timrs2001 It's illegal actually. Depending on where you live, there are laws preventing flight near fireworks and around crowds. Try and you will set the bar very very low very for all drone fliers. It only takes one accident to paint a broad brush for everyone.
ken masters I'm honestly a little surprised the authority having jurisdiction over such things has had time and effort to create such a law, but I'm now extremely interested to know the details - can you cite it?
Amazing footage!!! As a drone pilot myself, my thoughts went toward safety as alotta folks did. From what I saw, the fireworks were launched from unmanned barges, in the middle of a body of water. Thus, had the bird gone down, it was a very slim chance anyone would have gotten hurt. Yes, he risked his bird, but I'm guessing he knew that :-) My hats off to the pilot for enjoying life in the moment, and sharing it with us all :-)
Having shot fireworks before, I can tell you we wear hard hats. Lots of stuff goes up against the wind and comes back down with the wind, right where we are. So we’re ready for sun 250g drones. Please don’t do this with heavier ones, they would hurt...
It depends…. If they are just launching mortar after mortar I wouldn’t want to fly thru some shit like that but Something like this I’d risk it for the biskit to get that shot . $1300 and even more , 2,3,4 ..7 to 10 grand for the thermal drones. I’d HATE to loose my drone because it got knocked out the sky because I was flying over fireworks…..
For those of you saying this flight was not worth the risk, consider the financial risk return standpoint: RU-vid pays for adsense. Let's say the number was $1 per 1000 views. On December 13th, 2014, this video has 10,377,784 views / 1000 views = approx $10,377.78. DJI Phantom with the GoPro H3 goes for around $1000. For $1000, to make 10 tens off of it from 4 minutes of footage and a couple months, that's better than stocks.
I googled how to make money from RU-vid, and it's my understanding that only people with a lot of subscribers get paid for views on videos. And the best way to gain subscribers is to get million hit videos. The author of this video has 5,000 + subscribers, at this writing. I don't know what the magic number is to get paid.
I think the ratio of $ to views is lower. My 13 videos have accumulated a total of 17,000 views and I am sitting at $69.00 in earnings. I am guessing this is pretty standard.
Demetrius Villa The no-fly zone for fireworks was not designed with quadcopters in mind, it was designed to keep manned aircraft from becoming disoriented and losing their night vision in a display and then crashing into the spectators. Sure, the quadcopter is considered an aircraft, so it should also abide by the no-fly rule, but there is literally no risk. The worst case scenario is that one of the fireworks destroys the quadcopter, but because it has no gliding capability it would fall straight into the water harming nobody. Source: I'm a private pilot who has taken commercial ground courses, so we talk ALOT about the FAA's rules and why they are in place.
This footage is just amazing. Literally makes you see the beauty in things from a wholly different perspective. I literally had no idea what I was looking at at 3:37 and thought it was looking to the sky. I know that's impossible but, it was not until the camera panned to the buildings that I realized I was looking down. Such is testament to the beauty of what you managed to capture. On a side note, another excellent choice of music you could've used was the song "Whole New World" from the disney aladdin movie.
And now... this is the camera angle we will expect to see of any fireworks display that is televised. What is my life, when i was younger we were bitching about sodding tamogochii's, now its flying through actual decorative explosions like a video game!
My jaw was dropped this entire video for two reasons. First is to the amazing shots you collected. Secondly, the fact that you'd fly your drone into fireworks. But truly a spectacular video.
Utterly amazing. This is what it must be like flying through a meteor storm. Reminds me very much of some of the imagery from Brainstorm at the climax of the film.
***** yeah along my years of travelling through internet ive learned to spot fakes or atleast be suspicious when needed but theres none of that here lelelele
***** Here's a little thought experiment for you: imagine the volume of each firework being fired into the air in aggregate. This is in total about the size of a small truck. Now, in your head, compare the volume of a small truck to the entire airspace over West Palm Beach. And maybe you'll begin to see that it's actually very unlikely that the drone would ever get hit.
The drone probably costs less than a single rocket. The fireworks company should hire a dozen drone pilots and add that to the choreography, or add drone command to the computer systems controlling the rockets. Then live stream it to IMAX theaters or planetariums.
You're lucky you didn't lose multiple hundreds of dollars worth of equipment... But the results are spectacular! This is by far the best view of a fireworks display I've ever experienced. Thank you!
I agree it's very cool, but that thing seriously could have crashed straight into a barge or into a crowd. This is the sort of thing that the FAA is going to point to when they want to start restricting the sale/use of drones for personal use.
An octogenarian with a punk rock-style mohawk dude for an avatar... on RU-vid. Interesting. Anyways, if you truly do get trauma (PTSD) by viewing fireworks, why did you click on this video?
While this is some very beautiful, unique footage, this is a perfect example of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Been flying RC for decades without hardly any hassle from Big Brother, then a few Droneholes like this come along, and now the FAA is coming down on us like a ton of bricks.
Just beautiful. so classy work of art in every respect . Your choice of song and in to the unreal fireworks are so moving, brought tears to my eyes..... It's comforting to know there are still people like you walking this earth. Beyond belief that some have given it the thumbs down !!! I don't care,, for every thump down there are millions thumbs up to take their place. Well done to you.
The music is beautiful and so appropriate. Anyone who doesn't like it can certainly mute their speakers. Thank you, this is lovely. Brought tears to my eyes watching and listening to this. Well done.
If you watch any #fourthofjuly videos, this is the one. Remarkable footage and it's surprising that the guy's drone didn't get lost as he's flying it alarmingly close to some of these explosions.
Prague, by a small ravine from which they launch the fireworks ;) It looks nice but the explosions are so loud it shakes the glass in the windowframes :D
This has been my favorite fireworks video for years now, since the first time I saw it... hands down, no contest, K.O.'d all others & continues to do so! Something about both the spectacular images together with Bocelli's voice - it’s magic. And then when it reverses???!! That was the shit!! Over the years, I’ve shared this link with so many friends. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve shared it. So... sending this long overdue and very heartfelt THANK YOU for sharing this little piece of magic that I've enjoyed many times over the years! Hope you keep making magic.
Not even joking reading the comments below is like seeing a small child complaining something to his teacher gosh... This video is awesome and also the fireworks is far from where people are watching it and if the fireworks did hit the drone it wouldn't fly to someone like let's be real here people sounds so damn stupid in the comments....
You obviously have not concept of how powerful show grade fireworks are. They are military grade projectiles with pre-mature fuses that make you go ooooooo ahhhh. They are set up by professionals for a reason. If by some off chance that drone got nailed and fell onto the barge and knocked over one of the mortars. It can launch a shell into the crowed, since you are on youtub look up professional fire work disasters.
Chills up my spine. And the use of Andrea Bocelli highlighted the beauty of this. Marvelous idea. This is what RU-vid was meant for; sharing the world.
