I feel so sad while reading about them. Killing your kids and brothers for power when the Sultan could have changed the law. So much intrigues, lies to survive.
It was either Selim and his children or Bayezid and his children in the end. Bayezid never would have allowed Selim and his son to live, especially if he became Sultan. People only hate Selim because he happened to be cunning enough, with the support of the even more cunning Nurbanu, to come out as the victor. The fratricide law is basically never taken seriously on the show, especially by characters like Hürrem, Mahidevran, Mustafa, Suleiman, etc.
I guess people have some misunderstanding about that "fratricide law". It was not a rule that obliges new sultan to kill his brothers, but allows it. The point is that, at the end, it is sultan's choice whether he would kill his brothers or not. Wrapped in concern for stability of the state, that law ultimately became an excuse for satisfying sultan's greed for power. And the reason why Suleiman and his family never considered it seriously is because Suleiman himself never had to deal with it, as his father killed all of his brothers long before Suleiman became the sultan.
Frankly, I simply cannot understand Suleiman. He has 5 sons, 4 of which have the same mother, he has told us time and time again how much he dreads the possibility of his sons killing eachother for the throne and yet he does absolutely nothing to prevent it from happening. He never abolished the law of fratricide. What the heck was he expecting? That all of his sons, apart from the most competent and at the same time most obedient, nonthreatening one, would magically pass away, saving the only survivor the trouble of killing them himself?
I agree with you hundred percent. This inhuman law was responsible for all the tragic incidents. It poured so much venom in the relationship of the members of royal family.
Selim was exactly like hurrem... Just thinks about himself... No mercy.. No kindness.. Only cruelty.. And gives a excuse that" whatever i have done, i have done for my children well future "
Really, watching magnificent century, either hurrem or kosem make me realize how "fun place" european palaces were. I mean, both were cruel. But this ottoman dynasty was something else. Game of thrones in real life
It was no different in europe but instead of brothers sending the executioners on eachother they fought for the throne in succesion wars which made ordinary people lose their lives, thats why the fraticide system was implemented in the ottoman empire in the first place.
I don’t think he should have wanted to kill his brother at all 😅. Beats me why Hurrem knew she had more than one son and didn’t try to persuade suleiman to stop fratricide laws.
Selim was right he didn't want to kill his brother he remembered what his mother said It was Nurbano who wanted it and forced Selim to do it just because of their children's future and he got blinded in love with her his children but it did not matter I mean if you heard someone for this or another reason in future your child or someone you love the most or even yourself it definitely happens to them.
I feel bad for Bayazid when he plead mercy for his sons and kill him instead i can feel his sadness, emotions and learn what a great father he is and most heart breaking scene in magnificent century 💔an ottoman empire should have only one son instead of killing their son or killing each other among siblings
In all monarchies, even today, the rule was and is an heir and a spare. So they may not be visibly going after and executing entire 'families' as they did in this time frame but they remain the same.
I mean, Bayezid was right Selim was remembered as a drunk, not a traitor though. Ironically, the one remembered as a traitor is Bayezid for his foolishness.
@@hurremsultanas well, Selim was the exact copy of his mother: cruel, selfish and plotting m*rders. He was smart enough to learn from her but it backfired for Bayezid.
@@miamoser2389 And they were unique in that? Far from it. Besides both Hürrem and Selim had their complexities and redeeming qualities. They just get villified because they were opposed to the 'military heroes' of the series (who aren't as heroic as the show frames them in my opinion - plenty of murder to be found there after all). Besides it's interesting to call them selfish when they are the two major players who are the most notable for their charity work. Hürrem helping the poor, women and children and Selim financially supporting Mahidevran.
Shameful act by turk ottoman i hate it 😢😢 this is so painfull How can yu kill yr own son or brother n how yu call yrself sultan or khalifa So shamefulll act in turk history's
