Carrie wasn't as witty, funny or beautiful as her mother! Carrie didn't talk to her mom for 10 years, Debbie tried to communicate, she was an awful daughter!! I wish Debbie had been my mom
Tom was great at what he did, but his laugh always struck me as somewhat insincere, which may in fact not have been the case. But I think that’s why it made him an easy target for parody. As for Debbie, she really was a great sport.
Tom wanted to *really* interview her, but she ducked him by performing, with boom-boom blah blah etc. for the studio audience. A good example of why this format was terrible for TS
Debbie is always great. She has given so much entertainment to us all. Yet today all your fans around the world are praying for a CHRISTMAS MIRACLE for U & your family. I have been praying for your beautiful daughter Carrie, who has also been such a tower of strength . Such a brilliant writer, actress, & great singer. My prayers are going out for God to give U a Gift to have Carrie heal . MAY THE LORD BE WITH YOU .GOD BLESS
Watch her ANYWHERE; Debbie's behavior here is consistent with every other talk show appearance. Check her out on Jack Paar's NBC special from the 1980s.
Here's the problem: this is from the "Coast to Coast" show with a live studio audience. So she was *performing*. That's fine for Johnny Carson or Jack Paar, but if this had been the older version of Tomorrow, the interview would have been much more quiet and sincere, without the boom-boom or talking to the audience, etc. I vastly would have preferrred that. But NBC insisted on another glitzy show.
