On the spear charge at 10:30 - the game won't put you in the spear insta-kill animation if doing so would put you in danger of a zombie attack. (This applies to regular and spear charge.) The spear charge essentially just guarantees the spear insta-kill animation. Because all the zombies you were running at were close to other zombies, an insta-kill would have put you at risk of a zombie striking you, so the game didn't trigger the animation.
On a somewhat related note, you're also more likely to get the insta-kill animation at a certain range with the spear. This is typically just before the zombie is technically within range. (Playing with aim outline on makes this easier to tell.) It still isn't a guarantee this way, but you can potentially chain insta-kills if the zombies are spaced out enough.
@@Awpenheimer the reason you could not get the animation is cause you are in debug mode using either no clip or ghost mode which disable the spear one shot animation. you can run into a crowd of zeds, with no cheats on; the animation will lock you and the swarm will be on you
Fun fact: the safety check has virtually no extra time, so if your animation speed changes after starting a spear insta-kill (like by becoming cold) then a zombie might just be able to grab you while you're stuck. It's happened to me twice.
It could also be that you were in ghost mode cause I’ve got it to work in the presence of other zombies not even 20 minutes ago. Though the other insta kill feature won’t trigger unless there are no zombies around. (Unless it bugs out, which can get you killed)
The thing about cars driving over corpses: your car takes damage from becoming airborne and landing when you go over corpses fast enough. Driving over corpses in itself doesn't damage the vehicle's components. There is an excellent short that demonstrates this, when I find the title I'll edit it into this comment.
@@Awpenheimer You may want to test again with all the other seats full. There is a redistribuition mechanic that moves things if a friend hops in for a ride, so I wonder if the seats were full if it would fail to allow the generator ?
Not just that your vehicle has more torque aswell i always tow vehicles away in reverse. Plus in reverse you have slightly more control over the towed vehicle since your stearing is closer to the vehicle, and your unbothered by being offroad even when towed loads are heavier then your own vehicle.
It's also about the gears. There's no second gear in reverse, and second gear is weaker than first. Plus the game automatically changes the gear, and it's quite dumb at it when off-roading.
6:40 as guy who moded this game into oblivion. zombies does not damage your car extra. every mile on road damage all your parts a bit, ca. 0.01% every mile off road damage your parts a lot ca. 1% depends on car and parts. old parts damage faster than heavy duty ones. if you are "airborne" even for a moment, landing will cause damage, that might be source of that myth. zombies act as "bumps" that might send you flying at high speed. that's why in general its good not to make piles of dead on roads you plan to use. unless you want to do a barrel roll, land on a tree and break both hands.
@@therealbahamut it will not work. I used modded items to give cars negative mass. They never fly, changing the floor level, they are only becoming completely unusable. Its not programmed in a way that allows anything drivable to go higher. If you want to use same thing, halving car mass make them zoom, like its space pod. its stupidly funny. I belive you need to wait for build 42, one of the news is ramp that lets cars go up and down.
@@nerfherder4284 it makes some sense. Junk you can find on the road in game would not be kind to most tires. We have clear visible potholes, big asss stones, corpses.,..
spoons and forks USED TOO speed up food consumption. but was abandoned when MP became a thing. driving over corpses is considered similar to driving OFF ROAD.
Partially true - eating speed did change w mp, but driving over corpses has a chance to cause the car to be airborne, which will dmg the car. The corpses themselves do no damage if driven over slowly.
On the fitness gain with peanut butter: the proper science would have been to have a third test with any non-protein rich food. To see if it's the moodle or the food that increased exp gain.
The game just straight up has a hidden protein meter, and your strength gains get amplified if you're very high on proteins, and get diminished if you're too low. If you install certain mods you can even see this meter.
@@Awpenheimeralso to make sure familiarity with the exercise was set to zero. That changes the experience gain and sitting down for a rest doesn't reset it 😂😂😂
It is more about moving in the zombie's direction while attacking instead of standing still or back tracking. If you miss you end up right next to it and are likely to get bit, and I think it just causes more damage and doesn't insta-kill depending on weapon skill.
A tip that I never see anybody mention anywhere is that you don't have to be on time for TV shows. If there are no TVs turned on in your current cell (tuned to any channel, not just Life and Living), you can watch shows up to the next show beginning. So you can consolidate your TV watching by holding off until a half hour before the next show and watch two in a row. Or if you happen to miss the time, you can still catch the whole show as long as you don't go anywhere that has a TV turned on.
I won’t say it’s true, but yesterday I started a new game and was like 8 am because I moved the start hour and suddenly my character started leveling up cooking, I think that’s the program for 6 am at your first day
When setting up a neighborhood I always turn off Tvs in other houses, so this explains why the double show keeps happening. I always wondered but never knew why it was happening. Thank you!
driving in reverse off-road does work better in poor weather conditions. driving forward in the rain can cause you to get stuck, but reverse works. it has saved me a few times
13:48 its not just for logs either, you can for example primary or secondary carry a refrigerator and massively reduce its weight as well as any other item in existence. 15:20 You can keep the boiling pot of water in the oven and still disinfect rags, bandages etc while its in there which reduces the amount of finagling you have to do.
the hot water one you don't even need to take the pot out of the oven, and it can be any item that can take hot water as well, I've used saucepans to sterilize my bandages and rags
7:55 I'd say that this mostly applies in the logic that it's "faster" to get to a manageable offroad speed, because reversing provides your vehicle with more torque, as the reverse gear is typically larger, especially the case for heavier vehicles, not so important for light vehicles, especially performance vehicles - this is also handy to know when you get bogged down by a horde, as reversing instead of powering through from the front can sometimes save your skin. (granted you didn't take sunday driver) so I suppose the original statement is not entirely wrong.
@@tibinicle As you said, when i go offroad and turn i often had to release the throttle and then push back down so that the game will switch back to first gear for me. Going in reverse avoids this problem.
As i understand the 4-log Stack thing, encumberance is a combination of the weight of an item *and* how difficult it is to hold/carry. 4 loose logs is much more of a hassle than the same 4 logs tightly lashed together.
Foraging is penalized from ANY equipment or clothes that go on or over your face (glasses, face bandana, motorcycle helmet), but the degree at which is does depends on the equipment. You can also boost your effectiveness by crouching as you forage.
Your suspension damages itself, whenever you go on rough terrain. Be it corpses or dirt. I never knew you can eat with a spoon before! Neither did I know about the lightsource one. Here's another one: You can cook a soup or stew with dirty water. Just put the ingredients into the dirty water and done. Once you cook it, the meal will be prepared like normal food and the heat will automatically sterilize the water. You can spare the step of sterilizing water first.
It bugs me that forks and spoons weigh .3, seems like a lot of encumbrance. Too much to carry one 😂 the animation is different which is fun and "civilized". You can also put a water cooler on the roof and plumb it into a sink, surround it with pots and pans to catch rain and periodically empty them all into the cooler, giving you fresh clean water with lvl 0 carpentry.
2:10 It's not really like that. The 50% increase you got is not due to the type of food, but do to the fact you were working out with a full stomac (well fed moodle).
You still have to attack, it isn't about running into them. I think moving in their direction while attacking does more damage in general. Not positive tho
You can put one of anything in a car seat, no matter the size. Antique ovens, water coolers, beds, doesn't matter how big 1 item is, the car seat will take it.
7:35 you can also do the same thing with wheely bins, as theyre just barelt big enough to fit them. thats how i get rid of dead zombies around my base all the time
Note; item removel through garbage bins only works if that setting is enabled. Also car seats can hold almost any item if they are heavier (like a fridge or something) but you can only store 1 item.
Placing a wood floor tile over water and covering with dirt makes a walkable tile that appears as water. (Note graphics settings have an affect on this exploit)
7:51 Depends on the vehicle. Some cars literally STOP off-road because it tries to use the second gear. But going in reverse is a guaranteed "first gear", and the car always gives its all. This is especially obvious with heavy vehicles pulling too much weight. Also, about the spears. Are you sure you don't have to be VISIBLE for it to work?
2:15 This bonus is multiplicative to all others. But it's important not to overdo it with a high-protein diet. Exceeding the protein reserve of 300 units will disable this bonus.
@walnzell9328 Basically if your character gas a certain amount of protein in them they get extra bonus from workouts. If you have too much protein however, you lose that bonus.
Looking at the driving over zombies part and not damaging your car. When rolling on grass the car constantly check for a chance at getting damaged And then bouncing at top speeds and slamming against the pavement is what probably damaged the suspension and muffler. I’d asses from those tests, rather than rolling over the zombie
Bonus tip to the log stacks: If you find regular Rope items, they do the same job, but weigh a lot less than the sheet ropes pre-stacking. 0.3 per rope isntead of 0.8 for a sheet rope.
Just keep the water in the oven. It consumes water as you do it. It also has to be boiling so once it cools down you won’t be able to do it anymore. So if you doing a large batch of rags or bandages it won’t stop in the middle of disintegrating them.
I didn't know about the F radial menu and I have almost 3k hours in the game lol. Thanks for that one!! I learned the log trick early on. It frustrates me when I watch playthroughs of people not using it 😅 It's even great for adding logs into a truck for large projects. I just make a bunch of rope then drop them onto the ground near the trunk. As I put logs in, I pick up the rope needed and repeat. Something else I learned is that actual rope weighs less than the rope made from cloth. Great video. Subbed
@@Awpenheimer Especially if you carry the log stacks to where you plan to build something and turn them into planks There, instead of having to haul a bunch of planks around everywhere...
The squats change animations a little too. At low level, the knees shake when you come back up. This goes away at higher fitness but not sure the exact level.
I think sprinting definitely reduces your odds of burning on fire tiles. You're just jogging. I don't know that you're 100% safe. Just that if you have to cross fire, that seems to be the best option.
8:00 it is faster to drive reverse off road whenever zomboid is doing the thing where your car will randomly slow down to 1 mph for literally no reason, for some reason reversing prevents the bug from what ive seen.
7:50 my guess its a must in case scenario if you have no ground to dig a grave or have no fuel to burn the bodys *AND* not have the patience to wait for the body to decompose on its own xD
I'm pretty sure you can disinfect rags in just water and since a filled saucepan acts as a water source, you can disinfect it in any water but I'm too lazy to double check.
For the generator one, you can actually put pretty much any heavy item in a car seat as long as there isn't anything else in the seat. This includes things like cast iron ovens and fully loaded backpacks.
13:51 you can even go more crazy. If you use Organized trait and have 3 militairy bags. These militairy bags have 36 place with organized. So they can fit 3 4stack logs. Now put a bag in each hand and one on your back. You can then also carry like 3 more in your inventory. This way you can carry 12 4stack logs. Or a total of 48 logs at once..... Its somewhat insane. But its also hard to setup. You ofcourse need organized trait and 3 militairy bags(these are rare). The other bag gets 35 spaces so it doesnt work. You need the militairy ones with 36 for this to work...
Backing up in a car through zombies *IS* in fact faster, but being on grass it doesn’t matter much, sometimes your vehicle can get stuck in grass going forward and backing up while still slow you’ll rarely get stuck.
The damage to your car driving over zombies makes sense. Rocking around like that would damage the suspension, so I'm guessing faster speeds are going to damage it more. And driving over them to begin with would probably damage things on the underside of the vehicle, so the muffler getting damaged makes total sense. Wouldn't be surprised if it also messed up the gas tank.
The generator, and the wood logs ones I didn't know until know and they're so useful. I've been playing for over a year and I'm still learning new stuff about this game
Regarding the #4 myth, its actually a little more complex that that. being protein deficient will actually give you a negative modifier on strength gain and having positive protein surplus will give yo an XP boost
The log stack thing is huge. I can't believe I didn't spot that. I could fit SO MANY LOGS into a duffel like that. Sounds like a massive ton of weight to carry but folks have to remember that PZ doesn't use "weight." It says "encumbrance." It's an abstract combination of mass and volume that gives you a rough idea of how cumbersome an item is to carry. That's why backpacks reduce that encumbrance: they don't actually make stuff weigh less but they free up your hands.
There is something about reverse thats OP. If youre running into zombies it slows you but if you reverse you can plow through them. Same goes for towing; if you are pulling forward especially offroad its so slow, but if you reverse it really picks up speed and you can move things much easier in reverse.
I'm not entirely sure how the fitness multiplier works, but I'm pretty sure you need positive protein values to build muscle faster. There are mods that let you see the hidden player values like exact calories, proteins, carbs, and fats/oils. I've found maintaining positive protein values extremely difficult in this game, particularly after the power goes out, and meat becomes scarce. I also don't know how it is I can eat several bowls of rice and potatoes, and still have low carbs. It's been challenging to keep his weight from going down. I wish I had that problem in real life. It's so easy to put weight on IRL.
For the fire run, I may be mistaken, but it looked like you only jogged (shift) not sprinted (alt). Not sure if it changes the result, but perhaps another test is needed?
14:14 I have more than 1.000 hours in this game, and I guess I've never tried holding down F, because I had no idea there was a radial menu for lights lol
The driving in reverse 100% works if your car is ever weighted down or wont go very good in the mud or off road/reverse will get you out easily. Every time I go the rose wood military base and load up my vehicle is usually to heavy to go forward and I have to drive out the whole way in reverse .
Addition: You can leave the pot of water in the oven when sterilizing bandages/rags. This way you make sure it stays hot in case you're doing more than only 3-4 pieces, otherwise it *can* happen that it cools down, interrupting the process of sterilizing.
i feel like the player zombie one might depend on the dead players strength stat, like if strength was maxed out, they might be able to get up with you standing on them
12:05 not only generators fit into a sit. A seat can hold a single item of any size as long as it is just a single item. And a backpack full of loot is counted as single item. So if you have spare large backpacks and spare seats you can combine the two to get more cargo space in a vehicle.
The off roader actually does work. But this is only when you get stuck between 2 tree sapplings and when you reverse you can get out a sticky situation and potentially save your life
the reverse offroad thing is kinda true, you wont be faster but you wont get stuck in reverse, same with other instances like towing cars. reverse gear sometimes actually does work better in some cases
Im pretty sure you can also place a firepit inside and light it as long as its two tiles away from any nearby walls. Unsure if a secondstory above will catch on firethough.
For the cleaning blood one, I haven't tested it myself, but I know that a sterilized rag acts like a bandage. It might have worked if a dirty rag, or a ripped sheet was used.
7:16 i dont think you did that test long enough, driving will damage the tires, but its slow, and very slow on asphalt, the small sample doesnt really work that well, but fair, driving over corpses, hitting buildings and other vehicles, and running over zombies does way more damage
Btw for the second to last one, the waters to be hot and after a while it gets cold when taken out of the oven. So just craft them while you’re looking in the over. While it’s on, of course and you can continue crafting sterile till you run out of water
Meat cleaver tip is something I didn't know and you just earned subscriber for telling me. Spear attach while sprinting is real thing, I've done that several times, but it is extremely inconsistent as far as I can say and not worth the risk at all.
In one of my playthroughs i literred part of the highway with zombie corpses (i was tired of crashing into zombies i could see and avoid in a 3D environment). I drove over them at higher speeds. Yes they damage the parts of your car that are close to the ground or responsible for the vehicle sticking to the road. Tyres, Suspension... Muffler... All that gets damaged. Heck driving too fast over a pile of zombie corpses even gets your car flipped.
That is not the corpses themselves damaging the parts, but that the car/tire went into the air and then made contact with the ground again that damages them. Even if it's a short hop. If you drive slowly over corpses you'll be fine.
I would love a video where you test out the Axe Man trait from the Lumberjack occupation. What I`m curious about is how the Axe Man trait effects Hand Axes compared to Short Blunt speed, and whether it effects the Wood Axe (and Pickaxe) swing speed comparing both the animations and the actual number of swings. i.e., does the trait only effect the animations or does it effect the actual weapon swing speed. If it speeds up the Wood Axe to anything even close to either the Axe without this trait, or a Long Blunt like the Baseball Bat or Crowbar then this is the single best weapon skill in the game, if not then it`s simply not worth it. Same goes for the Hand Axe compared to Short Blunt weapons. Ive seen videos on whether or not the Axe Man trait actually increases the swing speed by a full 25%, but have never seen a side by side comparison to other weapons swing speeds, or more importantly the Wood Axe with it`s 50% crit chance and 12X crit multiplier... And it`s really long animation. And with the way skill levels are calculated, at both level 0 and most importantly level 10. Also with fitness at 0 and 10 respectively as well. The wiki says that they are additive, so that should mean an additional 20% faster swing speed from fitness 10, and a 30% faster swing speed from the Axe skill at level 10 ADDED to the base swing speed of the weapon. So 50% faster? Or do those not affect the animation? The wiki also states that the Axe skill at 10 would add another 30% crit chance to each hit, bringing the Wood Axe up to an 80% crit chance, with a 12X damage multiplier... Next, how long does it take for the Brave trait(30% panic) to come close to the Desensitized trait(0% panic) that the Veteran occupation gets? Lets say less than 10% panic. Would it be the full 150 days? Or can we get down to single digit panic before then? Basically is Police Officer with Brave, or Veteran the better Firearms build?
Idk if this counts as a tip but if people don't already know you can also place flashlights on your belt and toggle the light on and off with F. Freeing your hands
um I use fire a lot at the start of my runs. I'll loot my starter home and then burn it down along with most of the zeds in the area. Keep them kind of close and you won't burn much and you always have an easy start.
it might be possible that for cleaning blood it would have to be a regular non-sterilized rag, since sterilized rags ive noticed are barred from use in every other thing that regular rags could be used for
This Insta Kill thing, charging at zombies with a spear, although doesn't it doesn't seem to work, does however, seem to allow you to clip right through the zombies. Makes me wonder if you can clip through full on hordes this way...
I think the reverse thing when offroad is only for people with sunday driver. Tbh never picked that one up because it seems like a pretty big liability lol
Even if it only is a VERY little ammount of damadge your car takes from driving over corpses you should be very carefull and slow down when you do so. Dirving even just a little too fast over a few can easily flip your car over. And then you'll have to find another one to flip it back the right way.
That first one reminded me of a few days ago. I was playing with 2 friends. One got bitten and died soon after. I pushed over the zombie. And I sat on it waiting for him to come back. Yes you can sit on zombies and they cant get up. It looked so stupid😂😂
