Ben Degros! Been looking forward to your uploads lately because of the coherent and detailed reviews that you give, with the skate skillz to back it up. Keep it up you Crazy Canuck! 👌🙌🛹🔨
Hey Ben. Just wanted to say I love your reviews on skate equipment. Most of the time in skateboarding one will find reviews on shoes or at most wheels, but you review everything from deck shapes to truck designs and it’s sick. You sort of handle your reviews much similar to how a surfer would describe a surfboard and the fins that go with that certain board. You show how such minor shape differences can either aid or negatively effect a skaters performance in theier own conditions and tricks they are going for. As a longtime surfer and skater I really enjoy your channel because instead of just slapping a set up together I have a more methodical way of peicing together a skateboard. Thanks for everything man, the time spent away from your wife and kids to pursue your childhood hobbies is worth it to guys like me. Take it easy Ben. 🤙
Thank you Ben for this one more great video! I like the way you try new sets and equipments. I discover things that never really thought about. Very nice tricks with a pointy board, amazing!
Hey man. I love watching your videos. I may have a broken wrist but you inspire me to get out in skate. I’ve been watching for around 3 1/2 years man. I love you bro
That Jamie Foy shape reminds me a lot of those old Baker shapes from the late 2000's. Had a really pointy tail and nose and it took me a long time to get used to it. I even landed my first kickflip on that shape! I'll definitely consider one for my next board.
I ride Deathwish deck with venture and thunder trucks. Personally, because of the short nose, the Ollies must be perfect but once the Ollies are there, everything is amazing and you should get one
Great review! I'm riding a Primitive (nick tucker, 8,125'', tensor trucks and some bullshit wheels), and was curious on Deathwish! You should discuss on a few other things: what's the best music for skateboarding? What kind of wife/husband should a skateboarder get? what's the best tea for a skateboarder? How many children can a skateboarder have before it becomes ilegal to skateboard after work? And, last but not least, "why is the skateboarder"?
Great review! My board literally just snapped earlier today and i got back home and saw this video. Perfect timing hahaa. Your outro monologue gets me everytime and todays one hits me right in the feels. So relatable hahaha. Love your videos definitely considering one your recently reviewed boards.
Hey Ben, I was at the skatepark last night and I was trying stuff down a little drop. I'm comfortable in the air, I used to ollie big sets as a kid, but I never learned how to catch tricks in the air and commit to landing a trick off a dropoff or stairs. Could you make a video on catching tricks in the air off drops. I know you dont do much impact skating but a few tips would be great. Honestly I think it's just confidence and I keep catching my varial heels with my front foot and my back foot lands right next to the tail. I basically need to commit and am scared of breaking my ankle for the 4th time..
I struggle with the same situation. I think its just commitment. Having the tricks consistently on flat ground before taking it up a notch helps too. It is harder the taller you go due to hang time sometimes I will catch what I think is a perfect kickflip (off a ledge say knee high) and it starts to come off my feet a little and I get a bit of ankle impingement if I do land it this way.
I like this request, especially because Ben here is such an articulate gent I think he could really offer some good advice. I've been honing tricks off a curb in the hopes that I can take them to bigger stuff Worked so far with shove-its, I did one of those down a two set without even thinking about it the other day.
You just answered your own question. You need to commit. What are you thinking the moment before you jump down the drop? Are you actually truthfully telling yourself that you’re going for it?? Or are you just pretending that you’re trying a trick but really you know in your head that you’re going to bail? If you can do a trick pretty well on flat, then you can do it down an average drop. And by flat I don’t mean looking down at your board...pick a crack in the ground and pretend that’s the beginning of a gap, go at it with speed and do your trick. That’s about the same as jumping down most drops.
Picked up a lizard king 8.1 deck that had a much fatter nose. My favorite deathwish board I’ve stepped on, any Foy model I’ve tried has been too steep of kicks for me
Drixy my first couple of boards were 7,75 and switching to 8,00 feels like a big difference but it’s so much better once you get use to it and switching to a 8,25 it’s not that big of a difference now I ride 8,5s but it all depends on what feels good for you
Love your gear reviews alot, I research and rewatch lately. But when you're skating anything under an 8.25 deck, you look like you're on a fingerboard Ben. More 8.25-8.5 deck reviews by "hesh shapes and different concaves pleez? As a tall skater who isn't young anymore, your in-depth reviews are completely taken to heart and I can actually understand when you get analytical about the details of some decks nuances and feel the same things when trying them myself. Damn that was long winded! Keep it up homie, looking forward to the future reviews/opinions!
Ben! Now that you reviewed on the deathwish boards maybe next review you can do is Zero skateboards sometime...much love for the channel n vids you put out.
Another sick review, I like baker/deathwish wood but its a bit heavy maybe your right about them being a bit bigger. Bro can you heel flip out of your front crooks? I'm just wrapping my head around them.
Do a Blind board review... I'm riding a 8" size Blind board with Thunder trucks and just got the 101du 52mm Spitfire Tablets and I'm digging it. I wanna know what you would think about the Blind deck
Hi Ben, have you tried Control decks? They are made in Canada. I am currently riding a Studio deck (supplied by Control according to slapmag woodshop list,) and it feels very nice.
How odd, currently on the 8.75x32.5/14.5 WB Deathwish, and it definitely is not anywhere near as pointy. Is there ever going to be a 169 review?! Would be cool to see you mess around on something bigger, 8.75+!
Ben I have a deck set up that's unmanageable for me...For some reason it won't pop a kickflip, every kickflip is ghost popped or if I try as hard as I can to pop it the board actually flies higher than my feet. I'm considering throwing Indies on there after watching your video on trucks and wheelbase, it's a Real roman numeral 2 and I guess I'm used to 4s and 5s. What do you do when you have a deck that just makes you hate skating?
@@lesfaul4924 You're not gonna want to hear this, but I set up a new girl and it kickflips fine now. Also you're not gonna want to hear this, but giving your own vague opinions to other people's problems doesn't help or solve them and is just a waste of time for both you and the individual you throw your unfounded ideas and opinions on.
I wanna try one of the different kinda shapes that Polar has. One of my friends has skated a few Polar decks in the past and he loves them. They seem to have quality wood compared to other brands I've tried
Everything I had heard about the deathwish/baker boards it that they are super mellow concave with flatter nose and tail. Is this one of the newer shapes they put out this year or have I just been listening to people that didn’t know what they were talking about? Either way, loved the video, I’m either going Baker/DW or creature for my next deck and I’m excited already for new board day!
I've skated 3 Deathwish boards in the past, and they were all pretty mellow concave and somewhat flat kicks...they were solid boards, but as I started riding other decks I realized I prefer other shapes/concave more. As for the Creature board I had in the past, it wasn't all that great imo. It got pressure cracks pretty quickly and flicking kickflips and such felt awkward on that deck. I ended up giving it to a friend for free since I didn't really like riding it
soydave1988 interesting, I’m still curious enough to try a DW because I like a flatter tail, that’s a bummer about creature though. Thanks for the heads up!
when im trying to learn transition, my front foot no matter what stance cramps and hurts like crazy. its been a year almost and i expected me to get used to it but i didnt. would anyone know why?
I love deathwish videos, novelty products, graphics, shape of the boards, conclaves, stickers. But I every deathwish deck I get feels soft. I fell like I’m trying to hard to pop it. It just doesn’t have that crispy feel to it.
Even though this comment is 9 months old, an independent hollow would be pretty good. I have a 8.0 baker with Indy regulars and I feel like the trucks make the board feel really heavy
