvE, which when queued for would pop instantly but PvP you could wait 2+hrs or more. One of my mains was Countess and I was literally a day or two away from reaching mastery rank 10 when the game shut down, that's how slow it could be (Also I would fill any role that other players wouldn't take so I couldn't always play her) By the end a lot of the players just had no idea what they were doing you would have a whole team of carrys or a whole team of mid landers then they would all be in the same lane.. It was just a train wreck sadly. The card system became a HUGE issue and you hit the nail on the head that it turned people off the game. Alas, was truly saddened it ended this way though I am very keen to see what Phoenix Rising and some of the other projects can do with the assets. I just want to play Paragon with a decent community as I still think after all it's issues it has the potential to rival LoL, Smite and any other MOBA. Again, great video mate, thoroughly enjoyed it 👍👌
I played a few matches back in the early access games. The card system was super opaque, and matches dragged on. It was still fun an interesting until all of friends and I got traumatized by a match that went on for over an hour an forty-five minutes until the least satisfying ending as we got ratted and our towers chipped down at torturous speed as we were unable to finish. Add serious mobility problems (every attempt to disengage was just go around a corner and start sprinting and they'll never catch you lollllll) and all my friend unanimously agreed we liked our other mobas better. Still, the art was gorgeous and I hope someone does something cool with the assets. Too bad it didn't do better as as game.
Monolith felt like an arrow to the shoulder, the New Dawn card system felt like a 50 BGM straight to the heart, will miss this game forever. It was the best MOBA ever, Legacy was amazing, all the heroes where fun and well designed and i'll say that i feel like the card system was far superior than an item shop, if we forget about the fact that it was progression based and assume we had access to all the cards, the card system was amazing, in LoL, you take your Blade of The Ruined King, your Kraken Slayer and you can't really change anything, the power of the card system is that you basically could customize your items yourself, i remember spending nights with a friend trying to figure out the best builds for our mains, i rememeber that nasty Sevarog Build i made, you could 1v5 easily with it lmao, i miss those times ...
I've been binging your content for a couple days now, and I just wanted you to know that it was the combination of a Jim Sterling clip and an unironic Notebook reference that really sealed the deal for subbing.
Great video. It probably should be mentioned that VG aren't the only ones trying to create a Paragon "sequal". There are also Unleased Games, who are actually using the assets Epic has distributed, and also shown a teaser trailer last month. There's also RocketMania, an individual doing the same, and also project "Predecessor" (I forgot the name of its creator) also throwing the hat to the ring.
This was an amazing video. Kudos to the editor. You must have covered all the content through this game's life cycle. Great job! 👍 I have still not gotten over this. I joined this game when Steve Superville was still leading and Legacy (original map) was up. That was my favorite version of this game, despite its shortcomings. Once Monolith (new map) launched and they overhauled *EVERYTHING* it was all downhill. I stayed and played and followed the development zealously ... waiting and hoping for an update to make the game fun again. A year and a half later it was declared dead. I remember reading every blog post, every patch note update and I adapted to all the reworks. I couldn't help it ... the original vision left *that* much of an impression and I just knew I could relive that with just a few more updates. What a fool I was. After this heartbreak I vowed 2 things: 1) I will never buy an Epic Games video game *EVER* . I was there for all of their BS and I have lost all faith in them 2) I will never play an Early Access/Open Beta game again. I can't begin to describe how frustrating it is to watch something you love morph and deteriorate into something you hate. Never again. Like you said in the video, the art team fucking out did themselves. So many memorable characters. My favorite design wise was Sevarog (Grim Reaper looking dude). Gonna miss him and the rest 💔 Again, great video! I'm flooded with all sorts of feels. I'm gonna go watch the reveal Paragon trailer while scrolling through my screenshots folder. This game may be dead, but at least the memories of good times had will live on. _returns_ _to_ _the_ _void_
Dude I was gonna type all this out but you said it perfectly. My friends and I noticed how they started dumbing down the card system back in legacy, like getting rid of some stats like cooldown and such. Eventually we realized they were just ruining the game after monilith (although monolith did have its pros). But man was cam winston a moron, and they absolutely no clear direction or even and understanding of what a MOBA should consist of. Then fortnite was the final nail in the coffin dude. Legacy version of the game was my absolute favorite game of all time. And it really hurts not having it. Like my friends and I still talk about it and how they messed it up.
UItros you aren't the only one, I genuinely loved this game. It felt great, it looked great, it was very strategic and so satisfying to play. The characters were all unique and cool. It was the best in legacy and they just made worse and worse with each update. I honestly hate epic at this point. I'll never support them again
@robbinbanks they were all over the place after Monolith. Removed too many core features and added several bad ones. I'm not a MOBA try-hard or anything, but when they announced the removal of harvesters because players didn't *get* *it* I couldn't believe how low they were willing to stoop to try be more _appealing_ to casuals. All they needed was Monolith movement and character reworks (I liked the faster animations and low cooldowns, though disliked how easy it was to die) and shrink Legacy a bit. Also Orb Prime dunk because that shit ruled.
You got it in exactly same words me and tons of players think. to make it shorter, they just started as a GREAT game on legacy map they start ruining the game with every next update. I am really missing this game, it was so unique and so addictive and satysfying. hope someone will make remake of this game so we can play it again.
I used to look forward for a 30min match of this after i got home from school, i always wondered what happened to it. I vaguely remember the smaller map being introduced and it just didnt feel fun anymore. Great vid btw
yes please please please nerdSlayer, your content is good but before you upload, have a buddy act as an editor and have a listen. Then do what they say with regard to sound balance, the background music and SFX are loud as hell and absolutely relentless. You can do some louder segments if you need to demonstrate some gameplay, but you want it like, HALF as loud when you are talking over it especially when it's just generic BGM from the game
I went out twice to Epic for an OT and The Fey release stream. Everything was going "right" then. But they started only looking at the numbers and trying to make them look good instead of making the game good. Caused a downward spiral that never recovered. I even voiced my opinions when Feng Mao could solo carry High elo games(75% win rate in solo queue before draft) and they said "Overall he is around 52% win rate" and dismissed the claims. Which they did on reddit and forums too.
In case anyone wonders, paragon is re-releasing as overprime. You can wishlist it on steam. The release date says ''coming soon'' so you cant really tell when, but atleast the game is worked on to be revived.
I actually loved the game and continued to play the whole way through. Sure it changed like 3 times and there was chaos but as soon as you got used to the new play style it was great. My girlfriend and I played almost everyday together and we made a lot of great friend along the way.Wish I could play as Aurora and Iggy and Scorch again :(
I feel like, if a property belongs to Epic Games and it's dead, chances are the word "monetization", any variant of the word "lootbox", or "shop" will be said at least once in a retrospective on its failure.
well tencent owns something of everythimg, 20% of blizzard, 30% of riot, 10% of steam, so...whatever happens, they own the market, number 1 on mobile, number 1 on pc
17:20 They said "grow Paragon into a moba THAT CAN BE MONETIZED". They did not say "Make Paragon into a moba." There is clearly a difference there. They planned to make it free to play meaning they had to monetize it to keep it running. They couldn't get enough players and find out how to make those players pay for server upkeep. I miss Paragon as much as the next guy who put 600 hours into it but please don't mislead people.
They had enough tho, it's just that fortnite br came out so they needed to release constant updates so gogogo all peopke at epic games quarters, it's fortnite crunch time
old ass comment but they didnt need paragon to make enough money to pay for server upkeep. They make billions off of fortnite, they could have kept servers running forever if they wanted. Like Hirez, for all their faults theyve kept their dead games servers running for a long time so people can still play while Smite makes them money.
I started playing this before Monolith (I think. Matches were around 1h when I played). I was completely blown away by the vibe of this game. The blend of sci fi and fantasy, the awesome character designs, the beauty of the art style, even the neat little stories and interactions characters had with each other. The game just GOOD. It had a SOUL. I just thought they need to make matches a little shorter (maybe make the characters move a bit a quicker and augmenting the damage done by like, 10%/15%) and solve the messy card system. But I saw a lot of potential. I put it on pause, waiting for them to develop the game and fix some issues and then I got the notice it was gonna close down. I was heartbroken. I really thought this was gonna be the next be thing in gaming, but I guess it was Overwatch and Fortnite. Oh well, let's hope Predecessor and Overprime have better luck.
The card system was hands down the worst thing about Paragon. It locked you into a role and didn't allow you to change things up mid match like you from say an Item Shop. Where if you specked damage and needed more defense you were allowed the freedom to do so...not in Paragon though.
Actually It was a very good compcet in the begining not allowing to snowball a game whit 2 kill more than the opponent likes in other mobas the late sistema was bullshit in that i totaly agree
For anyone who watches this in 2023 and misses this game. It is back. Early access on steam, look up predecessor. It's legitimately the same game (chars, maps, and a reworked card system) absolutely worth checking out
I hardly enjoy MOBAs in a way I can't really describe, but I was in love with Paragon, even with its shitty development handling. I loved that game so much that the shutdown was the main reason as to why I despised Fortnite and E.G. company as a whole, as it was clearly written on the walls that once they fucked up the IP, and saw their other IP gaining massive success through an old yet newly rising pvp genre, that the game I enjoyed was going to the bin.
I really loved Paragon, it’s graphics, and gameplay! The main thing that hinted to me about the game going downhill was when the card system got changed. I don’t know how you all felt about it, but I liked the old system better. Edit: My favorite hero was Wukong! He was so much fun and his ult was really neat!! I really wanted to learn Shinbi more but she was really hard for me lol.
