This is the BEST video I have seen on deck building to date BY FAR! I am starting deck building myself and most of the videos I found out there were ver patronising, like: "oh, poor boy, he does not know how to deck build. Here, let me do the thinking for you. You just need to pick between these X cards or follow this pre-booked recipe". I loved how here, instead, you called for thinking and handed the pole instead of the fish by calling the things to watch our for and promote thinking. These suggestions on how to get inspired are plain great. While watching the video it felt like it helped me bridging the lack of deep knowledge on the whole pool whilst allowing me do the fun bit of deck building. After all... If deck building is not going to be part of the fun, I might just as well stick to precons and marcelcdb, right?
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Thank you so much for the kind words. It’s very encouraging and I really appreciate it! I love how you called out the fishing metaphor because I actually had that in an early version of the script. And that’s absolutely my goal, to teach how to find these things for yourself because that’s such a big part of the joy of deck building. Even if you’re not the first person to ever think of something it’s still fun to discover it for yourself. Now that being said, in the next video I will also just be handing out a bunch of fish by showcasing many of the main combos and deck styles for each aspect. But I’m going to make it easy to skip through those parts if people don’t want to know!

@@GetUpandGame I feel like if I’m going to take the time to deck build, I should switch to expert mode. What do you think? Would it just be too easy to win on standard?
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
@@noodlemans yeah I do agree with that. Once you start building good decks most of the villains won’t give you too much trouble. Or at the very least, you’ll likely win a lot more than you lose. And expert isn’t as scary as it sounds, at least for most villains. It’s certainly harder, but maybe not as much as one might assume. I waited a really long time to start playing expert and then I was like “oh, that’s wasn’t so bad” lol. I really like to encourage people to try it sooner then they might think they’re ready for it just because I find the 2nd and 3rd stages of the villains more interesting. That’s going to be one of the later videos in this series actually

Interesting timing on this video, I want to gte into the deck building and looking forward to it. But as I only own the core (and now Cyclops and Phoenix which arrived yesterday) I am still limited on what I can do. Still I did swap out Phoenix's Swift retributions with the Befuddles that came with Cyclops because on the surface they just look like better cards. So yay I managed to do a thing still.
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Haha well that’s a great start! I’ll definitely be talking more about what you can do with a smaller card pool in my third video, but just what you did there, swapping out one card for another, can greatly improve a preconstructed deck very easily! And that’s a good call. Swift Retribution is a good card in the right deck, but it requires some specific support to really shine. Befuddled will be much more generally useful. So good instincts!

I love MTG but it's just stupidly over priced, with this game I can deckbuild, which I love, like crazy! Deckbuilding is more than half the fun and this isn't a game for casuals and pre con decks IMHO, which is great as I love the construction aspects. I'm addicted and can't get enough!

Great inspiration throughout the vid. I am trying to steer away from sites like marvelcdb, because 1. they take away from experimenting and building a deck from your own knowledge and experience, and 2. tend to require you spend a ton of money just to make a deck "perfected" Sadly I just got into MC, less than a month ago and already have two campaign boxes and 6 hero packs due to this(Not entirely their fault, I really wanted everything "X-Men" first), and have barely played the game, I'm too busy increasing my card pool. I will try my hardest to only use the site as a resource or last resort option when I need to fill out the last 2-3 cards.
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Glad to hear this could be useful for you! I know exactly what you mean. I generally try not to look at CDB much myself since I like coming up with my own decks. Even if some combos are so obvious that they definitely already have decks on there for them I still like to feel like I was smart enough to come up with it myself 😆 Building with a smaller card pool can be a really fun exercise. Simulates the feeling of being in the game from the beginning, and encourages you to use cards you likely won’t use again once your card pool is bigger. I would recommend just playing the game for a little while and getting to know the cards you have 🙂 If there’s ever anything I can do or answer to help you out please don’t hesitate to ask!

I built a 20 card deck for each hero (their hero set +5 vanilla cards that match their hero playstyle) and a 20 card deck for each of the 4 aspects, and whenever I play I just choose a hero and an aspect and I shuffle them together Mash Up style so I can just play right away.
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Hey that’s a really cool way to do it! And it sounds like a fun challenge to pick 5 cards that just live in each hero’s kit. Now I kinda want to make a video about trying to do that lol 🤔

@Tvboy777 Год назад
Definitely the super casual "pull it, play it, pack it" approach for someone like me who already has a main game that I spend all my time deck building for (and don't have the money to buy more than a few expansions). Makes it so that every hero I own is immediately ready to play out of the box without any deckbuilding time. But now I've been watching some of your videos, I can see how there can be a lot of fun in optimizing a deck for each character if you own every expansion.

Great series. The only thing i think I'd add is how good strange is with allys. He doesn't want to block, so they're great fodder. He's an avenger and he can have 5 allys out (trisken and wasp) giving him a draw 5 card using leadership. With more cards he has more cycle or turns to take off and build his board. Allys are also a toolbox for him to get more draw, more thwart, attack, events, etc.
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
That’s a very good point! I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I get to the third video. I want to talk more about allies and the roles they can play in your decks and you have laid out very nicely how they can be effective for someone like Strange. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! 🙂

Hey man I just found this channel! I just started watching but I have a question. I have everything released so far, sleeved. I currently store them in their precon sets. How do you store your cards so you don’t spend a ton of time looking for the cards to build your deck?

Hello! Welcome to the channel! 🙂 I use the white BCW cardboard boxes for games like this, as well as the Tesseract Games dividers. If you go to this video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jMs_H3kDojA.html And scrub to 38:18 you’ll see what it looks like with all of the current content. Basically I have all the heroes in one box, all of the deck building cards divided by aspect and type in a second, and all of the villains and mod sets in a third! So it’s usually pretty easy to find what I’m looking for quickly 👍 You can find the boxes here: BCW 1600 Card Shoe Storage Box - 2 ct a.co/d/hm0qkLv They also come in smaller and bigger sizes And the dividers I like are here: www.tesseractgames.co.uk/card-game-dividers That’s how I do it anyway! 😊

Seriously useful vid for me as I'm just getting into deck building. Do you build the deck specifically for a certain villian you've decided to play or do you just concerntrate on making the hero as strong as they possibly can be?
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Glad to hear it! That’s a really good question. For me I usually just build a deck that seems like it’ll be fun or strong, and then play it a few times against different villains. Most scenarios on standard are similar enough in difficulty that outside of a few of the weirder or harder villains (Collector 1, Ronan) it should play well. But when it does come to those types of villains, or many of them on expert, that’s where I might switch in some cards that are particularly effective in that scenario. It can be really fun to tune a deck against a villain though and absolutely destroy them!

I've really liked your videos of this series, more educational to people that doesnt really know that much about deckbuilding. I'm improving my own collection by buying some of the packs that you recommended along some ones that i particularly liked. What do you think about the new X-men packs, along mutant genesis, phoenix and storm? Do you think that they should be bought before some packs, or are they too specific to Xmen that you should buy only if you wanna lean into X-men? I have the core + red skull, and the strong foundation packs that you recommended as well as nova, I was planning to follow with the strenghten the core but if you think that some X-men pack are worth it i would like to hear as well
@GetUpandGame
@GetUpandGame Год назад
Thank you for the kind words, and I’m glad to hear the videos have been helpful! 🙂 I think all the X-men stuff has been absolutely fantastic, but to your question I do think they are very specific to themselves. Each hero comes with cards that either support the X-men specifically, cards that play into their particular style well, or are reprints of older cards available in other packs. If I were making the “what to buy” video after playing the new stuff The only card that I would say is a must have is Professor X from MG because he is basic and gives the ability to confuse the villain. This is something I’ve been waiting for forever! But other than him there isn’t much that I think is essential to build a card pool for general deck building. Now of course that being said if you’re a huge X-men fan the amount of support you get in just what we have so far is fantastic. You can already build very powerful X-men decks that have great synergy and are very fun to play!

Oh good call! I definitely think that could be a fun strategy. We could use a few more cheap X-men allies to run a swarm, but as more heroes come out I’m sure we’ll get them. But if we look outside X-men she could be a great candidate for a Strength in numbers style deck, plus she plays so well with Moxie so I really like the idea of her in leadership. And she plays so well in aggression as well that a Boot Camp deck could be a lot of fun too! Her built in economy would need a little help, but she already wants to make use of Deft Focus so that helps, and if she is running a lot of X-men team building exercise is also a good fit. Haha you’ve got me excited to try this out! And if you do be sure to let me know! 😃
