Today we break down another hiphop classic from a duo who truly changed the game: Eric & Rakim's "Paid in Full". I used both Propellerhead's Reason 6 and Native Instruments' Maschine to get this one done. For educational purposes only.

It's so amazing how simple it seems to put that together today. But when you think in terms of them being the 1st to even envision cooking that track of samples up like that, 30ys ago with the limited technology of the day. And it's still considered an official CLASSIC? That's the blue print formula for Hip Hop. Simple, Raw, and Funky!

This was soooooo coool. I used to listen to my cousin spin records back in the 80's. He was working as a dj back then, and I got to meet a bunch of old school hip hop artists. Nice work.

Marley did produced tracks in their album paid in full but he decided to instead put Eric B name on it. Reason is he want to boost eric b's career that time.

I know this is old, but Kool Moe D rhyme within the lines and not just at the end. But, Rakim took it to another whole other level that no one has achieved since.

i remember that part before the break on the original song is from "run's house". dopeness. my cuz calls them drums "the london drums". every song from folks across the pond had those drums back in the day had those drums. milli vanilli, lisa stansfield and soul II soul, suzanne vega. the list goes on.

You should definitely do a Kanye West song, maybe Diamonds from Sierra Leone. I know it's not the same old school beats you are remaking now, but he really revolutionized that soul vocal sampling and pitching so it would be interesting to get your take on it.

I am sooo gonna subscribe to you, ghetto meets geek all the way! Does normalize mean to basically compress it overall vollume is louder with out a lot of dynamic range? Funny "how to" on recreating, reminds me when Phil Collins explained process of in the air tonight on "Classic Albums" DVD...At 7:25 hi hats are much more pronounced, any eq, if not, what did you do?

Since I'm more of a sample-grabber, Maschine's workflow is WAY better than Reason because I can chop up samples in Maschine... with Reason, you have to have Recycle
