Barbie Links are below!
This year, I have decided to make small, and big, changes. I would usually clean out a space but never fully complete it. In this video, I finish the job by resetting the basement and decluttering some more. I am also putting a lot of stuff up for sale both on Facebook and Etsy.
This is part of my 2023 decluttering journey, in which I tackle every corner of my home, top to bottom. Thank you for watching!

Do any of you remember when her basement looked like a library? It was hard when you started to declutter, but look where you are today! Your Great Challenges turned into Our Great Challenges somewhere along the way. Because of you, and I am sure that I am just not speaking for myself, I have declutter for years! Letting go isn’t easy. It’s as you say a process. I started about 8 years ago. Wasn’t ready to let go off everything at once, but today I can say I am so happy with the clutter gone and having room for all the things that I just love! Again thank you Sophia for helping so many of us with Our Great Challenges!

By decluttering so much, you've added VALUE to what you've kept. When you curate your collections, you showcase what's important to you! Before you began your journey, I wouldn't have known what you valued above other things. Now you've really highlighted what your special things are, and really let them shine. Love it! And who cares if it's taken years, it's YOUR house, not mine!!!

I have my Barbies from the 60's, a case, tons of clothes and furniture. I chewed on the hands though, no idea why, lol. I saved them in case I had girls (nope, 2 boys). So I saved them in case I had granddaughters, (nope, 2 grandsons). I should sell them. My nieces did get to play with them, and when they grew up they gave me theirs. I do remember my Mom telling me that the clothes from the 60's were modeled after Jackie Kennedy.

In the past few years I’ve been helping my son and daughter with there booths at the antique mall. They have 5 in total in Massachusetts. I love helping them and they come across so many treasures and sometimes I keep some of the things. Books, paper dolls, glassware, I collect uranium glass and Fenton. But what I noticed is that sometimes I might love it and then I come across something I love more. So then I’ll sell it. But that’s the fun of it and I wish I discovered reselling antiques and vintage sooner just because I love being around and learning about these things so much. Your right Sophia it’s a journey and that’s ok. You will do this for the rest of your life and good for you. It brings me so much joy to discover things and letting them go if need be. You have come so far and it’s not the decluttering that’s so important but knowing who you are and how 35:31 you can change. Love your videos and thank you so much for sharing your great challenge.

Sophia, you have come such a long way since the beginning of your channel. I remember how you struggled to make decisions in your earlier declutter videos. It's understandable that everyone has their own pace of doing things, what really matters at the end of they day is feeling happy with what one has accomplished, no matter how big or small this achievement may be. I am ruthless when it comes to getting rid of stuff around the house but I sincerely enjoy watching how you process decluttering items that have served you for so long. You are a real gem. 💐 Good for you Sophia! Only have what you love and use! I’ve moved for all of my life (hated moving!!!). I have had to get rid of so much over the years. Always said the one thing I would Never get rid of was my book collection. A few years back, I looked at my large bookcase and all the books I hadn’t read or looked at in years, and said “WHY???” So I just got boxes and tore through them and made a quick trip to the Goodwill. What a relief! I have limited my books to 2 short shelves. If I ever thought of any book I regretted, there is Amazon! My home is so much easier to keep really clean and organized. It’s not sterile looking because I love to decorate, but there is not a bunch of clutter and stuff in all the drawers and closets. 😁❤️

@@mygreatchallenge 💐 Oh. That explains things! I noticed in ex-mother-in-law and her sister, in the Great Depression, they lost everything and ended up walking across the US. Their father had been a gambler. In my mother-in-law’s sister, she ended up being extremely thrifty, buying a house when first being married in CA. , living there until her death and also that of her cheating husband whom she stuck by, and being a librarian walking to work until very old. Extremely consistent in all things, weighing every day, and if she gained one pound, she drank grapefruit juice all the next day to lose that pound. She had a figure that I envied in my 30’s!!! Now, her sister, my ex motherinlaw, whom I also loved, had the OPPOSITE reaction to the same situation. She spent any money she got, lived on top of her son and his wife til her death, was extremely overweight, and drove my dear sister in law crazy!!! In her bedroom was all that she owned. Her thrifty sister, on the other hand, was a very neat and organized hoarder. Go figure!!!!😁. I would absolutely love it if you would expand on your background!!! And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one!!!😁❤️

I am with you when it comes to dolls. I had about 3 dolls when I was little and when I was about 8 years old I had 3 Ginny 8inch dolls that I loved (1950s) They were the affordable version of the Madam Alexander dolls. When I turned 13 I was not interested in dolls anymore but my mother, who loved dolls and even bought them for herself when she was an adult and in her old age, bought me a large Shirley Temple doll which I didn’t want. My mother was mad at me. I was already a teenager when Barbie came out so I wasn’t interested. My granddaughters love their Barbie dolls. You are doing a super great job decluttering and I really enjoy your motivating videos.

Sophia, I like the consistency of your new decluttering series. Every time I help a friend or family member, I make a list of questions: what do you want to get done today? Declutter a closet, drawer, cabinet, shelf, etc. The only contingency is whatever box or bag gets filled, it gets donated that same day. (My mother, age 92, likes to put things back. So I give her grace. One baby step at a time.)

I have the Skipper red coat and love how it flares. What you have on her head is not a hat. It's actually a skating skirt that had suspenders at one time. I still have that too. It also came with a one -piece nylon body suit with white turtleneck top and red pants. The body suit snagged and ran just like nylons or pantyhose so it was destroyed. Great job with the decluttering.

Good luck selling the Barbie’s. I think the price is reasonable. A Barbie that looks like yours in exactly the same red dress sold for $87 in 2021 on Etsy. When I was younger I had several 1970s to early 80s Sindy dolls (UK equivalent), but I never played with them past the age of six. They all went to the local charity shop in the early 90s, but recently I found the complete Sindy bedroom furniture set at my mum’s house, which we are slowly decluttering ready to sell. I threw the whole set in the bin as bits of it were damaged and I couldn’t be bothered to sell the bit that weren’t separately as like you, Sophia I don’t have the time to waste doing it.

Hugely enjoying the decluttering series and it was a big YES when you put the barbies up for sale. I'm probably going to cause some dismay in saying this, and don't wish to cause any upset, but I always feel your followers don't help in continuously sending you gifts . It's just adding to your clutter! I know you would probably not comment as you are too nice and polite, but when I see you unwrapping ' happy mail' I often wonder if it is always happy. I find myself shouting at the video ' stop sending more stuff you are not helping!'. Just my thoughts. I'm probably just being a miserable person. 😧

The problem in my city in my country is that you have to pay a lot the get rid of things when you declutter, many thrift stores don't want a lot of what you want to give them and after the first time in that year you have to pay 40 euro to get the stuff taken by the waste processor in my city, you just can't put it on the curb. You can bring till 250 kilo per year yourself to the processor but not everybody has the car to bring everything so decluttering is really a more difficult thing here.

My logical brain says just to donate, but they are nice items, so I’m reluctant to give up. Meanwhile they are taking up space. So, my question is what process timeline do you follow? I need to find something I can live with and would value your opinion. 👍 Thank you!

Depends if it s Facebook Marketplace as it is mostly pickup. I keep for a few weeks or if it's small and can be kept in the garage, I just keep relisting. Etsy is different because they are already packed up and ready to ship. So I just keep relisting. Just today something sold that has been in the shop for over 1 year. It s not a big deal to relist. You can tell if something gets attention through view count anyway, so if it is absolute dead weight I ll just donate. But that s just fb marketplace. etsy I keep them in storage. Ultimately it s up to you how much time you re willing to keep an item. I don't know how much storage you have available and how big the items are. What you can do is cross post. Post on several sites. Just add "cross posted" at the end of the description and make sure to delete all once it is sold.

I agree quilting books and sewing books are great, but definitely conducive of ones taste and style. We just don't like keeping the ones that are not us.

We had that Barbie rain ensemble when I was a kid. It was sold with the yellow umbrella and white rain boots, which you also have.

Hi Sophia. Just a thought, would it be possible to move your living room cabinet to your sewing area for sewing storage and the small cabinet you use now over where you were going to put the living room entertainment cabinet?😮

What brand is the mop/bucket that you are using? I'm currently trying to purge my quilting fabric. For the last year I've only been using what I have on hand. It's hard not to buy fabric 😄

You might have a grandbaby girl some day that would like to play Barbies with you.
