Thank you, Dave, for yelling at me today. I put my credit card in the shredder when you started yelling at me to do that. I know you've said that A million times before ( I have been listening to you since 2020). But for some reason today it felt like you were yelling directly at me. And I really needed it. You Rock

Dave stopped this when the focus of the show became more than just solving financial problems. Now they are doing career advice and addressing mental health problems - and often, in the case of the latter, making pronouncements in sound bites for problems that are complex and need far more attention than a radio call-in show can give. In doing so, they have lost some of their original audience but gained others. It's pretty clear now that having all these hosts rotating through is also to expose them to the general public who are then attracted to listening to the individual shows of the co-hosts. (I don't know if those are under the Ramsey umbrella or not.) Whether the decision to move away from only financial advice has been a good decision or not, only the future will tell.

Wow - first caller really has NO idea of the repercussions of his choices. Extremely undisciplined for a 35 year old. And driving a Mercedes and originally bought one at $75,000 when he was in debt? Wants an easy way out since he has already started another relationship with someone and a minor child. No wonder his parents say this is the last time they are going to help him out.

To the 23 boy calling at the end - you do not have to hire a nurse. It can be a teacher who just retired, it can be a ukrainian refugee lady who got asylum and work permit. There can be two ladies changing month for a month, so that they also could have some freedom. They stay 24/6 and you come for one day. Weekly the cost is around a 1000$ (depending on duties, background etc). I have three women form Ukraine who look after my grandma (over 90yo), they come in exchange every month, they all retired, one was a nurse, another was a preschool teacher and the third was a cook at a school canteen back in their country.

Buyers need to be very careful with an HOA and their requirements. Just today someone on the neighborhood site is stating that their HOA provides the mulch for all the homes and the person putting it down has refused to listen to the homeowner NOT to put the mulch right up against the foundation of the house. As a result, he has termites because mulch should always be at least 6 inches from the house and no deeper than 3 inches (including older mulch.) Now he has to get a lawyer to sue for the extensive termite damage. If a HOA is involved, every sentence should be read and researched by the homeowner.

Because people were hiring with bonus and no interview. My income went from 28k to 78k in 1 year. if we ganna die we die. If you're going to live. Being in debt and enslaved by bills is not living. Like Dave said. FL, we did very well. Also my job is taking out trash of the hospital. No education is needed. There is no excuses on been stupid and lazy. especially if you're married. Plus in a big city like Miami it was very easy to find jobs. Is just people are picky on what job.
@dalvarez0625
@dalvarez0625 2 месяца назад
LOL there is no need to call me stupid and lazy. Everyone had their own circumstances during the pandemic and the checks we received I paid off most of my credit cards with that money, the rest went for essentials and 2 months worth of my car payment. I was working at 14 an hour with only 32 hours a week and doing uber eats on the side while my husband lost his job and was doing UBER with little to no tips because people are cheap AF. On top of that he would drive around asking if certain companies were hiring and wouldn't have any luck. You cannot understand someone's issue by a simple phone call. Please be nice before you comment. Thanks

Dave, life insurance is just not in the mind set of most people when they think about financial planning when they are young. They are thinking about 401k, investments, taxes, etc. Many young people don't get life insurance because 1) young adults think they are immortal, and 2) people have NO IDEA how inexpensive term life insurance is. What you need to stress more on the show is that life insurance is TAX FREE, so that is also one of the huge benefits.

Electrical apprentices can make more than $43,000 a year, depending on what field you're in. This lady doesn't know what she's talking about. Also, you get paid to learn on the job. And then you become a journeyman and then you make even more money than that. And like usual, John's chiming in when not listening to the lady on the phone, she literally said he's coming home to help her because she's so stressed out with six kids. He's obviously trying to help her out.

Yes, Patrick - but the reason is this: The last job a parent has is to make sure their kids can survive without them. If you keep supporting them and the extras, that time will not come. So - explain that it's important to you to make sure that they have learned the tools to survive financially after you're gone. And they should not be counting on your resources which can evaporate very quickly. (My father-in-law burned through 1.5 million in the last years of his life because he wanted to stay in his home and needed round the clock care. Spent it all, but it was his to spend.) There's a great line in the movie Fat Man Little Boy spoken by Paul Newman who is General Groves: "You build to a moment and then you seize it, or it will go right by you." Now, you're not building the atomic bomb, but your retirement IS the natural moment to make a change and get the freeloaders used to paying ALL their bills.

This is the time when a lot of people find they still owe something to the IRS. Since the Ramsey people say to cut up the credit cards, what do they advise for a young family who is just on baby step 2 and has almost no resources? I know they tell people to not go into debt further, and also to pay the IRS first - but I've never heard them tell someone how to handle this. Loan? Payment plan with the IRS?

I have heard Dave say to get a loan at a credit union if your credit score isn't trashed (if it's trashed, no institution will loan you money). His reasoning is it's better to take out a loan than be in debt to the IRS.

@@bettedavis9261 True and common sense, but that advice does go against their preaching never to go into any more debt. That might be the exact case math for math if all your accounting for is just your time when you're sitting in the chair or lying down on the bed and they're taking your plasma but you're not factoring in the waiting time at whatever clinic or Hospital you're at as well as your fuel costs getting to and from that location and back home let alone the vehicle insurance yearly tag involved etcetera etcetera

How can it be hard to do those things? Poor people, homeless people and welfare people do without those things for years. Yet Americans think they're lazy and living high on the hog...that they're doing well. Somehow that sounds contradictory.

The couple with the six kids...I don't think it was fair to throw that all on the husband. She clearly said when he did more work or might travel, she did not have enough help with the kids. I think she needs to not count on him for kid help much at all, and needs to find that elsewhere in her community. Pulling the guy both ways is so unfair.

At least you have that one thousand dollars to help with those emergencies. I had emergency surgery in January. When I left the hospital I was told I would save $300 if I paid for all of my out of pocket expenses before I left. All of my out-of-pocket expenses = $3,000. My surgery was $50,000. I had the money in my emergency fund. I saved $300 but now I'm back to beans and rice so I can put back that money in my full emergency fund. I'm so thankful that I had the money in the bank. I know it is so hard at first to realize that you had the money and didn't have to put it on a credit card or borrow money from friends or family. Hang in there, you can do this!

Exactly! He seems to think if you make $80k gross, you should be able to pay off $50k or so a year. Of course, if you're making $80k gross, you're probably only coming home with about $56k. After paying off &50k, that leaves $6k a year to live on ($500/month). Not very realistic.
