Part 1 of a restoration of a well used 1936 Deckel FP1.
Part 1 is the evaluation of the column reference face relative to the z and y axis ways to determine its suitability for use as a reference face, Turns out its very parallel to the ways but tipped considerably.
Excuse the poor camera footage, I will try do better next time.

Hey bud I say run it as is. I own a 1950 fp-1 and can say it'll probably be still more accurate than most of the junk sold today. Put a Bluetooth DRO on it and a 2hp three phase motor with a vfd drive on it and enjoy a beautiful piece of German history.

Hey, do you have any pictures of the mill before you took it apart? Is the y axis hand wheel at the back of the head rather than the side?

Hi the y axis hand wheel is up the top on the side tilted down at about a 15 deg angle. I do have photos but it won’t let me post them here

Recently bought on old version of deckel fp1 . Does the horizontal spindle drawbar come out of the spindle. It's rotating but not coming out. I want to check the threads of drawbar so I can purchace some collets.

There is a retainer nut behind it, if you remove it, it does come out.
