Alainah Dailey has been a dedicated and determined supporter and advocate for police reform and government changes in her city of Decatur, Alabama since the shocking police murder of Steven Perkins on September 29, 2023.
Alainah has spent her time, effort and energy in learning laws and ordinances, reading over policies and procedures and educating herself and others about changes that should be made so that no other family has to experience what the Perkins’ family has been left to deal with these many months.
She is an advocate for justice and has been to nearly all of the city council meetings since that horrific event, speaking on behalf of her community against police misconduct and corruption in the local government. She has been a prominent part of the peaceful protests in search of #JusticeForStevePerkins.
Alainah has done all of this while juggling being a full-time student and a mother of two young children.
Like many other peaceful protestors and livestreamers before her, Alainah has been targeted by the Decatur Police Department- the same department who murdered Steve Perkins and tried to cover it up.
The corruption runs deep in the streets of Decatur, Alabama….. from the mayor all the way to the rookie cops who are getting away with constitutional violations of citizens on a daily basis. One of the police tactics against protesters is:
1. Arrest the protestors for filming them and call it “disorderly conduct.”
2. The protesters bond out almost immediately.
3. The police then target the released protesters out on bond and arrest them again for anything they want including if they are just standing on a sidewalk or shopping in public or driving down the road, then attach whatever they think might fit where they are at the time.
4. The judge then revokes their bond and makes them stay in jail for months on bogus charges.
5. They finally get to their hearing after being in jail for months and the charges get dismissed because it can’t hold up in court.
6. The protesters have lost their jobs, homes, vehicles, behind in payments, all because they were locked up for months….. so they then file a lawsuit against the city and its corrupt actors.
Alainah was arrested on Friday, February 9, 2024 by the brother of one of the officers who was fired from the Decatur Police Department over his involvement with the murder of Steve Perkins. The charge was disorderly conduct. Alainah was livestreaming to Facebook the entire night, up until they arrested her.
Not once did she; with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof, did she do any of the following:
(1) Engage in fighting or in violent tumultuous or threatening behavior.
(2) Make unreasonable noise.
(3) In a public place use abusive or obscene language or make an obscene gesture.
(4) Without lawful authority, disturb any lawful assembly or meeting of persons.
(5) Obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic, or a transportation facility.
Or
(6) Congregate with other person in a public place and refuses to comply with a lawful order of law enforcement to disperse.
They are currently holding her in the Morgan County Jail without bond until her hearing on March 5, 2024.
