They're not "white" they're just pale skinned not all people with pale skin are "white" I'm Arab but I'm pale most asians are also pale it's just that people focus on westerners and they have no unique characteristics other than being white so it's always assumed that pale skinned characters with no unique characteristics are white
White people are Western Europeans (and their descendants like people from North America), that's it, it's that simple, end of the story, for example Africans are Africans, some have pale skin others have dark skin, same thing with any other race like Hispanic, Latino or Japanese. Ultimately this whole discussion doesn't matter, especially because people can't decide if Asians are White or not. Which isn't surprising because "White" "Black" and any other color you can think of are entirely arbitrary classifications that encompass numerous different ethnicities based solely on the look of someone. This is why we have absurdities like grouping Germans and Spaniards together as "White" despite completely different backgrounds and genetics. Also "Coding" is a very bad standard to use, you will wind-up with absurdities based on stereotypes. You can stick to the direct statements that are far stronger, such as when you talked about the Saiyan race as a whole. You can also just talk about the direct inspiration which is what you did, and that too is a far stronger argument. The Stylization argument was also good, a majority X country making stylized characters will primarily produce X characters. The only way around that is if it could be shown the country despite being majority X hates the majority X population, which is a impossible argument to make about any Asian country.
What you say is true, at the end of the video even I have to acknowledge that this argument is dumb from the get-go. Race is an extremely arbitrary social construct most of the times, I was tempted to go into the weeds a bit, things like "Honarary Aryans" etc. But maybe I'll save that for a future video. I think the super saiyan arguments are by far the dumbest argument for goku to be white. His hair is yellow explicitly because it’d show contrast in the manga. In a black and white manga, having a character’s hair go from black to white is the most obvious and drastic change you could make to visually communicate a change. Plus it also made it so toriyama’s editor didn’t have to ink in his hair which given stuff toriyama’s hatred for inking stuff like first form cell’s spots is in character for the man. Plus in the manga the super saiyan eyes aren’t blue so much as they are green, look at stuff like the volume 33 cover, weekly shonen jump issue 36/37(1992), chapter 323 or the title page of chapter 411. Toriyama consistently draws the eyes of super saiyan closer to teal or green than he does blue. I’m not too suprised at how stupid this argument is though because dragon ball fans were never known to even watch their show or read their manga, let alone look at the eye color of their characters.

Goku is one of the more obvious examples of an anime character who is asian, due to his chinese inspiration. But as for the rest of them I can see the confusion. For example, Saber from Fate is (Spoilers) King Arthur, the former King of England. The character is in universe a white woman, but her face template is no different than the native Japanese characters. But her design was in a thumbnail, and used in a video where the youtuber argued they are all Asian, even though she isn't. He used her image next to Sailor Moon in his argument. The same thing happened with people using designs from Seven Deadly Sins. That anime takes place in England thousands of years ago, and everyone in it is a native. Making them all white british (except for a few) But they are drawn no different than asian characters, in the SAME anime! Same thing for Yuri on Ice, the second lead Victor is white. If you're white or asian, you can pretty much claim any character until the anime says otherwise, because there are literally no physical differences between them. His character inspiration is Chinese, the original Dragon Ball's location is based on China, he even does Kung Fu Fighting Styles in the opening theme song. This was long before the idea he was an alien came into play, it's pretty obvious he's supposed to be Chinese. Even Chichi wears a traditional Chinese dress. There's too much evidence to ignore, his tail made him stand out as abnormal. But outside of that, he would appear as an average Chinese boy. Bulma looks more white then he does

The Saiyans are so unbelievably asian coded, it should be apparent to anyone with working brain cells. The fact that their hair colors are almost universally black and brown, and the fact that the ordinary saiyans are clearly (exaggerated) but almost one to one direct parallels with asian people in the Broly movie should end this debate. Another reason why the Saiyans are Asian coded is how having different color hair like blonde or red hair is often seen as rebellious in a lot of Eastern countries.
If Saiyans have any other hair color than Black or brown, it could be mistaken for a transformation (As DB does hair color changes whem it comes to new forms). Plus, In real life, black and Brown hair are the most common hair colors. So, the black hair point you made probably has nothing to do with asian descent.
Some people are nuts, just because characters are not black, it doesn't automatically mean they are white. Like ya know a lot of people on the planet have light skin without being caucasian. Japanese people for example are also light skinned, but they are not white caucasians. Generally, when authors write characters, they usually write them to be like people they see around themselves. European authors wrote white characters, asians wrote asians, africans wrote arfican characters. It's a very recent thing that all the different countries and cultures started writing racially diverse characters.

People didn't have a problem with Evolution Goku being white being there were FAR more problems with that movie. Starting with Goku being a high schooler living a typical school boy life for the most part prior to plot. He doesn't look like Goku (beyond skin color). He doesn't act like Goku. In the episode of Bardock tv special, Bardock's crew each one of them had a different skin tone like in example tora had a red skin, borgos dark kind of a gray skin... Considering that he part of the inspiration came from Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee (specially Goku's two fighting styles), I wouldn't be mad at all if they picked an actor that looked somewhat like them, specially in the acting: he can be more like Jackie when he's goofing around and when he's fighting lightly (being acrobatic and testing various strategy to both warm up and study the enemy) and like Bruce when' he's serious (more direct and powerful). There could also be an argument for having the him mixed to play more in the "alien raised on Earth" argument. Blooma (or Bulma) should definitely be western, cause that's what she is, Chichi Chinese and... Vegeta I'm not sure, he could work in both cases, specially because his original design is basically the "Anti-Goku" - Short vs Tall, Nobile vs Peasant, Ego vs Impulse, etcetera... Piccolo I see him a lot like an Indian, but at the end of the day, the actor would have prosthetics and paint so no biggy. I'll also suggest an approach similar to "The One" starring Jet Li, he plays the both protagonist and antagonist, but the beauty is that they approach fighting in two opposite manners, one is evasive and fluid, the other is straightforward, perfect example. Also they specifically avoided doing characters moving superfast because it would've look too goofy, so they slowed down the background, while they fought mostly at regular speed, selling the idea of fighting at super speed. Doing so, plus the obvious aid of CGI, could work greatly, for a live action, but I wouldn't use wigs, cause they look too stiff and fake, if anything I'd be okay if the hair where (at least in some cases) CG, so that they look the part but they also flow like regular hair. And no, I don't want them to have super-short hair, it doesn't work at all!
Vegeta is a curious case because Toriyama did say he gave him attack names in English "Final Flash" "Big Bang Attack" because they suit his personality. Perhaps Toriyama saw it as braggadocious? 🤔

Another thing that helps us understanding how he saw characters is in their names, when it comes to both Westerners and Extraterrestrial, he uses a lot of katakana because in modern Japan, that kana, is used for foreign words that don't have kanji representations.

Dragon Ball, TMNT, Sonic, etc. I don't understand why people obsess over something so stupid. If Goku had to be a race, he would most likely be one from an Eastern country. A live action dragon ball should honestly only be CGI realistic... Using body suits for realistic animation, but using cgi for more detailed and realistic designs. To make him some chiseled white guy like Cavill would just be off putting. There's tons of art out there that depict the character's likeness in a very animated realistic style. We have already learned our lesson witj Evolution, why would ppl want another white guy to play Goku? Or any other character for that matter. Alita battle angel depicted the character's look to be in-line with the anime/manga. So to have the characters look more realistic and more traditional to their respective art, it wouldnt hurt to use cgi as their main facial structures.

A lot of Dragon Ball characters feel quite internationally-coded. Goku is obviously coded Chinese as discussed here, Bulma feels very American (as does the Red Ribbon Army, although you could get more variety out of individual members of the faction), Roshi gives the vibes of an old Japanese dude spending his retirement in Okinawa, several characters are Shaolin or other form of Buddhist monks, so they'd also be presented as Chinese. Yamcha is a desert bandit, so despite his complexion you could make an argument for several regions, etc. In fact, I would say more of the cast is implied as Chinese than any other nationality, even if these countries don't exist in the same way as the real world. Oolong literally dressed like a member of the Chinese Communist Party! Which should be a no-brainer because kung-fu films were such a clear inspiration for the series as a whole. And that's before we even get outside of our core cast of characters!

Goku was and will always be Japanese to me. I can see the Chinese inspiration with Bruce Lee and Wu Kong ofc and I think his children would be mixed Japanese and Chinese with Chi Chi sounding like a Chinese name to me. Not to mention Goku's aesthetic in his clothing, hair, face/skin tone doesn't match that or a white character aka Bulma he looks like an East Asia Man, and as his creator was Japanese I assumed him to be Japanese. For any anime I automatically assume the character is Japanese unless they're literally not I.e Dutch, Yoruichi, Bulma, Star and Stripe, Mirio, Griffith, Melissa Mao among countless other examples.

Goku, going from End of Z to GT is actually really cool. It seems during his training with Uub, Goku eventually decided to stop being Asian, and instead opted to become Latino, only reverting back to his roots while in SSJ4. Just glad he came to the winning team.

And I gotta love how Goku is based on Chinese mythology, has spiky black hair (which is a stereotypical Asian quality), wears Chinese clothing, engages in Martial Arts, has an Asian name, etc but apparently he's still called White? 💀 Whenever the topic of hair/eye color is brought up in anime, I love how they will accept magic powers but not the fact that these stylized characters that don't look like any real person, somehow can't have differing eye/hair colors even if they're crazy like purple/red. I mean, White people don't "own" hair/eye colors as dyes/contacts exist AND ANYONE can have naturally colored hair/eyes even when you exclude Albinoism. What's funny is these people NEVER argue when a character is Black in Anime even if they have blonde hair and blue eyes but somehow that's applied to Asian characters for some reason? Oh, wait, this is coming from the modern-day crowd that just wants White people to be the MC in everything and will call any story with a Black character/female character "woke". This is coming from people where you have a Black character like Nessa from Pokemon and they make racist art or literally make a mod to whitewash her ffs 💀 Finally, I want anybody reading to look up the character Genesis Rhapsodos from Final Fantasy. He looks like every other Final Fantasy protagonist and has light skin, blue eyes, and red hair. I guarantee you these types of people would call him White. Now, let me clue you in on the fact that HE IS LITERALLY DIRECTLY BASED ON THE JAPANESE POP SINGER GACKT 💀 Oh "Naruto isn't Asian he looks nothing like an Asian". Also, their eye color reflects their bending technique but sure mate. Overall, their "points" are essentially racist at best and goes to show how narrow their view on Asian people really are as if they fit neatly in a box all the while trying to make themselves feel better by telling themselves "HAHA WE GOTS ANOTHA WHITE CHARACTER. Goku being an alien, would not make him automatically white either. White skin is the default option for which every other race is derived from. It is one setting of many. Aliens don't have any higher chance of looking white than they do looking Asian

Never thought about the race of anime characters, as something i identify with, but people i talked to have brought it up. Usually when somebody wants to claim a fictional character for the purpose of identifying themselves with it, i laugh at them, call them cringe and stop talking to them.
