Woah. The idea that seed oils drive insulin resistance and cause cells to crave sugar deserves it’s own interview Dr. Baker!!! I hope you have her on again to explore that!
Regarding oxalates, there is at least one medical journal article by pediatric nephrology specialists reporting case studies of children with kidney stones and renal dysfunction seemingly from drinking a lot of almond milk which is a rich source of oxalates. Four years ago, I shared a link to this article with folks active in keto and carnivore Twitter communities and it was retweeted to some extent. Seems Sally Norton's knowledge base is still very relevant.
I love to see any interviews with Dr. Cate Shanahan. I just finished listening to her latest book, "Dark Calories". I think it was a 16 hour listen and to be honest, I still wanted more.
I have been Clean Keto and now mostly carnivore for 5 years. No seed oils, and very low carbs. I do have a home made chocolate chip cookie or a piece of home made sourdough bread now and then though. I have lost 200 lbs. I was diabetic, on 300 units of insulin per day, AICs in the 14, I was going blind, needed knee replacement, I had leg ulcers, All those problems have gone away now, and I am no longer diabetic (and yes I ate cake on my birthday and no high sugar so I am not a diabetic) I have had 5-6 strokes in the last year of so. The last one was in my cerebellum, that one was a bear to recover from, but I am back to normal and back to work, but keto/carnivore really helps with the recovery from a stroke. I have high BP still. It has been high since I was a teenager, and I am 50 now. Without any medication it will get to over 300 systolic. On 9 medications they get it down to 160 or so, but my body always feels like it is fighting it to try to stay alive. I have no energy on the meds and my muscles feel like jell-o, like I have been lifting weights and they are saying NO MORE. I have had a CTA scan (showed no blockages) and a CAC score of 0. I have had stress tests, nuclear scans, etc. No problems. I finally got in to see a great cardiologist who specializes in Resistant Hypertension in another city. He takes his time and listens to me. We have been working on it. He says your EKG looks good so I don't think you have PH (Pulmonary Hypertension). I stopped him and said, Yeah that one was fine, but when my BP hits 190 or so my T-Wave inverts and my S-Wave does something weird and my P wave peaks or something, and my heat is slightly enlarged on the right side instead of the left side. I have over 20 EKG's that show it, but my vegan cardiologist in Springfield said not to worry about it. I got copies of the EKG's and sent them over to him, and come to find out those are the primary indicators for pulmonary hypertension, it is rare, but it is treatable with medication. I have another $1100 test and see him again in 2 weeks.
@@frugalprepper So what the heck do you think is going on that makes your BP want to be so sky high then? You seem to be doing all the right things! You've cured youself of T2D for goodness sake yet you still have these problems? 5 strokes? Geez, that's terrible! I guess all the strokes you've had are mainly caused by your high BP huh? I've been mostly carnivore/keto for 6 months now. I never had diabetes but my BP went down 10 or 15 points systolic, & my weight dropped 10kg & has stayed there. Your poor thing all this doesn't make sense! Fatigue & aches etc? Could it be something with your endocrine system maybe? How's your thyroid stats? I dunno I'm no expert at all, but there could be an underlying issue common to all your problems, which are not likely to be connected with your diet. Maybe present your case to one of these carnivore doctors like Chaffee, Berry, or even Prof. Bart Kay? I wish I knew what else to suggest for, but I wish you well, & wellness!
I deduced that my husband's uncontrollable blood pressure is most likely due to cadmium toxicity. He had industrial exposure and 30 years of smoking. Cadmium is a heavy metal that competes in the body with zinc. When you are deficient in zinc your body can use cadmium instead but this makes tissues rigid. The doctors I have talked to do not want to test him. Instead I supplement zinc and trace minerals and very slowly over time his blood pressure is improving. He does not take their blood pressure meds because they are only slightly helpful and have so many side effects. We tried the medical intervention route and it just made him sicker and almost killed him. He won't give up carbs but he got off all seed oils and most of the time grains. Just lately he has started to eat a lot of red meat. I hope he will join me on carnivore someday. Keep researching yourself the answers are out there. God bless
...we no longer test on healthy people....last 50 yrs -/+... Yikes! Ive been avoiding as best as can, eating out, even local diner, (makes me feel bad my neighbors, but...🙁) to have better idea WHY.... 💖 thank you. 🙏🏼
I need to listen to Dr. Shanahan more regularly, so I can be reminded how terrible seed oils are. I eat carnivore most of the time, but still occasionally drift into keto junk, which is almost pure garbage. I love what she said about Chipotle.
@Kwildcat13 Burger on a bun (carbohydrates, seed oils)? With sauce/ketchup/mustard (carbohydrates, seed oils, emulsifiers)? With cheese or processed "cheese food" (horrible)? With french fries (cooked in toxic oxidized oil)? I doubt most restaurants have even an ounce of real butter in the fridge.
This is fantastic! Dr. Cate's explanation of how/why someone becomes a "sugar addict" also explains why the "energy model" people have managed to conclude that adding in healthy carbs back to your diet will reduce insulin resistance. They just aren't seeing the big picture. (I only own 3 of this type of book, and Dr. Cate's new one is the 3rd one (and in case you're wondering, the other two are from Paul Saladino and Rob Wolf). To me, her theory seems to be able to explain everything (why the "Mastering Diabetes" people can get good results at the same time as carnivores like Dr. Baker also do).
If every cell has cholesterol. Our nervous system is built from cholesterol. Our reproductive ability stems from cholesterol, then cholesterol raising foods seems pretty damn important for our health. Cholesterol lowering foods seem like a way to neuter the human animal. Quite literally turning them into bed bound vegetables (all puns intended)
Yeah and next you will be able to time travel and have the powerball numbers a day early. Everyone wants to believe their diet is the best. I havent eaten meat for 30 years. And im thriving. More muscular and a killer in the bedroom at 61. We all have our stories..
What I do not undersand is why Dr Cate recommends endogenous carbs when the T2D blood is full of glucose?? How does eating some carbs allow the cells to open up for glucose when the blood is already full of it? If I can get the answer to this question I may start eating some above ground vegies. If anyone can explain please answer here...
Exactly. And the most appalling is that our govt that is supposed to be representing ‘we the people’ are actively working with industry to DESTROY us. They exploit us. You’d think a healthier slave would be a better deal for them. Not so. Turns out healthier slaves are more apt to object to being slaves.
Seed oils are likely the reason there has been an exponential increase in androgyny within the last century. There are fats in ovaries & sperm. Just sayin.
Seed oils are probably the reason there has been an exponential increase in androgyny in the last century. Ovaries, sperm & fetuses require fat. Just sayin.
@JasonActualization calories don't matter because you don't know what a calorie is. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If the CICO model were true, you wouldn't be able to disprove it. So I'll state one example: anyone at any time can disprove it, all you need to do is eat a surplus of around 6k or more calories of only meat (carnivor) and try to gain weight (fat). If CICO were indeed true then you should notice some fat gain after 2 weeks or so. In reality, you won't be gaining any fat, but losing it, because CICO is false after doing this simple experiment. The end.
@kinggrimm4338 Would you be willing to make a video documenting this process, will daily morning weigh-ins? What you aren't accounting for is the fact that calories from protein are nearly nullified after accounting for their digestive thermic effect, use to replenish hair/skin/nails, enzymes in the body, and the fact that few amino acids are even able to undergo gluconeogenesis. So your experiment must use a fatty cut of meat, and your calculation of caloric intake must assign 9 kcal per gram of fat, 4 kcal per gram of carbohydrate, and not assign any net calories per gram of protein. Go about your daily routine, being no more or less active than you usually are, and eat an additional 1000 calories per day (~111 grams of additional fat) while documenting your daily weight for 2 weeks, and then kindly report back with your results.
This was great! 82 years past my expiration date wonder how much of my body is made up of them. Wonder if it added to my cheddar cheese? My kidneys are great nurse bring me the test results which I don’t have a clue of understanding. I wonder what is causing the high rate of osteoporosis in persons my age? Carnivore 7 years.
Osteoporosis is caused by a lack of animal meat protein. Dr Baker interviewed a lady with spinal osteoporosis which reversed on a carnivore diet. Protein is needed to build bones not calcium as we've been told. A lot of older people are not eating much meat.
I agree with the core message but she is all over the place (=wrong) in the details, eg. biochemistry. Soybean oils is almost entirely Linoleic acid so by her reasoning, if it is not linoleic acid, then soybean oil would be fine. It's not. Linoleic acid (LA) is indeed bad and it's not only due to oxidation. LA gets converted to arachidonic acid (ARA) which is a precursor to many bad inflammatory chemicals. In fact what NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen,...) do is block the conversion of ARA to pro inflammatory substances by blocking COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. However omega-3 from plants, alpha linolenic acid (ALA) which "replaces" to an extent LA in canola oil activates said above metabolic pass. so yeah canola oil is probably worse than soybean oil at least in terms of fatty acids. And that is just one thing that makes LA bad, on top comes how it affects your mitochondria and leads to insulin resistance. EDIT: and about reheating food. the most common bacterial cause is from S.Aureus which happens to release a very potent toxin that leads to the known effects of food poisoning. the bacteria grows during the cool down period of the food and if not properly cooled the entire time and also during the heating period especially if slow. The toxin is heat stable so high heat doesn't help. Given most peoples "kitchen hygiene" or better said lack thereof I bet it indeed is food poisoning. And yeah leaving it out of the fridge to cool down for 2h is totally enough time for this to happen.
No offense, but that sounds like a lot of gobbledigook. The problem with soybean oil is that it is soybean oil, not that it is linoleic acid. Omega-6 is an essential molecule, as is arachadonic acid, which, btw, you get plenty of every time you eat a steak..
@@shogunofharlem8240 that makes no sense as soybean oil is about to 90% linoleic acid. The "essential fats" is also one of many bullshit things we just take for granted even though the research it is based on is wonky. omega-3 is for sure more important and the essential part is very likley only relevant for kids. adults tend to have enough stored, especially of omega-6.
What about reheating beef tallow or pork fat/lard? I often do that when making burger patties and bacon. I assume longer resistance, but wondering how many times I could reheat them 47:45 never mind, got part of the answer, although I don't deep fry
ALL I KNOW IS WHAT HELL I FEEL AFTER I EAT ANYTHING THAT IS PREPARED WITH OR HAS SEED OILS IN IT. NO ONE CAN TELL ME THE NERVE PAIN AND GUT ISSUES I HAVE PHYSICALLY IS NOT FROM THE SEED OILS. THE WORST THING IS TO BE CLEAN FROM THEM FOR YEARS NOW AND BE LIED TO AT A RESTAURANT .... I KNOW HOW ILL AND PAINFUL IT IS.... SO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE THAT THINK THIS IS BUNK - TOO FREAKIN BAD.
I wish there was a restaurant that used no seed oils, additives, msg, or highly processed foods. I wonder if it could be a viable business. I think it would especially in more metropolitan areas because of customer density. Maybe Rivero would make it happen. And profit too.
I would, yes. All fish oil supplements have alarming levels of oxidation. The best thing to do, which costs about $1 per day, is to eat 200 grams of wild caught salmon per week, consumed for example in two 100 gram portions throughout the week. DHA is the true essential Omega-3 fat, not linoleic acid.
@@TidyWhitey I assume all fish have them. But I don't eat fish every week. Much has been made about the need for Omega 3s, so I'm just wondering if supplementing is beneficial or not.
In nature nuts and seeds were seasonal. When I was a child in Newfoundland we only had nuts at Christmas. In the shell and imported. Took a while to eat. Pumpkin seeds in the fall from the jack-o-lantern.
