Debussy - Clair de Lune | Played on an Out of Tune Piano

Since Covid came along, I've had ample time to practice piano again. This is my three-month completion video of Clair de Lune. I made a few mistakes and I am still slow in a couple areas, but I still hope you enjoyed this playthrough DC al Fine.
As cliche as it may sound, Clair de Lune has always been one of my favorite songs. I had thought about learning it in the past, but I was scared away after watching @Rousseau's playthrough. It was so fast, complicated, and looked well beyond my skill level. When I started learning my goal was to finish the first section. I took it one note at a time and was slowly able to piece it together. In a couple days I finished the first section and decided to keep going. The learning process became addictive. Every morning when I woke up I would practice for an hour or two, typically the exact same chord progression over and over again until my hand got tired or I got too frustrated. This piece is important to me because it showed me that if I set my mind to something new, I can learn it. I have had no previous training or piano lessons prior. I can't read music and I most certainly didn't know what an arpeggio was before this. I hope you enjoyed this piece. Let me know what I should learn next. Maybe I will make another cover, hopefully with a piano that's actually in tune.

I would kill for a genre of piano like this… I don’t know what it might be called or if anyone would fully embrace it, yet, hearing the keys and strings holding near chaos while staying in melody has such a movement on me and in everything and everyone here.. it’s a perfect harmony of false harmonization. Thank you, for this piece of magic and wonder.

Yeah, I love it. It gives me a weird feeling of devastation and dread, while still sounding hopeful. Like something is falling apart, but still able to be put back together, if barely. It's a weird feeling, but I love it. Music played on an out of tune piano completely changes the feeling and emotion, and I think the piano is the only instrument that can even pull it off. On most instruments, being out of tune means the all (or most) of the instrument is out of tune by the same amount, while on the piano every single note can be differently out of tune.

I love untuned piano music. It just makes it sound… nostalgic? Just. Familiar in a way. Like those photos with nobody in them of playgrounds or childrens play areas. Familiar. But like something is missing, like how that memory will never be the same from when you first had it. Like when you laugh a lot about a joke but when you hear it again you dont laugh. Like the humor is missing,

I both hate and love this because the piano in my cousin’s old house sounded just like this, very out of tune and old. I had always wanted to learn how to play it but only got to watch as my uncle played some small parts of songs, and I was really mesmerized by it. I miss that house, I miss that piano and I miss my uncle, but I will always love an untuned piano cover. This cover is beautiful. Thank you

I'm under the impression that when the piano is untuned, the strings have more room to vibrate freely/over an extended period of time, which enhances the level of sympathetic resonances you get when playing with the sustain pedal. That, and (amateur way of describing things incoming) since they are not tuned in unison anymore, each of them are vibrating with their own unique personality (compare it to a choral where everyone have "the same kind of voice" vs a choral with mixed voices).

I was somewhere. I think it was glacier national park at a campground. There was like a food court but very rustic and there was a pool and arcade section as well as pool tables. It was a fairly quiet evening and their was a family mumbling near the low drone of the pinball. There was a piano sitting in the corner and I went to check if it had worked. It was the most echloey untuned piano I'd ever heard. Q fewinutes later my brother was talking and my brain drifted to this. I couldn't play it and i was looking at musecore but my phone was actually recording. That recording is somewhere on the internet and I often go back to it because it reminds me of one of those moments that just happen. You can't force it, you don't know when it's happening, and there's no pomp and circumstance. The out of tune piano isn't special because it's ethereal or sounds of an older time or place, it's special because of the literalness. It's real, it's not perfect, it's not preordained, it's not stylistic, it's the realness that encapsulates what living day by day is like.

POV: you just came back from a 9-5 job, your tired as hell, and you open your front door, walk into nobody at home, you take a cold beer from the fridge that wasnt stocked for 2 weeks, you lay on the couch, sad and tired, you open the bottle and you hear the distinctive pop that you hear almost every single day after work. you can here the pieces of tax papers sliding through the floors as it falls over. you turn the TV on to watch the commercial channel since there isnt anything else to watch, you start to snooze over and you suddenly hear the noise of the piano that you havent taken care of in over 20 years. you wake up in this lucid dreamland, the sky is a purple and blue hue and the clouds are pink. there is one house and its a pleasant blue color, almost reminding you of your childhood. you knock to see if anyone is there. you get greeted by a small dog that looks awfully similar to your childhood dog. then a old and sweet lady greets you. she says: Hello, would you like to come inside to have a cup of tea and some biscuits? you answer: yes please thank you. as soon as you walk into the door, you become 20 years younger. your back to being a child. you can smell the cookies in the oven. you can smell the jasmine tea's aroma. you go upstairs and you find a room that says "grandsons room" and you enter it, you see all your childhood belongings like the spelling bee award, lego sets. and your pokemon cards. you start crying. you go back downstairs and you talk with the old lady, you say: grandma is that you?, its me your grandson. she says: my grandson! and she starts crying in joy. you come up to hug here and you feel like your falling into the void and she disapears along with the house. you fall into the floor, you start falling into the void, you land in a sea, and you start drowning. you suddenly wake up in panic mode, you look around. and first thing you see is the piano. you walk up to it, you pull the cover open, and you clear the dust on the keys.and then you start playing your grandmas favorite piano piece, Clair de lune. you can hear the piano's age because its so out of tune, you end up staying on the piano until 4 in the morning. and then you fall asleep on the couch. you start crying while slightly smiling in joy. the end.

I listened to this song a year ago back in may and it helped me feel better because my grandma was in the hospital after suffering a stroke and I wasnt able to see her in person because i was a year too young to enter the hospital room because they dont want kids making too much noise or other disturbances so you had to be 12+ to enter and i was 11 at the time so this helped me calm down so thank you :) I came back to listen to this because of today, July 5th, it had been an entire year since her death. She had survived the stroke and was able to go back home but wasnt expected to survive by the end of the year. It was painful for her because she had to stay in a bed all the time and she had bed sores but she kept on fighting for 2 more months so she could see all of her family for the last time before deciding to take her final leave. My mom was in the room with my grandma, her own mother, when she died that morning and some of my other family members were there (my grandpa, my aunt, and one of my uncles.) It was a sad thing to hear when my dad told us the news but at least my grandma wasnt in pain anymore. I want to give my mom a hug today but she has covid 19 so I can't. :(

It reminds me of the cover that you hear in evil within when infront of the mirrors or in the hospital, of course it doesn’t have the violin but still, it’s beautiful

조율되지 않은 피아노의 음색은 더 몽환적이고 신비롭게 들리네요 그래서 더 좋네요

I can’t read sheet music so I just memorize the chords as a kid, Clair de lune is the only song I know how to play in just the first half😂. Just now realizing that my piano is out of tune because it sounds exactly like this
