Vietnamese property developer Truong My Lan was sentenced to death by a court on April 11, 2024, after she was found guilty of masterminding Vietnam’s largest fraud case. The court found the 67-year-old swindled US$12.5 billion from the Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SCB) over the course of a decade. The verdict came at the end of a five-week trial in Vietnam's business capital Ho Chi Minh City. Eighty-five others also face verdicts and sentencing for their roles in the crime.

Total amount USD12.5 billion + USD27 billion to pay to SCB = USD39.5 billion, about 9.5% of Vietnam GDP. She did not admit guilty and pushed it to her subordinates that it was their fault just like Najib’s 1MDB case. The defenders are doing just their job. You can’t blame them for what their clients committed. They must do their job whether they want to or not. The law does force defender to protect their client. But it doesn’t mean that they at the same don’t have feelings or thoughts that their client should be sentenced if it is required to the death. And it doesn’t mean neither that don’t have thoughts or feelings that they their clients are responsible for their actions and for committed crimes.

@oanhienlong7264
@oanhienlong7264 12 дней назад
@@andrew-hv1hv uhhhh....no. This is an absurd amount of money and many, MANY consequences resulted purely from this, you can say this death penalty is a loud and clear message for those others looking to do it again. The west may think differently, but this is a strong way to fight corruption, by sending a message. "No amount of money is worth a person's life" only true in certain contexts, this is not that context.
