I know this is a really busy season for you, but I would absolutely LOVE a continuation of this game in particular from you ❤️ Your style of gameplay and commentary just meshes really well with it for some reason

Exactly that! Like with Tunic, and Viewfinder. You explain very well, and the determination to get to the solution is one of the pro's to watch you, definitely!

what I really like about this game is that it seems like there's straight up 4 or 5 separate languages, the devotees and warriors already have different languages, and the conversation in that panel/screen thing seemed like another language for the person on the right, I say 4 or 5, because that seems like the spacing of the tabs on top of your notebook

many games with 1 conlang or 1 alphabet replacement (per character cypher, all is still phonetic english) exist, but this one makes you translate between 2 different conlangs, and that is daring and very rare. The final puzzle in "Glittermitten Grove" is still the best conlang puzzle, because the game is is mostly a gamejam-clip-show and none of the mini-games is about conlangs, and every mini game roughly gives you +1 tool for your inventory with a weird ASCII-representation within an ASCII-overworld, and then near the end SUDDENLY every inventory-item is 1 word in a conlang puzzle, and you just KNOW the meaning, because you know what the item does/is. "Glittermitten Grove" also lets you import your Mass-effect main character save, and shave the beard of Barrack Obama, if that sells the game for you.

What I also like is that the languages have different syntax and grammatical structures, and you have to figure it out too.

These language puzzle type games are pretty neat. I'd love to see some more of this one. 16:17 My guess for that last symbol is something like "death." It looks kind of like the person symbol lying down.
@iout
@iout 11 месяцев назад
Possible spoilers: I also think it means "death" or "dying." And what's more, I think the two like symbols means "plants." The double characters clearly refer to plural nouns and the only other nouns in the scene would be the tree looking things, which do indeed appear to be dead.

It's interesting how in general games have a way to communicate with players, like when you approach something in a game and it has a "X" above it, it's so obvious to press X on a controller to interact with it, but for someone not familiar with games that isn't obvious.

Having played Heaven's Vault, I pretty much instantly picked up that 'people' words all share the L shape, the double glyphs to form a plural, and the fact that 'key" is 'thing that open'. And the glyph you marked as 'verb' has something in common with other verbs. It's great that there's more depth to the language, even if you don't need it to progress!
@MrLennyShelby
@MrLennyShelby 11 месяцев назад
Ooh, I had my eyes on this game because it looks like Heaven's Vault (which by the way would be totally up your valley ;)). The language decoding and gameplay in general here looks more complex and in-depth however. I'll definitely pick this one up eventually!

14:38 the water worked like water; you cut off the flow to cross, then cut it off again further upstream, but the water trapped between the barriers was stuck until you released the downstream barrier again, letting the trapped water flow out to wherever that canal leads leaving both crossways dry as the incoming flow was still restricted further upstream Alternatively you could have waited for the trapped water to evaporate i suppose, but that might take awhile 🤷

The game looks interesting with some (as of right now) pretty simple puzzles, but one thing that does kind of bug me is how in the checking process you can come up with a translation that leads you to the correct pictorial representation, but is actually way off and the game just gives you an entirely unknown piece of information because of it. The biggest one being "God." The pictures all suggested that the word meant "sun," which would lead you to the correct picture, but the clarification that it means "God" comes from nowhere. What's more is that a lot of cultures did practice sun worship, so it's not even like "sun" is an insufficient translation. Also if Welonz were to play more of this, I'd recommend paying closer attention to the shapes of the characters and what those might imply. The word for "devotee" looks suspiciously like the word for "man" with the word for "sun" beside it. I wonder if that has any implication for the character that looks like an L on its side... Food for thought.

Yeah, as a result, I've been playing the game without the book at all (only when I'm confirming links between glyphs from different scripts, anything that isn't actually confirming the meaning of the word). I'm still sticking to my original interpretations of God, escape and up (sun, run, blessing/miracle) to see if the game does eventually need me to adjust it; that's already happened to me with a bunch of words I was sure about very early on
@ywl2587
@ywl2587 11 месяцев назад
You can easily solve this “problem” by playing with a foreign language. That way you don’t get overcorrected by the book and can partially learn an additional language along the way.

Didn't you "first look" a similar game, with a pixel look, and an amnesiac player character in a cabin by the sea with a girl or something like that? Too bad you didn't continue that, I really liked it. Edit: You mentioned it around 4:40, I was too impatient, name is "7 days to end with you"

I picked up the demo recently after being intrigued by its concept, but I don't really like the notebook thing mainly because I feel like it allows one to bruteforce its central mechanic a little too easily. I think I'd have preferred more time spent to more clearly teach words, and a more accessible way to look back on scenarios that introduce the words like you mentioned - rather than a guessing game that unlocks words permanently and even tidies old sentences up with the understood meaning, taking away possible nuances behind only knowing words that make up a sentence (such as "me me" in this language meaning "us/we"). In addition to the very good point you made about the language following english sentence structure that had slipped my mind (I am curious if they change it up for the other language present), watching this playthrough when I gleefully realized you had played it a bit, I was a little irked remembering that written and spoken language are also completely different, another thing that sorta foils the game's central mechanic again if you look too hard into it. I am hopeful the game will impress me, but man, these little issues bug me!

Loved Heaven's Vault, and after watching you play this title I picked up a copy and played it all the way through. 😅 I think you'll like the further levels - sentence structure and other elements differ, sometimes wildly, in each successive language.
