Erik Carlson was staring down a terminal illness with an awful end. He wasn't sure he would choose this option but he wanted the choice. Eventually, he seized it.
@@Learn.Lift.Lead360 I hope that you one day look back on how ignorant you were with shame and disgust, maybe even if it’s only once you yourself experience what it’s like to be eaten away from the inside by a relentless illness. Of course, I hope that it doesn’t require this level of suffering for you to develop a deeper understanding of what it means to suffer. But for most people, this tends to be the case. In the meantime, enjoy your health. It will be stripped from you before you know it, as it will be from all of us.
What the stupid F does that mean? Die with dignity?! Wtf?! Dignity means the quality of being worthy of honor or respect. It has zippo to do with dying! What’s an indignant death ffs?! Falling outta of an airplane planning to parachute? That’s dignity right there for ya. A dumbass move that even Darwin predicted.
my own mother dying of copd and congestive heart failure knew how i felt about this, that this is the one thing the dying has left control over when their illness ravages their bodies, she knew i would be the one she could turn to that would respect her wishes. this woman who was my biological fathers 2nd wife and who had lost her only biological child and a sister to a drunk driver and had adopted me at 25, made the decision far sooner than i would had wanted but she knew it was time, i had rushed home from texas and spent one last month with her and then one glorious spring day in 2019 i got the call that she had fallen and that before going unconcious she had asked for me something shed never done before and i knew it was time, i went signed papers and ordered all care to be stopped n said my goodbyes and as we had discussed i left, she didnt want me seeing her pass or her after wanted me to remember her as the firery foul mouthed saay lady she was. my hearts broken but i know i did the right thing and thats shes with my sister and aunt watching over me
@@melanieanderson8357 that's a bit of a heartless comment. It is hard enough to lose someone. This person obviously cared and tried to accommodate the wishes of this lady. And yeah, we all don't know what comes after this life, but if it gives comfort... Why not use it?

I give these individuals so much credit. I don't know if I could ever "pick" the day I will die. But at the same time, I would never want to support the chemo/pharmaceutical companies, hospice, and doctors with so much money if I was not GUARANTEED I was going to be 100% better. Yet at the same I would not want to suffer. All I ask of my family is if I am ever terminally ill and deteriorating, just put a pillow over my face as I am sleeping.
@@ivanberdichevsky5679 Probably because it's not legal to do that in very many places. I live in Texas, and this state is so backward and so authoritarian about all of the most intimate choices in a person's life, I'd have to travel to Oregon or Switzerland to die with medical assistance.
As I Swede (like Eric) I wish we could have the same right in Sweden, to choose to end life with dignity, Right now we need to travel to Switzerland in order to do so.
What a lucky man to have left this life with love surrounding him and a peaceful, nonsuffering manner. Thank God for the acceptance of a choice for patients as to their control over their end of life issues.

I hope my country would allow this too. But it seems that speaking about medically assisted death is such a taboo here that all serious talk about it gets shut down very fast. The only argument is that our country has a "high standards" in palliative care. But it's not covering cases like Erik's at all. People who want to die peacefully at home without having to go through the painful physical end of a horrifying terminal disease.
This is hard for me, I understand it’s right but it’s a sad thing and yet I’ve done this 3 times. We live and we die and this is easier. It’s painful to die yet it feels like quitting. If I had to watch my husband do this I think it would leave me on the floor. It just makes me incredibly sad and it also makes me value time. I’m very sorry for their loss.
My mom died of cancer over 20 years ago. There was and is no assisted dying in my country. My mom was a Christian and i know she would not have taken that option due to her faith. I don’t believe in taking your life just because you can’t do the things you like. I believe only God has the right to take the life He gave. To me the biggest question is do you know where you will end up when you die? If you are not in Christ, you are on your way to hell unfortunately. This is the most important decision. The soul never dies.
Once u have Cancer..it will always come back...much worse....I saw that in my grandmother for 8 years...she had brain cancer and was having brain surgery every year coz it kept coming back..and she did radiation but...nothing will stop the brain tumor..i remember that she had a grapefruit sized tumor on the top of her head..and she had her skull cap removed and the doctors put another skull cap back on her head ... My grandma when through 8 years of hell and she passed away in 2003!!!
This shouldn't only be for people with terminal physical illnesses either. If a 40 year old has had severe depression for the last 30 years why should they have to keep going?

SO I DONT THINK I COULD SELF DESTRUCT, ITS PROBABLY FROWNED UPON BY GOD.
try suffering like many unheard people that cant advocate for themselves. Most of those suffering will wonder why they are being forced to suffer and can't die peacefully in a planned manner with their loved ones. There only needs to be regulation to protect those that need it, not to restrict those of sound mind. Even if someone seems to be mindless, if they want a planned assisted death then why stop them? Are you going to care for them? How do you know that's what they want? How do you know if they are not suffering by your care? Some cases can be tricky but those cases need to be addressed individually not some blanket restriction on people's freedom. Often laws are used to empower certain people rather than protect individual liberty. Again try suffering for years. Actually put yourself in other people's shoes, really thinking about the pain and suffering some are experiencing. Most people only give a minor shallow thought to this....and on the outside you don't realize all the various ways various types of suffering is affecting people. Think what it would be like for the sufferer and those around them. What might it be like for a week, a month, months, years....24/7. It's always a passing thought for others BUT NOT THE SUFFERER! Bottom line, why should someone else determine how you live or die. Sure there are situations like children and those that are clearly mentally no longer there, but again the laws don't reflect protecting their rights, the laws reflect an authoritarian status of "i, the law, will decide everything about your life" Wonder if the medical "authorities" want to restrict those that choose peaceful dieing because they want human lab rats? Some procedures may be helpful, but some prolong suffering. Some would say you don't have to accept medical treatment, but again they think this without considering what it may be like for the sick person and their loved ones. The suffering is hidden from the public...possibly for nefarious reasons. Everyone must die, and our silly cover ups of reality are dangerous. People tend to think life is pretty simple....you're just living well, then get sick, then die. They don't see the tremendous amount of cost, pain and suffering...and don't realize how long this can go on for. This is a serious problem.
This should be available for me too. I have depression and it's really bad. It has made me homeless and just so much misery. I really want to die peacefully and painlessly and this should be available for me too.

What Happen when a Person Die? In order to get the correct answer, let us consult the infallible word of God. And the safest way to start is to ask the question: Q. 1) How did God create or form man? A. Genesis 2:7; And God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Note: In forming man, God used two substances namely: 1. Dust of the ground 2. Breath of life Note: Now that we know how God formed man, we can safely answer the above question by reversing the process in which God formed man. To illustrate: Ii At Creation: Dust of the ground plus breath of life = man or a living soul At Death: Living Soul minus breath = Dust Q. 2) What happen to these two substances when a person die? A. 1.) Ecclesiastes 12:7; Then the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit (or breath of life, Genesis 2:7) return to God who gave it. A. 2) Job 27:3; All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils. A. 3) Genesis 3:19; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat thy bread, till thou return to the ground, for out of it was thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shall thou return. Note: The three texts above clearly explained what happen to the two substances that God used in forming man at the time of death. At the same time, they also clearly answer the question. What happen when a person dies? The body return to dust of the ground where it was taken, (Genesis 3:19,)and the spirit or breath of life return to God who gave it. ( Ecclesiastes 12:7) The belief that when a person dies, there is a soul (immortal) that leave the body, and depending on how the person lived when alive, will determine where the soul will spend eternity, either in hell, to be punished and tortured for all eternity, in purgatory, with the hope of being brought to heaven or direct to heaven as the case maybe. This belief is contradictory to Ezekiel 18:20; The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The truth is, this belief is based on the Greek Philosophy called “Dualism” (pls check dualism in the internet) which teaches that the body and the mind are two separate entity, In that the body is physical while the mind is spiritual and immortal. Here lies this very dangerous belief. Why? Because if the soul is immortal, of course it is not subject to death. That is why, when a sinner die, based on this belief, the soul will go to hell to be tortured and burned forever and ever without end. What kind of punishment is this? Endless. Don’t make sense. It is because the soul is not subject to death, immortal. This is unbiblical. To dispel this erroneous belief, simple questions need to be asked. 1. Would our gracious, loving, merciful and longsuffering God, allow eternal torture and eternal life to co-exist? Of course not, for this will contradict His nature, which is God is love. 2. What kind of sin does anyone do, to deserve this kind of endless torture? There is no such kind of sin, for the Bible says; that the wages of sin is death, not endless torture. (Romans 6:23). According to Galatians 6:7; Whatsoever a man soweth, that he also reap. The truth is, God did not create anything or anyone immortal. For had he done this, then sin would be immortalized. The Bible said, that God alone is immortal. 1 Timothy 6:15,16. The reason is obvious, God knows the end from the beginning, Isaiah 46:9,10. Thus, he knew that Adam and Eve would commit sin, Genesis 3:6. and Romans 5:12; For by one man sin enter the world, and death by sin, in the death passed to all men, for all have sinned. The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23) Q. When will the person that died and who return to the dust, be made alive again? A. 1. John 5:28,29; Marvel not at this, for the hour is coming in the which, all that are in the graves shall hear his voice. And shall come forth, they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. 2. Daniel 12:2; And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Note: The two texts, clearly explained that the dead sleep in the dust and will come to life, when the voice of the Lord is heard at His second coming. Q. What event does the Bible say, would take place, when the dead which came forth from the graves/dust, and who have done good? A. 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17; For the Lord himself, shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the Archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Note: The event described in the above text, is referring to the second coming of Christ. (John 14:1-3.) Q. How about those that have done evil, when will they come to life? A. Revelation 20:5; But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. Note: In conclusion, with this text, the resurrection of all that died and in their graves, (John 5:28,29) from Adam and Eve at the beginning, up to the last person who will die just before Christ second coming, is hereby completed. The reward of them that hath done good, is described in 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17, and in Revelation 20:6; Blessed and holy is he who hath part in the first resurrection, for the second death hath no power. In contrast, the punishment of them that hath done evil is described in Revelation 22:8, and is called the second death. .

It is disgusting how the law and medical community hide behind their lies to restrict those wanting to die peacefully in a planned manner with those able and willing to help. However, there is a place for qualifying the methods in order to limit failed and painful attempts to end life/suffering.

death with dignity is not the end of suffering if you do not have Jesus in your life. You do not get to heaven being a good person, or doing good deeds. The bible says, unless you are born again, you cannot seen the kingdom of god. We are all sinners upon birth, and if we dont repent and trust in Jesus, we will go to hell. Research for yourself. it sounds harsh, but there is no other way than through Jesus. You are to put it in Gods hands, because you are not the owner of yourself, God is. And if you trust in Him, he will give you what it takes to get through. Its in his hands, not yours. But you must ask him into your life first, and he will give you eternal life. I only tell you this cuz I care, and so does Jesus.
Jesus recognized that sick people need doctors. He did not condemn using doctors and 'earthly remedies'. Yes, Jesus performed many healing miracles while he was on Earth. But these were partly to show people that he was the promised Messiah (Luke 4:18). I'm just trying to point out that everyone needs Jesus before their time is up. Most people believe that everyone goes to heaven, and that if you are a good person he will let you in. If I was down stream and knew there was a waterfall up ahead, and you were coming down in a boat, wouldn't you warn me about the waterfall ahead? That's all Im doing, is warning people that we need salvation before we die, by trusting in Jesus, so we know where we will go when our time is up, because I care, and so does Jesus. Its all biblical, its what Jesus said. Unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God.
What a bold statement, everyone's relationship with Christ is personal and you have no idea what may of happened seconds before he died. It is God's will that none will parish and all will come to the knowledge of him. It is God's desire that all will be saved. In the same breath I completely disagree with ending your life no matter what the situation is however it is not the unforgivable sin. Dying without Jesus is.
That's committing suicide. The law is stupid to allow people to take their lives because of pain or because they can't do their hobbies. That's wrong. Jesus Christ willinglingly took the cross with the worst pain and so should we. We are a selfish in this world.
