Nice footage not many people know Iowa’s were purposely built with extra fuel bunkers not only to act as torpedo protection and spaced armor while empty but could also refuel its own escorts while at sea

Firing one of the aft 50 cals from the Wisconsin is probably the most fun you can have!

Anyone know what Essex-class carrier that is steaming abeam at 7:00? Kinda wondering if she could be my Dad's old carrier, the Lexington (CV-16).

Man put me on a carrier, it's drier than a battleship or destroyer.

And will bounce you all over the sea in the same weather that a Battleship just plows thru. The ones you really have to feel sorry for are the Tin Can Sailors. Even mild seas can be bad.

You'll learn to respect the sea if you're serving on 686.

lol... the iowa class was a very nice riding vessel in heavy seas. wet, yes, but who cares? They were designed to go anywhere, in any weather and kick ass.

They most certainly were!! I served on the New Jersey for almost 3 years back in the eighties. She was very steady in heavy seas.

Niclas Johansson yeah they were, they were specifically designed to cut through the water like butter and it’s bow was very much streamlined and was designed for heavy seas
@SealofPerfection

Heavy seas were no problem for an Iowa. Any Battleship ever made would be taking water over the bow in weather like this, and they are designed for it, and it gives them no trouble at all. Iowa can fight in any weather that any other Battleship can, and in weather that some probably can't.
