It’s actually really nice to hear someone talking positively about their own work?? Like you saying how beautiful the panels you made for the Santa Monica houses are (and you are correct!) even when you are obviously not happy with the back panel, you still recognise it’s lovely, just not right for that project. It’s just so nice to hear someone being happy with themselves and their work
I love how many of those you just went 'Sod it I am breaking the rules!', and there weren't even that many projects to start with! I think I have like 10 WIPs, but across 6 different crafts so that if I get bored of my crochet project (for example), I can switch to knitting or cross stitch to give my brain a break and renew my enthusiasm!!
i do the same !! rn it’s just knit and crochet but i wanna add more soon :D it’s one of the best things for me to consistently be making stuff i love !!
The checkerboard back panel is fine. But, given those stunning front panels, having the back of the houses on the back panel is a SHOWSTOPPING idea. You could really have fun with it. The back of the houses don't have to be as detailed as the front. You can add a kitty cat taking a nap, or other fun visual elements.
Love this! Feels like it changes frogging from ‘going backwards’ (which makes productivity feel like the end goal) into ‘part of the learning/creative process’. Definitely going to be using it going forward because I definitely get stuck feeling bad about frogging and forgetting that I’m knitting because I love to knit, not to be a clothes-producing machine 😂
I honestly love videos where someone just sits down for a few afternoons and just finishes the thing they'd been avoiding. Like Bernadette Banner has a "let's do all the mending and hemming I keep procrastinating on", or Rachel Maksy has closet purge videos. I love to have those sorts of videos on when I, too, am struggling to Do The Thing, so I can body double and get the thing done. Just an idea.
That Santa Monica houses vest is gorgeous! Love the checkers idea on the back. And I’m totally here for sock puppets if that’s the direction you decide to go in 💚😎
Went through my wips recently. I have 8 wips, but half of them are blankets. I frogged like 5 projects either because I didn’t have enough yarn or didn’t care anymore. I finished 3 wips and subsequently started on like a new project everyday for like 5 days because the warm weather reawakened me lol. Granted the projects I started are easy summer tops, so I finished 5 out of the 6 the day I started. And added a new baby blanket for a friend. Just drowning in blankets 😵😂
What might be fun with the sock is finding a vase shaped like a foot, putting the sock on it and then putting fake flowers or a little plant in it. And I agree with you getting rid of projects that you're no longer committed to. I started a Halloween themed cross stitch and then ended up giving it away at a freebie table at a retreat. I don't miss it and the person who got it was thrilled.
Between sewing, knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, quilting, diamond painting, and (finally!) latch hooking a rug, I have a minimum of 12 WIPs. I have arthritis in my hands, and when I cannot do one craft, I move to another one. But this does take up a lot of space in my living room and my head.
always only one project at a time. at the very most, one knit and one crochet project. i love the projects you choose to work on. i'm kinda bad at finding cute projects.most the stuff on revelry doesn't do it for me and i just don't know where to look anymore! if i were as good as you at finding cool projects, i'd probably have 7 WIPs too.
brewski you look better with each video. i swear your channels are my drug. love listening to you talk, but the extra sprinkle of watching your style and look is chef's kiss. THANKS FOR MAKING CONTENT for us yartists:)
I make a lot of things into pillow covers I either keep or gift. I've got scarves that have been expanded and sweater fronts slightly revamped to make square and rectangular pillow fronts. The back is either a woven fabric, or a solid stockinette that coordinates with the front. Assemble, stuff and done! I've probably made about 15-20 over the last few decades.
I'm glad to be a rubber duck for you to talk things out with. The sheep vest and the houses vest both look very cool. Good luck with those. And good luck with all of your WIPs. ❤
I think I'm counting 6 WIPs right now, but they're across different mediums (knit, bobbin lace, cross stitch) so it feels more daunting because I have to switch my brain every time I work on something else. I believe in us that we can get everything done!
I don't knit or crochet but I have two works in progress for my cross stitching. One is an Akira design for my dad that took me over a year to really get started on and the other is a cute Baphamet design for me that won't fit on the panel I have so now I don't know if I should start over or what. I loved those socks you were making, I'm glad you decided to finish them. Looking forward to seeing more.
Tip for different dyelots (especially with yarn that has color variations in it): work with two skeins at once, and alternate which you use (like do one row in skein A, and the next row in skein B)
2:44 I haven’t watched the whole video yet, and by the time I am leaving this comment you have probably already frogged or finished, but I think if you are still stuck with the vest I really think it would look awesome as a scarf, just continue in blue until you have a size you like. That’s what I would do anyway! ❤
This was a great inspiration. I am doing Cerulean Orchid's WIP Bingo this month, and watching this made me pull out a WIP and knit an entire repeat of the pattern.
i really like the houses vest! i feel like maybe you're struggling with it because you've been working on it for so long? but i think the checkers are cool, and i was going to comment about them being like an abstract version of the houses before you said that :)
Emma I really like the checkered pattern for the back of the vest! The colors you chose are so unique. The grey scale on one side and colored on the other is soo cool!!! I definitely want to try that sometime! Thanks for sharing as always! You are so inspiring!
starting a " to frog or to continue" thing and then inventing new categories for each project is so real 😂 currently thinking of frogging thefirst sweater i made cuz i don't wear it but its such a pretty yarn !
I believe I have 5 WIPs atm, just kidding there are 6, but the 6th one is a scrap project and it is in use as it is a couch blanket I add to whenever I have left over yarn. I also have a raglan sweater I am crocheting for my MIL, A black crochet Dress I am almost done with for one of my best friends, a scrappy dino plushie, and then both a relaxagon shirt and a blanket for my fiance.
I just started crocheting 2 weeks ago. In my searching, I found yours, Jaida's and Grace's channels. It has been a lot of fun crocheting and listening to you all! I am currently working on a granny sunburst squares for a pair of short overalls. I'm already racking up all the patterns I want to try. I hope to try out your mesh button up once you write the pattern! Good luck in your stitches!
omg i am in love with the house vest and the socks! i love the abstract back that you decided on!! and when you showed the first sock i screamed because it's so beautiful. I am working on pants for my brother and mother and a mesh dress thing and i need to redo some shorts i recently finished so... i also have a few wips lol
Thanks for this!! I have so many WIPs and I know most of them I will finish but there were a couple I wasn't finding joy in and this encouraged me to frog it 😍 I felt so free!!!!
I started going through this kind of purge lately. I had COMPLETELY lost interest in one project and ultimately put it all in a bag and donated it to a local thrift. I didn't even have the motivation to frog.
I recently frogged a couple of projects I had sitting around. I didn't love them and knew I wouldn't finish them. So decided to say screw it and just rip them all out.
How fun to work on my project while watching you go through yours. I've got 3 projects on the go, but I also only picked up crochet as a hobby like a month ago lol. I'm sure I'll look back wistfully on these days and wonder how I ever had so few irons in the fire.
Low key wish we could have seen the Clean Up the Streets DJ.... Also... I just learned how to crochet in April and have been wanting to learn to knit, but have no idea where to begin and kind of got turned off by the crochet vs knit video I found you on... However! - your work inspires me to keep the knit idea somewhere lost in the lost crochet projects I should probably frog 😂😭 Thank you for sharing your brain! Love it
I have 4 projects I'm working on right now that I can think of off the top of my head and decided yesterday I'm frigging the biggest one (again) which is a blanket. This is the second time I am crocheting it and it just isn't turning out how I want it to. I'm gonna change out one of the yarns completely and then hopefully 3rd times a charm but I'm going to knit it instead. The other projects is a large blanket scarf, two bunnies from the show bluey, and a flying pig.
Definitely having the back panel be the back view of the houses was my first thought. I have some little tea tins that are English cottages and the back of each tin is the back of the cottage with gardens and bicycles leaning against the house.
The seed stitch one seems like less of a Finished Object project and more of a Keep Hands Busy project, and thus in my opinion shouldn't have any pressure to be finished, since it's goal is to keep your hands busy.
Current WIPs, hmm 1) Mosaic crochet throw blanket, just needs to border to hide the ends 2) Knit baby blanket, 60ish percent done 3) Shawl, fillet (sp?) crochet celtic knots, barely started 4) Crochet sweater, started over more times than i can count. Designers do not consider petite, full bust body types but that is a rant for another day 5) Free hand crochet sweater, going poorly... maybe there's a reason the designers ignore us 😂 6) Crochet produce bag, just needs handle sewn on, will probably be ignored for another year
i probably have about 5 different granny square projects because i got obsessed with how they looked, but now i am so tired of making them that i jsut have piles of granny squares waiting to be joined............. but anyways i have faith in you in finishing these projects ! :)
25:04 well... One blanket A sweater that I'm about to finish (birthday gift), a sweater that I've paused for the other sweater Frog amigurumi (also paused for the sweater) A sweater vest that has been a wip for 3 years A summer top A hat My overflowing ideas are the issue here, I guess
Currently have back log of 10ish projects 1. hexacardi that's pretty much done. I just have to crochet the trim around the edges but I just don't feel like it. I've worn it since I "finished" it because in my head, it pretty much is done. 2. Crop bell sleeve top that I was working on when I was on vacation and 8 rows into finishing that last sleeve, I ran out of yarn. 3. Sleeveless cardigan that I started while on vacation because I found an indie yarn shop and I couldn't help myself to their hand dyed cotton yarn. 4. Another crop bell sleeve top that I started before vacation but in a different colorway. 5. Hexacardi for my aunt. The yarn she wanted just arrived and I've started that. Definitely did not order enough yarn for it so I have to do that. 6. Baby blanket for my friend who just had a baby. Bought the yarn, haven't started on it. 7. Plarn market bag. Started but put down because I was more excited about the crop tops. 8. Granny square fanny pack. I need one more granny square panel but what's really intimidating me is putting a liner on the inside and figuring out how to make the straps adjustable. 9&10. A set of scrunchies and dish scrubbers for my sister's birthday. Have not started but could knock out pretty quick since I already have the yarn for both. So, ya know, we're in the same boat! I believe in you Emma! You're gonna get most of these done to completion!
7:18 Woah! Really did a number on me to see the exact same colorway AND stitch as the scarf I made a few years ago! The colors blend so pretty in seed stitch!
Im going through a yellow and brown color phase myself right now and not mad about it (think retro 70s vibes). Currently working on a lapgan and a few amagarumi projects. Finished a sweater and now i want to get into shirts/vests.
it would be cool if you finished the end of the back panel of the two houses in the sky blue color. i’m envisioning a block of that blue at the top of the checkers and i just this it would be cool idk
I HAVE to finish my child's patchwork knit afghan, but man oh man, was I way over ambitious two years ago with 121 squares to join... Hoping to have a craft party over Discord soon to motivate me. lol
The sheep sweater… where the die lot happened, swop out to a sky blue from there up. The dye lot under the arms would not be easily visible so go the same row count and continue in blue again even with some clouds 👍🇬🇧
When you said “everytime this happens to me I think about how much easier…” I expected you to finish with “if I had a different hobby.” And if that isn’t telling about I’m feeling about yarn crafts rn not sure what would be.
peeping the cleo’s bag in the back! i want to visit but i haven’t made it out yet. thank you for reminding me to make my next yarn shopping date there!
I am currently working on a crochet rainbow scrap yarn blanket, knit red scarf, knit red sweater dress for a Yor Forger cosplay, crochet rainbow granny square sweater, someone else's abandoned pink knit blanket that I cannot yet figure out all the stitches for, and a crochet giant granny square blanket in blue and orange.
This has inspired (forced) me to confront my wip knit sweater that has run out of the main colour yarn. I only have one sleeve left and I need to just do the damn thing! 😫😂
Really love you're chanel subscribed to it from when you were on the vacation with the clan. Here from Ontario canada. Watching you're play list keep up the great work.aka you were with pastionknit kelsie
I’m currently working on a scarf and running into the same problem where I don’t have enough yarn to make it as long as a scarf should be. I’m planning to seem the ends together and it will be just long enough to double, so a sort of infinity scarf/cowl situation. 🤷🏼♀️ Not sure yet if it will look weird but it would be very warm, and I think I’ll actually use it.
I would frog just the back panel of the vest and reknit it with those backs of the houses idea you mentioned. That would be way cooler than some random checkers. Maybe in blue but not sure about that.
I currently only have 2 wips, which is a big change for me because for a long time I would refuse to start something until I finished the one that I already started. Oh yeah and one of my wips is your duck vest! I'm making a matching set for my family of 4 lol, hope to have them done by christmas 🤞 I love the sheep vest!!!
I think I have currently 3 crochet WIPs which isn't a lot, but I'm creating a pattern, a baby blanket for my sister's baby, and a top for my little sister, I also have like- 5+ cosplays I'm trying to work on and fix/finish for friends, (currently only 1 wig, but it's about to jump up to 6 wigs 😭)
I have so many WIPs but I can't let go of any of them. I keep casting on knitting projects instead of finishing the ones I've already started so now I'm working on 2 different pairs or socks, 3 different sweaters, and a cardigan, and i have innumerable amounts of crochet WIPs.
I quite like the slightly stripey sheep vest. Looks like the sheep are standing on ground quite near you, and the other color behind & above them is a distant background.
you should absolutely make sock puppets out of socks you make yourself. honestly actually i’m going to do that. i love puppets & i’ve already taken up woodcarving to make my own marionettes so i might as well knit my own sock puppets
i am currently working on knitted blanket squares. i have one half knitted square, some rows that i haven’t sewn together yet (because my back and legs hurt from crouching on the floor doing that the last two nights!) as well as a small blanket i plan on working on when mum and i go overseas because it only uses one ball of yarn. i also have a scarf that’s mostly done that i haven’t worked on in a while because i got bored of both the yarn and the pattern. i also have a jumper that i’ve knitted the front panel for and started the back panel and im not sure when (or if!) i’ll get back to it even though the yarn is really pretty. i may have to frog the front panel anyway because i think i did the shaping wrong 😑
There should be a "WIP swap" program somewhere out there... I have three jumpers waiting for me to finish the SECOND SLEEVE, the very last part, and I just cannot bring myself to do it.
I was always starting new things but this year it was my goal to focus on a couple at a time to make sure I finished them, but it got boring and I started to pick up more wips and it's getting overwhelming 😅 so I created a notion database to help me organize and prioritize lmaoo
