After the great response to SUNCHASER STAR TRAILS (vimeo.com/54741100), my brave team and I trekked to the world-famous Eureka Dunes in Death Valley National Park to search for some of the darkest skies on Earth. Despite temps below freezing, we went on December 13th, 2012 -- the night of the Geminid Meteor Shower Peak, and a time of great planetary alignment. Armed only with boxed wine, firewood, and our DSLRs, we had to conquer epic climbs, sand roads with the 4x4 Jeep, and the occasional UFO!
But it was all worth it when the skies cleared and showed us an incredible galactic palette! Star Trails shot at 25 sec exposures. No special effects used, just the rotation of the earth's axis. Photography Merging: STARSTAX. Used Canon 5D & 7D, with a 24mm/1.4 lens and a 28mm/1.8. The Geminids get crazy as the sun comes up (2:20-2:35) but you can spot a bunch more throughout, if you look closely -- or here's a nice shot (bit.ly/SkZGdw). There's also some passing planets (1:15-1:30 and 2:15-2:25). I believe the first big one is Jupiter.
The "UFO" appears at (1:30-1:35) and makes three broad circular sweeps over the desert. Though in timelapse it appears to be moving fast, consider the 5 seconds = about 50 minutes, so it's creeping. There was no sound, so it definitely wasn't a helicopter. Closer picture here (bit.ly/T3yK3s). It can also be seen cutting through the circular star trails in the shot used above!

the nightsky does look like that except the spinning thats the camera, that park is god's masterpiece camping out there is a spiritual and emotional experience that resets your whole mindset, i was there in 1971 a teacher took 4 boys and 2 dad's took a pickup truck full of firewood, no tents just sleeping bags and pillows the miky way is huge and bright with multiple shooting stars constantly, it was 132 degrees in the day and froze overnight and waking up to sunrise on golden canyon priceless, the mountains are so huge you can't even see the mighty sierra's 60 miles away

You guys are so awesome!!! It's so sad that we are losing our night sky. I miss it. I live in San Clemente, CA. Beautiful beach town but barely any night sky. Thanks for caring about this because it's a huge loss to so many of us and it's only getting worse. 🌏🌗🎑🌉💙🌠

First off, your video should have more views... this is amazing footage. I'm moving out west in a month or so to California and this will be one of the first things I do when I arrive. From most of the dark sky videos I've seen, this is one of the few that make me drop my jaw. I must experience this in person! I would love to know where you camped and how difficult of a trek it was for you to make it to that destination.

I show this video to people who doubt that there are life elsewhere. I mean come on! its mathematically impossible for us to be the only advanced life out here in deep space. I get the same question everytime: Where is everybody? well space is so vast that you cannot comprehend it with your brain. But i'll bet anything that there is millions of civilizations out there.

i saw something similar one night...in the backyard after burning a pizza....i was with my ex gf....the same thing but lower altitude...it was just like 13 seconds....we both remember the flying thing with different colors, me yellow....she said it was totally blue....im planning to set a camera for 1 year pointing to that exact part where it appears to see if it spanws again....

I've been trying to figure this one out, many may think it's an insect at first glance, and they would actually be right, except that the video is timelapse. So that second that it's on screen is more like 10 minutes. It also makes clear turns, so it's not a satellite because they would just track straight across or slightly curved, they wouldn't do a 180. My last guess would actually be a plane performing maneuvers, depending how far away it is that could make sense time wise. But you would think you would see some hint of a red or green navigation light, they wouldn't blink like normal because of the timelapse, but you should see the colors in the actual streak. Definitely a perplexing case, a plane seems like the most likely earthly/natural culprit.

+Jesse Lacey they are aeroplanes. Planes do this often before landing/ after taking off. They need to line up with the runway, so they just turn to the right direction. 180º turns (like the ones seen in this video) happened in like 50% of my flights. And in long exposure shots like this, and with such a wide lens, they just plainly look like white streaks when downsampling to 1080p

The creator did not manufacture what you are describing - most of these things are made by man e.g. nobody needs to be in hardship or starving

Good point I agree. did the creator just skip over the 3rd world countries ect. I do agree the situations were created by man. But how could the creator let such terrible things happen? This may sound weird, but I stopped believing in creationism after I was told santa wasn't real. I was told santa and god were real as a young child, then told santa is fiction, thus I have a hard time believing in the other.

I understand - I was the same as you until very recently but then I changed my opinion because I found out that we have been lied to about many things such as how Earth was created. I since changed my view. I can't answer why the Creator doesn't intervene - maybe he will in the future. Maybe 5000 years is one day for him. Or we could have lost our connection? I am sure there is a reason.
