My mom passed away a year ago. I finally -- finally -- gave the last of the "extra, cleaning, just-in-case, those-are-for-when-the-plumber-comes" towels to my vet. There were four larger Ikea-size totes bags and three boxes. They told me they now have enough "really nice" towels to last a long, long time. My mom was of the generation where you restocked linens in January at the white sales regardless if you needed new towels and linens or not.
great job donating to the pet shelter. I volunteer at one, and we always appreciate towels, blankets, and sheets. They are a comfort for the animals to lay on.
Always love seeing your mom and seeing you both declutter her home. I watched this while making breakfast and soon as I'm done eating, I'm going to work on our spare room/storage room lol
There is usually a lot to criticize on RU-vid organizer/decluttering videos. NOT this one. It was lovely - especially your donating towels to animal shelters - people never think about that. Good for you! Love your Mom!
I have an entire cabinet of rag towels... I know I need to go through them, but I just envision using them all up and then my dog having some exorcist like bodily fluid explosion and me not having enough towels. LOL! 🙃
I am your mums age Shannon and she inspired me when she said " I haven't missed a thing" when it's gone. Gonna attack my linen press today. Thanks mate. 🇦🇺👍🙂
Today I had a young relative help me go through all the picture frames I had accumulated over 20 plus years she asked me the correct questions and I realised I was never going to repair or have wall space for all these frames even if I had the pictures to match, The relief of making the decisions.
I appreciate you and your Mom doing this together! Hearing why and why not (reasons) help me to think through each item vs just emotional reaction (which is why I have so much stuff. Thank you both!
You two together are so lovely. Your mom is my age we both probably still have towels from wedding gifts ( they were on sale year we got married😆). We keep a crazy towel pile to bath dogs time to rethink that! Thank you for your joy. ❤️🇨🇦
Loved this for so many reasons! 🤣🤣 Your mom is hilarious! I think she wants to go camping! 😃 Good for her letting go of things! You both are awesome! Cherish her! ♥️
So lovely to see mum n u work. She is such a bright n happy soul. Been watching all the decluttering videos . The camping excuse was too cute n that happy dance.
Oh my goodness!!! You and your mom dancing at the end...loved it so much! Thank you both for inspiring us and for sharing your relationship and wisdom with us!!
LOL Your mom is so funny because she is just like us! LOL She is still on the "declutter train" and it sounds like she has her husband on it now too. 😊😊 I have been helping my mom declutter her home for about 3 years total and she was very resistant in the beginning but now she is for sure on the decluttering train. When I talked to her the other day, she told me she had gone through some of her new kitchen cabinets and got rid of some items that I couldn't talk her into decluttering before. LOL Your videos with your mom have helped me tremendously! I also watch the Minimal Mom.
Hahah had such a laugh over the "camping"! I love the declutter with your mom series. Thank you for thinking creatively about what to do with the stuff you are decluttering. I get so annoyed at some channels where they just "donate" and you know 90% will wind up in landfill. Giving towels to the local vet office or the matchbooks to the retro store is great!
You and your mom are both so pretty! I just love seeing the two of you working together.🥰 I am so excited to meet your new baby soon. Take care and stay well.🙏🏼
Your mom should become a blogger.... hahaha you guys are so fun to watch. Can you imagine other people who are about your mom's age have a lot of stuff from when they started having a family? lol
Thanks for the video! And thank you for donating old towels to the animal shelter. I've got a bunch of old towels and blankets that must go to our local SPCA.
Hi Shannon’s mom! I know she and I would get along so well.🥰 She’s so cute and so funny.🥰🥰🥰 I’ve said before but I wish I had a daughter like you Shannon. You’re such a blessing.🙏
I just love the two of you together! I have the problem with my “rag” dish towels creeping back in with my good dish towels. I started cutting them in half when they are demoted to rags to make it obvious and to make them a better size for cleaning. Also, I am so glad that your mom takes the time to put all of the items she is getting rid of to a worthy cause like the animal shelters. Thank you for being socially and environmentally responsible!
I enjoy being inspired by your Mom’s progress as I have also been decluttering for 3 years in our family home of 35 years. Most decluttering and minimalist blogs come from a younger generation. (You guys haven’t had your stuff, for near as long!🙄) I relate very much to your Mom’s holding on to things “just in case you need it someday”, But now realizing, it’s time to let it go! Please include more information about where you are donating things(old electronics, bits and pieces. etc.). Getting things actually out of the house or throwing them out is my downfall, other than taking some stuff to thrift stores. I’d would enjoy seeing you actually dispose of things. Thanks for the continued motivation!🙏🏼
Stores usually recycle the things they sell. For example, Best Buy recycles old electronic appliances, computers, blenders, etc. Staples recycles used up pens, pencils, markers, and Nordstrom recycles beauty related stuff. One hot tip I have is if a family has a house fire, they usually need a lot of house stuff til they can get back on their feet, and it feels good to donate to them.
Please keep these videos coming! I love them. Just in case people don't know - some charities take old pairs of spectacles and send them to less developed countries.
I don’t know if your mom could get any cuter!!!??!! 😭🥰 and I love how excited she is for baby! 🙏🏻❤️ always love seeing her in your videos!! And always this was a great video Shannon!❤️❤️❤️
Loved this so much ❤️ you & Mum are the best 👍🏼💝 loved the declutter dance 💃 it really is a relief to pass on items that are not being used lol 🇮🇱❤️🇮🇱💖💝🥰
Love your videos and it's great to hear that you are going to donate to animal shelter! I am your moms age and was wondering if you or your mom may have ideas on what to do with inherited vintage linens from Sweden.? It's probably the last items I need go through. I've put aside items that are special to me but have a ton more. My grown children don't want or have use for the items either. 😕 thank you for your honest and useful videos. Can't wait to see the new baby!!
Ok, they seriously have a lot of the Skinny Pop Popcorn!! Yummy!! You two just gave a great example of just taking a few minutes to make a change, in your home, to declutter👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. But, it went by too fast! 😃
When I designate a washcloth or microfiber cloth as a rag, I take a large black Sharpie and draw a big x from corner to corner on front and back. That way we don’t wash our faces or wash dishes with the same cloth used to clean the toilet or wipe paint.
