I do remember one of the previous criticisms around the daily dozen is that they don't distinguish between types of pesticide. They basically consider all pesticides the same, whereas one type of pesticide might confer more risk per amount. Also, the EWG is a group that promotes organic food, so they have a very clear conflict of interest to promote organic foods over conventional regardless of evidence.

And what about the herbicides? Do you know that oats and wheat are sprayed directly with herbicides so they can be dried out for earlier harvest? Oats have the highest load of glyphosate of any other food. They do a lot of testing of individual foods and claim they are well below acceptable limits. Do they test an entire diet for a day or week and see what the total intake is? Glyphosate is claimed to leave the body within 3 days, but if you keep eating the stuff every day it will accumulate. "They" decided for us how much pesticide, herbicide, insect parts, and rat droppings are acceptable for us to be eating. My goal is to be eating none of those things or as close to none as I can get.. The World Health Organization considers glyphosate "probably carcinogenic to humans," whereas the US EPA has found glyphosate "not likely to be carcinogenic to humans." Ultimately, there is no consensus in the scientific community about what level of glyphosate consumption or exposure-if any-is safe, and more research is needed. This is from the National Institutes of Health: "However, Roundup was found in this experiment to be 125 times more toxic than glyphosate. Moreover, despite its reputation, Roundup was by far the most toxic among the herbicides and insecticides tested. This inconsistency between scientific fact and industrial claim may be attributed to huge economic interests, which have been found to falsify health risk assessments and delay health policy decisions" I don't know why Roundup is 125 times more toxic than glyphosate, because Roundup contains glyphosate. The GMO crops are sprayed with Roundup (Roundup ready crops). The GMO seeds are sold by Monsanto, as is the Roundup. Probably in a more dangerous form or other ingredients in Roundup. Not sure. So according to the NIH, Roundup is the most toxic of all herbicides and we're eating that? Do I need to mention that all the studies showing how safe Roundup is are paid for or conducted by Monsanto? Other studies by independent organizations are discounted.

The EWG is run by a guy who pays himself $300,000 a year from the donations to his nonprofit. Along with another dozen executives who make between $100,000 and $300,000 with a massive incentive to lie to you. Who would send them money if they say everything is totally fine and there's nothing to worry about (or pay them for)
@jessicamoore6022

Until recently, I didn't worry about organic food etc, but I now actually care about it - not for my own health, I am not scared because I know that the country I live on has a high level of food standards. Organic is more about reducing the amount of pesticides/insecticides etc for our environment!
@felisd
@felisd Год назад
It's not though... Organic farming also uses pesticides and insecticides as well. They just aren't allowed to use many of the synthetic ones. There is also no indication that they use less of them either. If anything, the types they use were ditched by conventional farming as being less effective than those being developed now. Which is why it's more expensive, I'll bet. Organic needs to have smaller-yield crops due to the farming techniques being used, and therefore is not as efficient as conventional farming.

If the choice is between eating conventionally grown produce and eating less produce- as the evidence cited in this video demonstrates-then the conventionally grown produce is better. Not everyone can afford all-organic produce and others live in areas where it isn’t available.

Clever video and good arguments. Some commenters fail to understand that this video is not against organic produce but unjustified hysteria.
@djamilawilschke7259
@djamilawilschke7259 4 месяца назад
there is no hysteria if you look at the organic vs. conventional produce proportion in our supermarkets - maybe a bit more hysteria would be good to get consumption directed for more sustainable farming - pesticides and chemicals are simply overloading our natural habitats not just for humans…also don’t consume information blindly and look for more nuanced and un-funded studies…once educated you’ll make your own choices … in the end it’s you choice and priorioty and some simply don’t care about the impact we have on our only earth as we might not live long enough to see the long lasting effects…

Regardless what short term (less than 5 years) animal studies the EPA conducts, the human body was not meant to ingest any kind of pesticides. I'd be more interested to see rates of cancer among a population of vegetarians in a 30 year longitudinal study.

With toxicity in mind, you'd think farmers using these chemicals would be dropping dead in epic numbers if they were really that dangerous. I know a famer in Canada using chemical sprays on his crops and he's healthy as can be at 75 years old. His wife, my grandma, is also very healthy at 80 years old. I think it's great that we're untrusting of chemicals and trying to shut these practices down, but I think we worry more than needed on this topic.

I feel the toxicity level for individuals also depends on one's metabolic health and resilience. For example if someone has high inflammation, genetic predisposition to poor detoxification pathways, impaired gut microbiome, poor sleep, stress, alcohol consumption and organ damage or perhaps battling an acute illness then it may be wiser to reduce avoidable exposure to additional potentially harmful compounds - but not at the detriment of reducing your overall consumption of vegetables
@jjbud3124
@jjbud3124 11 месяцев назад
Does anyone measure the accumulated load of pesticide over time? How much remains in the body and not metabolized away. Monsanto LOVES this report. I bought some blueberries last week and they tasted like they were freshly sprayed with some chemical. I washed them with Dawn soap and rinsed well and the taste was gone.. European countries have banned glyphosate herbicides. Monsanto guidelines for glyphosate commercial users is for full respiratory and skin protection. This is not a requirement for home usage. Glyphosate, according to WebMD may cause cancer, it is harmful if you get it on your skin. What is one of the fastest growing diseases? Cancer. The EPA claims it is safe. EPA is run by an ex-Monsanto exec. This report is garbage IMHO. Nourishable is probably reading from a newly released Monsanto sponsored feel-good report. GMO foods are another story. Most are fine, except as they are used to allow more pesticide and herbicide to be used on them, but the story is still out on whether adding a fish gene to a tomato could cause an allergic reaction in those allergic to fish. If glyphosate is dangerous if you get it on your skin, what do you think it does to a strawberry that you then eat? What if glyphosate is in almost every food you eat and you eat that food every day of your life. GMO and glyphosate are Monsanto's scheme to become very wealthy by controlling the entire food system in the US and as much of the world as they can without regard to the consequences - since they are long term and not immediately apparent. Their tactics with farmers are mafia-like.

in Australia we had over and over food recall like spinach???, there was high toxicity from pesticides but there was no indication what it was or where it comes from// a video was showing on you tube how farmers has to wash produce like spring onion in chemicals. is there an organic produce when there is cam trail going on all year around.
@felisd
@felisd Год назад
I don't know about Australia, but here in Canada and the US, most of the recalls are due to listeria and e coli contamination - which is not due to pesticides at all, but due to fertilizaton methods and not cleaning their produce adequately afterwards. And the recalls have been pretty evenly spread between conventionally grown and organic veg. (Also, you wash your veg in chemicals before every use as well - did you know that? A chemical called "water".)

Did you justy say "No link to health risk"? How do you know? Are there studies proving this? You cannot say that if you do not have evidence. You say the "dirty dozen" method is flawed. But your assessement that chemical residue has "no link to health risk" is very flawed, given that any harmful man-made chemical should not be consumed at all, no matter how small the amount may be.

Really nice job walking thru this… it’s unfortunate that an organization like EWG spends time to demonize and confuse consumers about fruit and vegetable consumption. The reality is consumers should be eating more fruits and vegetables and this does not accomplish this common goal! Both conventional and organic use pesticides… it is a tool in a farmers tool box and farmers do not use them unnecessarily. It doesn’t matter whether you choose organic or conventional as long as you’re choosing a diet rich with fruits and vegetables! Thanks for calling this out for what it is…misinformation!

"Organic" is a government mandated term for foods grown without chemicals. If I have to explain, it means food grown by organic methods, i.e., animals eat the same foods they would eat if they were wild without added grains, antibiotics and hormones (which are passed on up the food chain), vegetables and fruits get natural fertilizers like manure and composted vegetable waste, and with safe pest control, so that unnecessary chemicals don't get passed up the food chain. But you probably know that and were just trying to be clever?

@@jjbud3124 Nope everything is a chemical and the most organic pesticides are just slightly weaker versions of the non organic ones applied in absurd quantities. Lets take pyrethrins an insecticide naturally found in a species of flowers, that is one of the most widely used pesticides and ding ding ding it occurs naturally. Just like the majority of the pesticides we use we synethize them from naturally occurring pesticides found in nature. Natural does not equal non toxic other wise asbestos a naturally occurring mineral would have nooooooo issues being used, but hmmm it does 😂
