Every country should have the death penalty I don't understand why a criminal should be locked up and fed with the money from the tax of his victims! Either that or bring back the prisons of old were prisoners actually worked for the community
For me, the death penalty should be given to pre meditated murder, sexual interfearance with a child and terror attacks that cause death. Anybody object to that!?
There are always Lefty tw&ts who don't actually care about ordinary people who are victims of crime. Look at how hiring a useless and incompetent lesbian to run the Met turned out.
Do you think the taxpayer should be charged 1.72 MILLION pounds to keep letby alive over the next 30- 40 years? It costs £43,000 per year per prison inmate. If they have been sentenced to LIFE imprisonment - then yes, death penalty. Do I think the system is infallible? No. Do I think the death penalty would be a deterrent? Yes. Will the death penalty reduce the number or serious crimes like this? Yes. Fuck "human rights" of the criminals WHAT ABOUT THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE VICTIMS NOW AND IN THE FUTURE?
A drop in the ocean compared to what the government is spending for Illegal Immigrants who have travelled through safe countries, some of which are in prison at the tax payers expense.
@@DavidEdwards-e6mthere is no deterrent for a murderer so removed from reality.. Prison is cushty & death is a release... For me the question becomes what would we prefer to do, remove them permanently in body as they have in mind or pay to house, feed & allow them to breath.
We live in a country where the Police can harrass you based on "wrongthink". Where an autistic child can be thrown to the ground and arrested for saying a police officer looks like a lesbian. Where judges can demand that women call male rapists "she/her" in court if the rapist claims to identify as such. Where sex attackers working for the police are allowed to get away with it for years. Where those in power refused to do anything about gangs abusing and raping girls for fear of upsetting community relations. Where lawyers are caught on video saying they will fabricate a defence for money. All these things go on and certainly worse things too, and yet many of you want to hand these institutions the power to end lives.
@@roryboytube the Police are part of the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system is flawed. Often deeply flawed, corrupt and prone to politicisation. Yet you want to give it the power to end lives. Ingenious.
@@roryboytubesilly you, his argument is that there is alot of corruption in government and including the judiciary. A bad judge can be bribe to take an innocent life for profit. This is not the country for that, try China or Iran.
Japan is actually one of the worst examples imaginable, most people automatically assume because they're a very highly developed country with a decent democratic system that their justice system is the same as well, but nothing could be further from the truth. Japanese public prosecutors have a conviction rate of 99%, and there are some very dodgy practices involved for them to maintain that conviction rate. To begin with, prosecutors will only prosecute a case if they think the case is pretty much a slam dunk, any kind of uncertainties about the trial's outcome and they refuse to have the suspect arrested and prosecuted. Meaning that in reality almost no crimes lead to prosecution, and most criminals remain at large. But even worse, once a prosecutor does give the order to have a suspect arrested, they are all in, and they don't shy away from some very abhorrent practices to draw a confession out of the suspect. After all, they can't lose a trial, losing face is an absolutely massive thing in Asian culture, and that has led to a couple of infamous and absolutely disgusting failures of justice. For example there was one extremely infamous case where a Japanese man suspected of murder was prosecuted for it as a capital case, and indeed was convicted. While on death row new evidence came in the prosecutors possession that without a shadow of a doubt proved the man's innocence, so you would think he would inmediately have the innocent man released and all charges dropped, right? Nope, to the prosecutor it would have been such a massive loss of face to admit his fault for prosecuting what turned out to be an innocent man that he sat on the new evidence. It only came to light many years after the man had already been innocently executed.
@@pieterveenders9793 First of all, you are too much of a stereotype and know it all. The more foreigners who know little about the Japanese justice system, the more they mention the conviction rate but for some reason, they never mention the prosecution rate. The high conviction rate in Japan is only for indicted cases. And the prosecution rate is about 30%. Therefore unlike other countries, Japanese prosecutors are very careful and take time to gather evidence and investigate whether to prosecute or not. In addition to the failure to prosecute, there are many cases in which the case is settled or the offender is given a minor charge. These are not good or bad things about the judicial system but simply differences in national character.
@@pieterveenders9793The example you gave is not good as it does not come under the innocent executed as it is corruption. That is not based on flaws in the system but malice.
if it worked as a deterrent before , there's no reason it wouldn't again. Kids might not be stabbing other kids in the street if they ran the risk of losing their life for doing it. If a mad dog kills or savages someone it is put down. I see no difference between a mad dog and a person who planned to murder.
Yes, so long as there's a 100% guarantee the person did it (and not go by a confession since that can be bought/threatened by someone else). No matter the prison status, we're paying to keep a roof over them with 3 meals a day, gym, some prison have buffets and a spa. Homeless people and a lot of law abided tax paying people don't have those! Criminals are getting rewarded for doing crime.
If you watch shows about real crimes the way I do, you would definitely support the death penalty. These men because it is mostly men, rape and kill children, young women, old women and the evidence is indisputable. They are not worthy of life since they had not respect for someone else’s. Anyone who claims that it is their Christian beliefs that cause them to oppose the death penalty is lying in their claim of being a Christian.
Of course why should they have any pleasures again when they have murdered and ruined all those affected ? Why should tax payers pay for it ? A dog bites it gets put down why should murderers live after wiping out peoples lives especially babies
One person wrongly convicted and put to death is one person too many. Also no one with a brain gives a shit about babies. It's actual grown thinking feeling people's lives at stake here.
I don’t get the argument that the death penalty could kill innocent people. Is it ok that innocent peopler could spend their entire life in prison instead? How is that better?
@@Spaceman-jk5fb It just makes sense and is available for the worst of the worst. She would have been hung if this crime was committed in Japan. Another good example of it being used was following the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway. Members of the Aum Shinrikyo cult who carried out the attack were executed as the attack resulted in 14 deaths and over 1,000 injured.
Lucy Letby wouldn't qualify under this set of rules then because no one witnessed her crimes , the evidence to convict her was all circumstancial . I (like PH here) just don't trust our criminal justice system not to make dreadful mistakes which would be irreversible with the DP. Have always been haunted by the story of 10 Rillington Place which is the main reason it got banned in the first place in the UK. Also Barry George spent 8 years in jail for murdering Jill Dando when he didn't . The evidence to convict him was rubbish. That could also have been irreversible miscarriage of justice if we'd had the DP
Its not about deterrence, its about justice for the victims and their family. It's about good people having to pay more taxes because of a bunch of evil fkers. Its about protecting the future genepool, Its about the fact that criminals get protected from the public rather than the other way around.
The death penalty should be restored, but politicians will not restore it because they do not believe that the state has the moral authority to take life.
Not only does an innocent person lose their life in a murder, but the parents go to their graves broken. 15 years in prison isn't justice, it certainly isn't a deterrent.
It can deter and punish at the same time. It doesn't deter the pure evil psychopathic types - but might cause them to hesitate - but it would definitely deter armed robbers, rapists and child murderers. If it didn't. why did the old school bank robbers refuse to carry firearms on jobs? Because they knew that one might be used and they'd all get the death penalty.
As a TRUE conservative and a voter I see my role to be that of limiting the power of government. The greatest power, the greatest sanction a government can ever hold is to take away the life of its citizens or subjects. This therefore for TRUE conservatives this MUST be the very first power that must be taken away from government. If you support CP and consider yourself a conservative - I'm sorry - but you're just a poser
Old guy mopped the floor with the other guy, until he mentioned the road traffic thing. The state kills all the time. At the end of the day, it's an eye for an eye
There are 2 sets of 'innocent victims' we can prevent. Group 1:Those killed by previously convicted murders. Group 2: Those falsely convicted of murder. Which group is smaller?
When the UK banned the death penalty on very spurious grounds, they promised that life would mean life. They now seem more intent on punishing the law-abiding with the green scam than dealing with actual criminals. It seems someone can commit or be party to murder, thinking Baby Peter's mother among a great many others, and be free and clear in a couple of years, living a new life at the expense of the tax payer. There is no doubt that this woman is guilty, so why should I and other tax payers pay to keep her in a lot better standard of living than many of our pensioners?
'Spurious'?? They murdered an innocent man (Timothy Evans). Do your homework. You might also like to check out the cost of executing someone v life imprisonment. Execution is much more expensive for the taxpayer.
@@SamuelBlack84 It will deter many, and the ones it does not and are caught will be got rid of so they can't do it again, which will make society much safer and save an awful lot of money and resources looking after degenerate scum that have no place in society.
100% bring it back, we have lost complete control, we're not in the 60's or 70's, if you take the life of an innocent person your human rights should be taken from you, DNA is unbeatable, technology with camera's, scientific technologies due to crime cases, we live in a different age now, it will also be a huge deterrent especially on the knife crime culture amongst certain races etc, the circumstances of the crime should also fully be taken into account, a mother or father protecting there home and family may have no choice but to kill in self defence especially now with all these criminals flooding Dover etc by the 1000's, they come from environments and cultures where there is no respect for life women etc as you can see they've left even there own women and children behind in these apparently awful countries, a child molester, cold blooded killer, premeditated murders, gang knife crime amongst late teens early 20's, all should be punished with by death, innocent young teens being killed and all they get is a few years in prison, it's disgusting, london has now become a crime haven, we need change to make a change, crime will drop dramatically if Capital Punishment is brought back into play..
Look up Kelly Anne Bates and then get back to me. Absolutely bring back the death penalty, starting with Kelly's k-ller, and this is coming from an American
We live in big brother, constantly monitored and catalogued through our phones, about how we spend money, where we go, who we associate with. And DNA profiling is so advanced nowadays it can indite people that have committed crimes 50-60 years ago. This idea that loads of innocent people would be killed because of capital punishment in 2023 is ridiculous.
He's right about legal services not being at the standard, having done jury service, it's a joke,we need a dedicated group as a full time occupation of trained professionals to be a jury, not me and the rest of the numptys I was sat next to on the bench,as for the death penalty, only if it's absolutely 100% fact, like CCTV. Personally I think we'd need a referendum on the issue of the death penalty in the UK.
YES!! Bring it back.. my only concern is that we still have miscarriage of justice cases happening.. recent case of wrongly being convicted of rape.. So, the police have to stop being so corrupt first!!
Yes we should have the death penslty, but we need to throw out all EU appointed judges , sack most of CPS & sack most of the corrupt Police forces , there isnt no judtice in UK Courts , if there was charles & his brother wpuld be rotting in prison !
Yes if it was 100% they did the crime then Yes, as they would not do it straight away so there is time, but again if it was 100% they did it then so be it.
Why should they get a choice? They forfeited that right when they killed. Keep them alive and make them suffer every day. The death penalty is the easy way out. You could always ask the parents of all those babies she murdered whether they wanted her dead or in prison caged.
I would love nothing more than to see certain criminals face the ultimate punishment but you have to ask yourself this: how many innocent people are you willing to have face the death penalty? If your answer is zero like me, then you can’t support it.
Many would happily let innocent people die. Many Americans have openly stated that they would happily allow Many school shootings so long as they can keep their precious guns
5 times I posted my answer to this question, and 5 times it has vanished, Yes is the answer and start at the top. You cannot live your life without this snake oil, and many are now dead because of it.
Rubbish - each case should be scrutinized separately and if there is no shadow of a doubt concerning the guilty verdict - the death sentence could be enforced.
Death penalty is both a punishment AND A DETERRENT. How many lives are YOU willing to sacrifice for your altruism? YOU are why criminals do not fear the prison system. YOU are why criminals get to VOTE on things that affect law abiding citizens. YOU are the reason why criminals LIKE PRISON MORE THAN CIVILIAN LIFE and deliberately re-offend. In prison they are "a boss" respected or feared - in the real world they are ex-cons that no-one wants or will hire. Prison is their kingdom and people like YOU made it that way. criminals should be led away from the docks SCREAMING FOR MERCY AT BEING SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON. it should be a fucking hellhole on earth, instead its free food, free wifi, free education, free cigarrettes, free DRUGS, free ANYTHING. It's an all inclusive holiday for those people who will not, or cannot provide a life for themselves, and bragging rights among criminals. Just how fuckign naive are you?
@@victorhopper2228 Some people are clearly guilty in very rare cases its obvious and there is no room for any doubt whatsoever .. but if they allow death sentence , because the nature of the whole crime and justice system is that once a person is found guilty by 12 , they are deemed guilty end of story , then it will be used on anyone found guilty of severe crimes. To demand a higher bar of evidence that a guilty person would normally be sentence under is to admit a flaw with a judgement.. which would bring into question the whole system. fact is if the death penalty is used then innocent people will be killed by the state. If I had to bet half my money on her guilt ... I probably would bet they got it right.. but if I had to bet my life.. I probably wouldn't go that far. Ask yourself.. would you be prepared to bet your life they got it right on the evidence? If the answer is no.. then like me you accept these things cannot ever be sure.. 100%.. we don't want murderers walking free.. but at the same time its better to give them the rest of their natural life to prove their innocence and that would have to be uniform across all crimes because you have to legislate for when evidence is cast iron and when it isn't... and that's impossible because then you would be repeatedly communicating that judgements were not sufficiently sound.. which could then be exploited to get them weaker sentences.. based on lesser crimes than they may have comitted as the jury would know that to give them the appropirate judgement would mean death.
I believe that the death penalty should be applied to all people who are evil what about the poor victims who get laid to rest who will never have a life only 6 foot under yet they get to live out their lives in prison
The abdication by the state in the taking the life of a murderer simply assigns the right of choosing who can socially participate to the murderer. Here in Canada, the incarcerated can vote in public elections... So yes, I side with Mr. Hitchens.
In the US the death penalty costs a LOT more than life without parole. Also I strongly believe that are worse punishments you can give to people than executing them. I would FAR rather be executed then go to Black Dolphin Prison in Russia, CECOT in El Salvador, ADX Florence in the US or probably the worst punishment; white room torture which drives people insane. Why give people the gift of being oblivious to their punishment by executing them when they can consciously suffer for their crime for the rest of their natural life?
No one should be put to death even for the most heinous crime. The justice system not only makes mistakes but is also corrupt. A fundamental principle of law is: better 10 guilty men go free than one innocent man is punished. And here is a question for those who think capital punishment should be introduced: Suppose it is your son or brother who is facing execution for a crime he didn't commit Still in favor?
@paulroberts7544 I think if you know anything about the case there was an instance of a baby dying of being injected with insulin, when no other nurse was on on shift, and no babies required it. Similarly another with air injected in their veins. Hardly circumstantial.... And the evidence clearly is proof of guilt, as she has been found guilty, on all counts.
@oliverbrooks1348 Peter is right - laws regarding the transport system does cause deaths. Condoning drinking causes deaths, allowing people to cross the roads causes deaths, but we allow all these options to continue because they are 'pleasurable' or necessary and we don't think twice about doing them - we should toughen up when it comes to the death sentence! You don't leave a bad apple in the box.
@@lesleywild8706 No he's not right. Deaths caused by traffic laws are purely incidental. They aren't intentional. Completely different to giving the state power to intentionally kill its own citizens.
There should be a first degree second degree and even maybe a third degree. What is the point in clogging up the already full system? The death penalty needs to be brought back
"I dont think the state should kill people" I assume he's also against armed police officers shooting dead knife swinging terrorists, or sucide vest wearing loons? In those cases the sole police officer is judge, jury and executioner
The conservatives could get so much more support if they promised the public a referendum on this subject. It really annoys me that we don’t get more referendums
After the cases of the Birmingham 6 and Guildford 4 and the cases of r versus Timothy Evans and Ruth Ellis and Bentley and Craig make me say no to the death penalty
Depending on the case and especially if its a civillian that has passed away from the offence, and the defendant is found guilty then yeah the d penalty is more than deserved. This countrys spiralling out of control, i guarantee death rate would go way down if this was introduced
Tbh i dont really care if Capital punishment doesnt deter.... surely thats even more reason to get rid of these people if even the threat of death doesnt stop them committing the most vicious of crimes?! In a world where we have around 8 billion people, i think we can afford to start parting company with the low lifes of society.
When with out a shadow of doubt murder( not rape) I agree with Peter Deterrence is what we need now The prisons can’t go on like this full of dreadful people why should we keep them…?
It's time for the criminals who decide to target and kill the vulnerable people to receive the punishment that they truly deserve. If Letby thought she was brave enough to kill those babies, then surely she'd be brave enough to face lethal injection. It's one thing to kill children, but to those who never got to grow up, that's a whole new level of low. Those poor parents never even got to see their kids grow up. All because of one sick nurse who was supposed to take care of them, but instead had sick intentions in her mind. That's why death penalties should be the appropriate sentence. There are no excuses for killing children.
*The death penalty should apply for 1st degree murder, terrorism, rape, pedophilia, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, grievous bodily harm and the production of techno music.*
It is not uncommon for people serving a prison sentence to later be found to be innocent on appeal and released. There have been many miscarriages of justice in the past. For this reason alone we should never, never bring back the death penalty. Life should mean life with no possibility of release.
Hitchens , you've gone mad over road deaths , the only deterrent is massive fines , and nobody allowed to drive , which the state would love of course , ending our freedom of movement .
Are you telling me that a threat alone of the death penalty wouldn't act as a deterrent? If you thought there was a strong possibility you'd hang. For a crime wouldn't you think twice?
Alex is a live and live liberal. People like him still believe that everyone is good and it is only circumstances that make them do bad things. The state has a right to execute because there is a process.
Rather than worrying about the death penalty, take a look at the recommended sentences for crimes. Every one of which should be doubled. The CPS should stop settling on manslaughter, because its easier to get a guilty verdict, than murder, for instance when evil parents systematically starve and beat a child to death over months and sometimes years!
Since the death penalty is about revenge not rehabilitation; surely it is better for a murderer to face the rest of their life in jail, suffering every day of their life till they die.
