First off if he needed to be raised until year 18 he would have never been able to do what he did during his firs year in Tampa. Look at someone like Michael Phelps who has 23 gold medals in the 2000s which is by far the most ever. Both have high IQ for their respective sport, Brady is more clutch in finals and won more chips. Lebron is superior in strength, speed, agility etc. Lebron played Off and Def. Both players have longevity. But damn, 7 SB's wins in 10 trips is legit. Side note: I think it was crazy with Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic in tennis. They all damn near played the same era and all 3 could be the goat. To accomplish what each one did against each other while they were all in their primes is pretty amazing too

Novak is great, and arguably the greatest tennis player. That being said, there are other factors outside of championships that needs to be considered. What Federer meant to the game as it transitioned from Sampras and Agassi was deeply important. Tennis needed Federer whose game was aesthetically beautifully and he dominated the sport for a few years before Nadal, and subsequently Djokovic arrived on the scene. Federer, for me, is the most important tennis player this century because his dominance gave rise to Nadal and Djokovic.

They are contemporaries, i.e. LeBron and Steph are contemporaries and I’m sure many could make the argument that if not for Curry, LeBron would have won plenty more championships. ESPN’s poll is centered on the greatest athletes this century and you can’t say Djokovic without first acknowledging that Federer’s dominance gave rise to a Djokovic.

Unfortunately I think you can’t really use Olympic sports like swimming cause no one sees the three years in between Olympics. as a former D1 swimmer who idolized him until like I was 15, Phelps wasn’t as dominate as everyone thinks. Dude was a MONSTER during the Olympics, but he did A LOT of losing and non world record holding in between. Real ones know Ledecky was more dominant than Phelps was. Phelps’ best stroke (fly), he didn’t even have the world record for about 95% of his career in 100 fly…..it was held by a rival of his at university of Texas. Small things like that. Unfortunately he has a bit of extra yeast in his story. Still like top 10-15 for sure, but definitely not 1. I think it’s Tiger. That run he put together from 1999-2008, and the 1 vs everyone mentality that sport has, never seen anything like it. People were legitimately afraid and crumbling under pressure knowing that man was coming…….roger Federer single handedly ruined men’s American tennis (oh Andy roddick, what could have been).
