Back in May, Kendrick Lamar won his long-standing feud with Drake after releasing diss tracks like “Euphoria,” “Meet the Grahams,” and “Not Like Us.” Celebrating his victory, Lamar performed at the Pop Out: Ken & Friends show on Juneteenth, where he rapped “Not Like Us” five times. On Independence Day, he released the music video for “Not Like Us,” which gained over 38 million views on RU-vid.
The nearly six-minute video, directed by Lamar and Dave Free, features imagery aimed at Drake. It includes scenes such as Lamar rapping in front of Compton City Hall and Tommy the Clown, known for krumping. One notable moment depicts Lamar in a dark room repelling a masked figure, referencing Drake's 2020 album cover. Another scene shows Lamar in a mock prison cell doing push-ups, hinting at Drake’s diss track “Push Ups.”
Lamar’s line, “Say Drake, I hear you like ‘em young,” is accompanied by a mock prison cell scene and a split-screen clip mimicking a viral hand gesture linked to Drake. Lamar also references Drake’s diss track “Family Matters” by appearing with his family in a happy setting. The video concludes with Lamar attacking an owl piñata, symbolizing Drake’s record label OVO, and staring at a caged owl, representing their current standings in the rap industry.
